Rdio now has an app that works well on both the iPad and iPhone. The music streaming service has updated its iOS app to be universal to support both form factors. The app also adds support for Apple’s new subscription rules, making it more expensive to sign up from the app. The Rdio iPad app seems to take a few cues from the iPad music app. The left of the screen gives you easy access to options like Heavy Rotation, Activity, and Collection, while the right side of the screen holds all the music you can listen to. If you…

More T-Mobile customers use smartphones while other customers leave

T-Mobile didn't exactly have a good first quarter of 2011. It lost a lot of contract customers, but made up a portion of that with prepaid customers. In the second quarter of this year T-Mobile's revenue was $4.6 billion which is only a slight dip from what revenues were in Q2 2010. T-Mobile also lost customers, but those losses are no where near as bad as they were in the first quarter. T-Mobile lost 50,000 customers this quarter. That sounds like a lot, but that's 49,000 less customers than it lost last quarter. Of its total customer base, 29% (10…

Google complains about patents attacking Android

Unless you’re a patent holder it seems that nobody is particularly fond of the patent system in the US, especially not Google. Yestderay, David Drummond, Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of Google posted to the Official Google Blog talking about the company’s issues with patents. The general idea of Drummond’s post is that Apple, Microsoft, and Oracle are teaming up to attack Google’s Android OS with patents. He mentions that Microsoft wants to make it more expensive for manufacturers to license Android than it is to license Windows Phone because of the patent license fees. He also explains…

Instagram reaches new milestone, has snapped 150,000,000 images

If you like the look of vintage photos and are sporting an iPhone you have probably checked out the Instagram at one point or another. And given the stats that the Instagram team have recently offered up, we are assuming that many who checked it out decided to stick around and capture some images. Personally, I love Instagram and find myself shooting more images on my iPhone 4 with that app as compared to the regular camera app. That aside though, the Instagram team has announced they have reached a rather large milestone—150,000,000 (150 million) images. Furthermore, they have been…

Android 2.2 is still very popular, Android 2.3 tries to catch up

According to a recent report that finds how many people are using which version of Android, Froyo is leading the charge with a 55.9% share of the pie.  Next up, we have Android 2.3.3-2.3.4 (Gingerbread) with a 23.7% of the share.  As we move forward, I expect a significant portion of the Android 2.2 crowd to upgrade to Android 2.3 as cell phone manufacturers create workable Gingerbread builds.  In third we have Android 2.1 at 15.2%, so hopefully those smartphones owners either purchase a newer phone running Android 2.3, because I doubt their phone would see a magical leap to…

HTC details the unlocking process for its newest phones

The HTC Sensation 4G and HTC EVO 3D were shipped with locked bootloaders. So what the heck is a bootloader anyway? To the average consumer, a locked bootloader doesn't matter. However, for the user that likes to tinker with their device, locked bootloaders are a massive downer. A bootloader is basically the code that starts before the phone's main operating system has a chance to load. If the bootloader is locked, it becomes very difficult to install custom firmware to a device. HTC wants customers that own its phones to have the freedom to customize their Android smartphones as they…

Google+ becomes fastest growing website in history

According to a new comScore report, Google+ has become the fastest growing website in history by reaching 25 million users in just one month. These are some impressive statistics considering that Facebook and Twitter took three years and 30 months to reach the 25 million mark respectively.
