Check your mailbox, T-Mobile is giving away gift cards

If you're a T-Mobile customer, you should keep your eyes open for a magenta envelope on your mailbox. T-Mobile has began sending out promotional gift cards that are worth a cool $25. The criteria for getting a gift card isn't clear. I received one recently, and it expires at the end of August 2011. The gift card can be used at T-Mobile retail locations. When I got this card in the mail, I thought it was T-Mobile's way of saying "thanks" for renewing my contract. It turns out contract extensions are not the only reason why T-Mobile is giving away…

Fox will erect a paywall around its popular shows in August

A lot of people (myself included) have cut the cable cord in favor of internet-fueled media consumption. The logic that led to this decision was simple. The way I saw it, I never watched that many television shows on cable anyway. I could just go online and watch them the next day while saving money at the same time. Well, the networks have gotten wise to devious little plans such as this. Fox for example, will soon delay the online releases of some of its shows for customers who don't pay for television service. Starting August 15, Fox will not…

BlackBerry 9860 captured on video

Earlier this morning we saw images of a BlackBerry 9860 with AT&T branding and now we are being given a look at the handset in action. Well, not the same AT&T branded handset, but another BlackBerry 9860. Regardless, the video may not be the longest coming in at just under two minutes, however it is clear and does offer a good look at the overall performance of the phone. The action seems smooth in terms of flipping around the installed apps, can move to portrait and landscape nicely and even appears to have a decent keyboard. Of course, that last…

Kobo changes things up for iOS users, pre-announces upcoming HTML5 web app

We have seen some of the bigger players fall in line with the new iOS App Store rules set forth by Apple. For example, the Kindle app for iOS was recently updated and had the links to the Kindle Store removed. And sadly that sort of means a less than ideal user experience for the users. But in the end its either play by the rules of Apple or try something different. That being said, while Amazon adopted the new rules, another player is choosing a different route. That other player is Kobo, and they have just announced the upcoming…

Surprisingly, Hastings didn’t seem too worried about the outrage that swept the web following the announcement. Hastings wasn’t too worried because he actually expected worse. On the earnings call he said “believe it or not, the noise level was actually less than we expected, given a 60 percent price increase for some subscribers.” He said Netflix knew what was going to happen, and the company tried to be as straightforward as it could with the…
