Following its study into Netflix usage on individual devices, Nielsen has returned with another report detailing the leading smartphone manufacturers and mobile operating systems in the United States. It's no surprise that Android and iOS are leading the pack, but now we've got numbers to back it up. Android is by far the dominant mobile phone operating system in the U.S., accounting for 39% of the market. Apple's iOS is in second place with 28% market share. The BlackBerry OS is bringing it up the rear with 20%. The list is rounded out by Windows Phone 7, webOS and Symbian.… Full Story » | Written by Jeremy Hill for . | Comment on this Article »
Google has taken steps to speed up website loading times before, but its new method is different. Google calls it Page Speed Service and it's open to any webmaster that wants to give it a try. Google's methods for speeding up the webpages are a bit sketchy though. Google needs webmasters to direct their site's DNS entry to Google. Google will then take information from the webmaster's servers, perform some web magic on them and re-release that information from Google's servers. Google says page loads will be 25-60% faster. Google (as usual) makes the whole process sound easy and safe.… Full Story » | Written by Jeremy Hill for . | Comment on this Article »

Google recently started to push out an update to the Android Market for Android phones running Froyo and higher. Since I couldn't possibly wait my turn in line, I went ahead and downloaded the APK that contained the new market manually. In case you're wondering what all the fuss is about, check out our video detailing the changes in this version of the Android Market. The new Android Market looks nothing like the old one. Google has defined the boundaries between apps, games, movies and books more clearly by color coding each one. Movies are actually a new addition to… Full Story » | Written by Jeremy Hill for . | Comment on this Article »
A few months back it looked like the BBC iPlayer app for the iPad was going to come available in June. And well, needless to say, that did not happen as expected. That being said, the latest report is calling for the app to arrive in the US, Canada and Australia sometime “later this year.” And while that is a bit disappointing, at least the app is still on its way. Of course, even once it arrives that does not mean it will be around for ever. According to The Guardian, the BBC iPlayer iPad app will be launched in… Full Story » | Written by Robert Nelson for . | Comment on this Article »
Downloading Mac OS X Lion hasn't exactly been the most joyful experience for some PayPal users. What was originally intended to be a $30 investment has turned into an investment worth thousands of dollars. Some PayPal users with connected iTunes accounts have been charged multiple times for Lion. At least one person has been charged in excess of $3,000. According to AppleInsider, one PayPal customer was billed for 122 transactions for $31.79 a piece. The grand total came out to be $3,878. This was clearly a mistake, but neither Apple or PayPal are willing to shoulder the blame. The customer… Full Story » | Written by Jeremy Hill for . | Comment on this Article »

Google has kicked off a new campaign and its one that either comes as aggressive or a total goof. To be honest, we are not entirely sure on their intentions, but one thing seems clear—Google is making it easy for you to stage an “email intervention” and get your friends, family or loved ones away from their “outdate email” setup they are currently using. Bottom line here, if you have a friend not using Gmail and you have been trying to get them to make the switch—you now have another option with the recently launched emailintervention.com website. The site comes… Full Story » | Written by Robert Nelson for . | Comment on this Article »

We learned earlier in the week that Verizon was going to be launching the 4G LTE Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 today and well, that launch may not be as smooth as everyone had hoped for. The details are coming by way of a leaked internal Verizon memo which discusses the “delays in the arrival of the 3FF 4G SIM cards.” In other words, these Galaxy Tab tablets require a SIM card for activation and use and while Verizon may have the tablets on hand, it seems the delivery of the SIM cards has been delayed. Anyway, while we would not… Full Story » | Written by Robert Nelson for . | Comment on this Article »
