Google expected to partner with Texas Instruments for Ice Cream Sandwich device

Apparently a promotional image for Texas Instruments and Google Android has already been devised and TI will use the image for events starting in the Fall.  Google will likely be creating an inaugural device for the iconic Android Ice Cream Sandwich platform—the OS version that works on both tablets and smartphones.  For quite some time, it was unknown which manufacturer would get the nod to create the processor chip that would ultimately power the upcoming smartphone/tablet from Google.  Based on the image you see above, it will likely be Texas Instruments who will put forth the OMAP 4460 or the…

Qualcomm makes its Snapdragon chip models easier to understand

Usually when we run down specifications for smartphones, we write something along the lines of "1.2Ghz dual-core Snapdragon processor." There was a time when words such as “Snapdragon” and “dual-core” were serious terms to throw around. But much like a lot of technology dealing with smartphones, these terms are widely used for marketing purposes. Snapdragon is what Qualcomm calls its set of chipsets, but they can be broken down even further into specific models. We usually don't hear about the MSM8x55 Snapdragon chipset because that model number is way too confusing for normal people to digest. That's why Qualcomm is…

Gadgetell reviews the Samsung Galaxy S II (GT-I9100)

For almost a month now, I’ve been using an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S II. Despite owning an iPhone 4 for almost a year now, what prompted me to get the SGS II are some of the reviews I read heralding the said smartphone as one of the best if not the best Android smartphone released to date. Based on my almost a month of using the Samsung Galaxy S II, I couldn’t agree more with those early reviews. The Samsung Galaxy S II is probably the best smartphone that Samsung has produced so far, and yes could be one of…

Huawei launches the Vision smartphone, with 3D carousel UI

Huawei may not be getting much mileage from its smartphone products but this won’t stop them from coming out with new smartphones. In fact, Huawei just launched its latest Android smartphone - the Huawei Vision. When it comes to specs and features, the Huawei Vision seems like your average Android smartphone, well as a matter of fact it is. But one thing that’s worth noting from this phone is its elegant aluminum unibody frame which certainly looks elegant. Feature-wise, the Huawei Vision doesn’t have anything stellar to offer. The phone boasts of Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3.7-inch capacitive screen display,…

The PlayBook's Android App Player is rumored to be delayed

In late July, RIM accidentally released the Android App Player for the BlackBerry PlayBook. It didn't stick around for very long, because RIM pulled it shortly afterwards. RIM asked PlayBook owners to not download the application because it wasn't finished. This was evidenced by user-made videos that pointed out missing features. The official version of the Android App Player was supposed to be released this summer, but that may not happen anymore. "A reliable source" speaking to Engadget says RIM has pushed back the Android App Player until late fall. Here we go again. If the source proves to be…

MotoDev leaks official Motorola Droid Bionic specs, release date still unknown

Much of the specs for the Droid Bionic were known when it was first announced during CES 2011, but now, Motorola’s Developer page officially features the Droid Bionic.  The page actually compares the Droid Bionic to the Droid 3 and the Photon 4G.  Fortunately, it confirms many of the specs we have suspected for quite some time, and hopefully this points to an imminent launch in September, but we still won’t know for sure until Verizon Wireless comes forth with an official announcement. To recap the specs, the Droid Bionic features a 1GHz OMAP4430 dual-core processor, 4.3 inch touch screen…

Sprint's Galaxy S II will be known as the Epic Touch 4G

According to an exclusive report by BGR, Sprint’s version of the Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone will be referred to as the Samsung Epic Touch 4G.  Given the fact that Sprint launched the original Galaxy S smartphone as the Epic 4G, it is no surprise to see the carrier use a similar moniker in the Epic Touch 4G.  Other than the obvious hardware upgrades in terms of processor speed, screen size, and cameras, the Epic Touch 4G is said to abandon the physical slider QWERTY keyboard—hence the word Touch in the name.  Lastly, Sprint is said to launch the Epic…

It looks like Boost Mobile may soon have another Android smartphone in their currently available device lineup. In terms of the handset itself, the FCC filing did not reveal all that much (as usual). That aside though, we do have some details courtesy of Samsung. It looks like the SPH-M930…

Yesterday we learned that the BlackBerry Bold 9900 was expected to arrive with T-Mobile on August 31st.
