Samsung Galaxy Note coming to Rogers in February and more

Samsung Galaxy Note coming to Rogers in February

Rogers Canada has just announced that it will be bringing the Samsung Galaxy Note this month. According to the company’s official blog, the Galaxy Note will be joining Rogers’ LTE tablet, the HTC Jetstream as well as the LTE Rocket mobile hotspot. Although details of the terms and conditions for getting the Galaxy Note is not yet known, you can already reserve a unit through the Rogers Reservation System and searching under “Special Orders.”  As a review, the Samsung Galaxy Note gives a huge 5.-3inch HD Super AMOLED touchscreen display, Android 2.3, S Pen stylus pen, 8MP camera and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. It’s a pretty cool smartphone to hold, behold, use and abused. I’ve been using it for several weeks now and so far I have no regret in replacing my Samsung Galaxy S II with it.

Nokia Lumia 800 will launch in Australia across three carriers starting in March

Microsoft and Nokia are making a push to get the Nokia Lumia 800 available in as many markets as possible.  Today, Nokia announced that its Lumia 800 running Windows Phone 7.5 is going to launch in Australia sometime in March.  Instead of being available on one exclusive carrier, the Lumia 800 will be available on three different carriers providing interested consumers the ability to purchase the smartphone on their preferred carrier.

Before getting into the key features of the Lumia 800, you will be able to pick it up from Optus, Telstra, or Vodaphone sometime in March at an undisclosed price.  I imagine each carrier will independently reveal prices for the Lumia 800 and hopefully you can find a price and a carrier that suits your needs.

In terms of specs and features, the Lumia 800 boasts a 8MP rear facing camera, 3.7 inch touch screen display, WP7.5, a 1.4GHz processor, and 16GB of onboard memory.  Lastly, it will be available in three different colors including black, blue, and pink.

BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0.0.7473 could be out on February 17

RIM BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0The long-delayed BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 is said to be right around the corner, with a new rumor points to February 17.

RIM obviously hasn’t put out an official release date for the update, so nothing is really final yet. According to CrackBerry, however, February 17 is a date that keeps popping up in relation to PlayBook OS 2.0. There’s another 28 days in the months when the update could be released, but it’ll probably be later in the month (assuming it makes it out on time).

The update will bring a revamped UI, as well as native email, calendar, and contacts apps alongside an app for buying/renting movies. It could make the PlayBook into what RIM originally promised it would be: a good tablet that will do almost anything other tablets will. I still think it’s a bit too late, but at least RIM hasn’t given up yet.

Samsung Galaxy Note is coming to AT&T on February 19 for $299.99

Samsung Galaxy Note on AT&TEarlier this month we found out that the massive Samsung Galaxy Note will be coming to AT&T, and today we have a release date and price. Samsung’s “phablet” will be arriving on AT&T on February 19 for $299.99 on a two-year contract.

If you don’t want to wait until February 19 for the Galaxy Note, you’ll be able to pre-order it in AT&T stores or online starting February 5. Those pre-orders will arrive by February 17.

No matter when the phone arrives you’ll be getting a huge 5.3-inch smartphone that probably won’t fit comfortably in a pocket. You need two hands to handle the Galaxy Note, but at least you get 4G LTE speeds to go along with it. The price is a bit steep, but it also makes some sense since it’s more of a small tablet with voice functions instead of just a really big smartphone. If you can get past the size, the Galaxy Note looks like a great smartphone, and it will hopefully be great on AT&T’s LTE network.

Samsung Galaxy Note Coming Soon to Bell

Canadian consumers interested in the Samsung Galaxy Note will be pleased to know that the smartphone/tabley hybrid is expected to launch in mid-February, and Bell has already published a coming soon page for the device.

The Galaxy Note will boast LTE connectivity, a dual-core 1.4GHz processor, 5.3 inch touch screen display, 8MP rear facing camera, 2MP front facing camera, operates on Android 2.3, but will be upgraded to Android 4.0.  The Galaxy Note from Bell will essentially be the same as the AT&T model and Korean model.

Unfortunately, pricing and availability information are not yet available, but I imagine Bell will be releasing that information in the next couple of weeks ahead of the rumored mid-February launch.

The Hangout will last 45 minutes and the President will be answering questions submitted on YouTube over the past few weeks. Not to worry, though, some users in the Hangout will still be able to ask questions of the President. President Obama has done virtual town halls before, though The White House has received criticism for preselecting questions. This time, Google will be selecting the most popular questions of the ones submitted to YouTube, which could mean soem strange questions.

SlingPlayer Mobile app will be released for the Kindle Fire on January 31st

If you happen to be sporting a Kindle Fire and find yourself in need of some additional streaming video content — you may want to be on the lookout for the SlingPlayer Mobile app which will be available in the Amazon Appstore as of tomorrow. And worry not, these details are coming from the folks at Sling Media as opposed to the rumor mill. That being said, nothing all that surprising with this release, the app will be priced at $29.99 and DOES NOT require anything additional in terms of monthly fees. Of course, you will need to have a Sling device already set-up in your home in order to use the app though.

The Flaming Lips bring Erykah Badu, Biz Markie and Apple's Siri with their latest "sound construction piece"

Those who happen to be both fans of The Flaming Lips and Siri may want to check out this latest song. The song is called “Now I Understand” and is dubbed as being a “sound construction piece.” That being said, the track features vocals from Siri along with some slightly more well known singers including Erykah Badu and even Biz Markie who is “backwards.” Bottom line here, we are not all that certain this will become the next hottest song on the radio, however we suspect that more than a few of the GadgeTell readers will appreciate it for its geekiness. And just as an FYI, this song will only be available on SoundCloud for one week — in other words — hit the link below and listen now…

HTC Titan II makes an appearance with the FCC, shows support for AT&T LTE

It looks like AT&T may soon have another Windows Phone device coming available. The details are coming by way of a recent FCC filing and a recently leaked AT&T device roadmap. According to the FCC filing, a smartphone bearing the model number of PI86100 has been spotted and is showing support for the AT&T 4G LTE network. And now moving over to the leaked roadmap, that was showing the HTC Titan II smartphone with that same model number. Further details from that roadmap show that the Titan II will be available on March 18th and cost $200 on a two-year contract. Bottom line here, this FCC filing did not reveal all that much new, however it did match up some of those pieces and if nothing else, it is nice to see that an FCC issue will not be responsible for any delays come March.
