Last week Google opened up Photovine for everyone with an iOS device. The service combined Instagram with something similar to Color, and it looked fairly promising. Now Google has announced that the service will be cut off just a week after opening to the public. Photovine will join all other products made by the Slide team, save for Prizes.org. The other apps killed off include Pool Party, Disco, and Video Inbox. Almost all of the products were riffs on existing services, though they were all invite-only save for Photovine. On August 29th, Samsung is expected to announce its highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone in the United States. Originally thought to launch on all four major US carriers, yesterday we learned that Verizon Wireless will not launch the Galaxy S II. Today, PocketNow received a press image of the Galaxy S II headed for T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T. Each smartphone looks very similar, except for different branding based on the carrier. A source for the New York Post claims to have knowledge on how much Amazon will charge for its upcoming tablet. Amazon hasn't so much as announced the product, but leaked information has been surfacing for several weeks. According to the source, Amazon's tablet will undercut the cheapest iPad's $499 price by hundred of dollars. Amazon's first tablet is expected to be released in either September or October. About three days ago, there was a rumor pinning the launch date for the LG Enlighten on Verizon as August 25. Needless to say, that date has come and gone with any official statement from Verizon, but it looks like it could launch as soon as August 28th, at least with Wal-Mart. Google has rolled-out another update for the Google+ app on Android. The update can be found (as one would expect) in the Android Market and is version 1.0.6. The Google+ app requires Android 2.1 or later for use and comes as a 5.7M file. We recently saw RIM release the latest update for the BlackBerry PlayBook, which arrived as version 1.0.7.2942. And well, it looks like some images of software version 2.0.0.2992 have recently surfaced online. Sadly though, the images have not arrived with all that much in terms of background information. In light of the recent death of the HP TouchPad, one team named Touchdroid has stepped up to port Android to the TouchPad. These guys brought hope to the masses who spent at least $100 on a TouchPad in the hopes that it will be given new life. The HTC Omega is expected to be officially announced on September 1st when HTC takes the stage to announce its slew of smartphones running the new Windows Phone 7 Mango. On September 15, T-Mobile will be adding a pay-per-use mobile web option to 11.4 million smartphones that don't have data plans. This addition will not be optional to customers and it can't be removed online or from the smartphone. Notfications about this change will be sent to customers either through text message or email starting September 15 as well. It looks like Verizon will be sitting out on the Samsung Galaxy S II announcements that are taking place on Monday. Verizon has confirmed that it will not have a Galaxy S II variant on its network. That leaves the upcoming iPhone 5 (or whatever it will be called) without its most likely competitor on Verizon's network.
