The day after Steve Jobs announced his historic resignation as Apple CEO, his successor—Tim Cook—sent out an email to all Apple employees. As you would likely expect from a succeeding CEO, Cook praised Jobs and promised the company would remain on the same track and “continue to make the best products in the world.” Cook has been the Chief Operating Officer for quite some time and has worked for Apple for the past 13 years. It is no surprise why Jobs believes that Cook is the right man to navigate Apple to future success, and Cook’s email only reaffirms his… Full Story » | Written by Natesh Sood for . | Comment on this Article »
Even though September 1st is reportedly being set aside as a Windows Phone 7 Mango event by HTC, they may announce a new Android handset in the form of the HTC EVO Design 4G expected to launch on Sprint. We had seen the name/logo leak a few weeks ago, but today, we’re hearing information in terms of its specs and an image render. The HTC EVO Design 4G is something I’d like to call a high-end mid-range Android smartphone. Its specs aren’t drool-worthy, but they are definitely powerful enough to last for two years. While it may not include a… Full Story » | Written by Natesh Sood for . | Comment on this Article »

That’s right, it seems that September might finally be the month where RIM finally adds email and BlackBerry Messenger to the PlayBook. The news come from a Bloomberg report, from the same sources that said RIM’s QNX devices will be Android compatible. The sources claim that RIM will finally bring a native email client and BlackBerry Messenger support sometime next month. That could explain the latest update to the tablet that merely prepared the OS for future updates. The chance to have a native email client on… Full Story » | Written by Shawn Ingram for . | Comment on this Article »

Google has rolled out another update to the Google Docs Android app that launched originally in April 2011. Essentially, you could edit, view, and create Docs on the go and have it sync with your Google account for access across other Internet-enabled devices. One new feature included in today’s update is the ability to take photos with your camera and upload it to the “Web Clipboard,” which then allows you to paste the image into a Google Doc. Docs can even be sent as an attachment through email and other apps. Lastly, the app now has support for 45 additional… Full Story » | Written by Natesh Sood for . | Comment on this Article »
Numerous people were able to get a great deal on an HP TouchPad recently, however it seems that there is one thing they will not be able to do—watch Hulu. Those who have a TouchPad and try to load up the site will be greeted by the now standard blocked access message which simply states that “Hulu is not supported on your platform.” The disappointing part here, Hulu was apparently working just fine on the TouchPad before all of this fire-sale-pricing-hype came to be. It looks like HP killing off the TouchPad garnered enough attention from the web that it… Full Story » | Written by Robert Nelson for . | Comment on this Article »
The upgrade to 4G LTE for the Motorola Xoom 3G was set to begin in September, and now we’re getting word that the upgrade has already begun for a very select pilot test group. In fact, the pilot test group is said to consist of various business and government personnel in the United States. The upgrade for those Xoom owners begins by receiving an email from Motorola, backing up the Xoom, and sending it in a pre-paid box to a Motorola plant. Motorola estimates that you will receive your refreshed Xoom with 4G LTE connectivity within three business days. The… Full Story » | Written by Natesh Sood for . | Comment on this Article »
It looks like owners of the Eee Pad Transformer have another software update ready and waiting. The update will bring the build number up to 8.6.5.9, or more specifically, it will bring the build number up to HTJ85B.US_epad-8.6.5.9-20110816. But perhaps a bit more important than the changing number is what the update actually brings—support for Netflix streaming. Yup, those sporting an Asus Eee Pad Transformer should now be able to use the Netflix app, and a bit nicer—use the Netflix app without having to root your device or do any other trickery. In addition, this update also looks to include… Full Story » | Written by Robert Nelson for . | Comment on this Article »
There are likely plenty of reasons—some of which most likely deal with carrier contracts, lack of available funds and maybe even that some seem scared to upgrade their Android handset in fear of missing that next best thing. That being said, regardless of the reasoning behind, Motorola has taken to Twitter with the following question and tease; “Carrying around an OG Droid? Is it the nostalgia you love or looking for the next big thing?” Are you still carrying one? If so why? But that aside, this does lead us to wonder about the teaser part of this, “the next… Full Story » | Written by Robert Nelson for . | Comment on this Article »
Facebook is reportedly working on a rival to the popular photo editing and sharing application Instagram. The update that will bring photo filters to Facebook is expected to roll out within course of the next few months. According to Facebook engineers speaking to The New York Times, Facebook will have around 12 filters available at launch. Facebook also tried to buy Instagram this year, but was unsuccessful. While Google originally announced that they were going to bring offline Gmail and offline Calendar access to Chrome OS way back at Google I/O—it looks like that support will be arriving sooner rather than later at this point. These most recent details have come by way of the This Week in Google podcast, where in addition to the cast regulars, Google engineer Ido Green was on the show. Anyway, according to Green, offline Gmail and offline Calendar support should arrive before the end of summer. If you’re a Nokia fan, you’re probably aware by now that in the company’s naming of its phones, the lower the number the lower it is on Nokia’s product line. So, Nokia just launched new phones bearing possibly the lowest model number that they have used so far. These two new phones are the Nokia 100 and Nokia 101.
