You are more likely to win the lottery than click a banner ad

I knew it wasn’t a commonality, but the numbers provided by Solve Media show that it is extremely unlikely that you will click on a banner ad. A few years ago, Dave Morgan (AOL Global Advertising Strategy) wrote about a study that showed who is more likely to click on online ads. Here’s what he had to say: What did we learn? A lot. We learned that most people do not click on ads, and those that do are by no means representative of Web users at large. Ninety-nine percent of Web users do not click on ads on a…

HP TouchPad gets torn down

Well, that was fast, shortly after the first reviews of the TouchPad went up, and a day before the official release it’s already been torn apart. Like most other tablet tear-downs, there’s no real surprises to be found here, just some great shots of the TouchPad’s internals that you normally don’t get to see. Judging by the images over at TechRepublic, the HP TouchPad is a bit easier to disassemble than it’s biggest competitor, the iPad 2. That is to be a bit expected, partially because of the overall design differences and the fact that most WebOS devices leave a…

Thinking of buying an Android tablet? Buyer Beware!

Android tablets, with their tempting features and attractive price tags are increasing in popularity. If you’re tempted to pick one up, there are some things to be aware of. Stay away from no-name tablets and those from budget manufacturers like Coby. I bought a Coby Kyros tablet in January for $200. At first I loved it. It was a great tablet and did everything I wanted and needed it to, flawlessly. Then, last week I went to use it and the battery was drained. I figured I must have accidentally left it on overnight and went to plug it into…

Hackers knock Al-Qaeda offline

A group of British hackers successfully took Al-Qaeda’s website offline yesterday. This is the second attack the terrorist group has been hit with this month. Earlier, the group’s bomb making instructions were replaced with cupcake recipes. It’s believed the attacks are government supported, which raises some interesting questions. How do you feel about the government sponsoring hacking attacks? Is there anyway we can be sure they are only white hat attacks? Cyberwarfare is nothing new. Despite it’s feverent denials the Chinese government has been conducting hacking attacks on government computer networks around the world for a few years now. How…

Acer brings its candy-colored Aspire One netbooks to the US

Sometime in April, when everybody else are busy preparing their Android tablets, Acer broke its silence by announcing not its Acer Iconia Tablet but a new set of Aspire One netbooks. Some of you may have raised your eyebrows (including myself) thinking what came into the minds of the Acer folks to brag about an upcoming product who as we all know by then are about to become extinct. But then, Acer did not mind the signs of the time and in fact just introduced the Acer Aspire One Happy 2 netbooks. And yes, those new Aspire One netbooks are…

Is the stage set for an iPhone Nano?  Analyst says yes

Since the launch of the original iPhone (and perhaps even before then) we’ve been waiting for Apple to offer a sibling.  This strategy has served them well in almost every other product category (iPods and Macs) but has been withheld from its mobile phone segment.  Is now the right time to move this strategy forward? “It’s time for a mid-range iPhone,” analyst Chris Whitmore with Deutsche Bank declared in a note to investors on Monday. He believes Apple will offer a lower-end iPhone priced between $300 and $500 paired with a pre-paid voice offering. With more than 1.5 billion prepaid…

Roku looks to have an updated player coming as the Roku 2 lineup makes an FCC appearance

While the current line of Roku set-top boxes seem to be getting the job done, it does feel like its been a while since we least heard anything new in terms of hardware. And well, enter a recent FCC filing which has spilled the details on the Roku 2 device lineup, which as you can see from the above image will come in the form of the Roku 2 XS. Taking that a step further and we would believe there will also be the Roku 2 XD and Roku 2 HD. Speculation aside though, the FCC filing lists the three…

HP TouchPad: Box of bugs?

Yesterday afternoon, the embargo was lifted (or broken) and reviews of the HP TouchPad that releases this Friday hit the web.  While there are a lot of things to talk about regarding the TouchPad, the one we’ll focus on here is bugs.  Bugs in the software were reported in most reviews and point to ominous signs.  Can a buggy product have any chance of success? “Huge problem. Huge problem that's eerily reminiscent of issues with Motorola's Xoom and BlackBerry's PlayBook, both of which shipped with glitchy software. If a tablet misbehaves as much as the TouchPad does, it doesn't really…

T-Mobile making changes to Even More, Even More Plus plans

T-Mobile is allegedly making some big changes to its current rate plans. According to Tmo News, the Even More and Even More Plus plans will be no more starting at the end of July. T-Mobile is rebranding Even More as "Classic" and replacing Even More Plus with "Value" plans. It seems simple enough, but these new rate plans are downright confusing. These changes will probably anger T-Mobile customers rather than receive their blessing. When Even More plans get rebranded as "Classic", T-Mobile will discontinue equipment installment plans that would occur over four or 20 months. Other than that, it seems…

For a few years, Amazon has had a grocery service for the Seattle area called AmazonFresh. Today the service gets it’s very own mobile app, but not for Android or iOS. No, the first app for AmazonFresh is for Microsoft’s Windows Phone. The app will give users a Metro UI-styled app for ordering all your groceries if you live in the Seattle area.
