Google Voice gets a new interface

Google’s graphic designers have updates yet another Google service. Google Voice users should start seeing the new layout rolling out to their accounts. The new layout for Google Voice is much like the new designs for Google Calendar and Gmail. Unlike the others, however, this new layout seems permanent. While you can change back to the old layouts in both Google Calendar and Gmail, Google Voice doesn’t have the same option. The functionality is the same, and is actually be easier in some ways. You may not like the new direction Google is taking with the new layouts, but I…

Sony Ericsson said to be working on a 4.7 inch Android 3D smartphone

Sony Ericsson seems to be pushing the touch screen display frontier a little bit further from the comfortable 4.3/4.5 inch up to 4.7 inch with their upcoming unknown Android smartphone.  You may recall that Dell launched the Streak with a 5 inch screen, but in all honesty, that device was marketed more as a tablet than a smartphone.  The 4.7 inch beast being cooked up by Sony Ericsson is said to be a straight up phone and the emphasis on the screen size is a necessary ingredient in order to provide end users with an awesome media experience.  More than…

An ad-free Hulu may be in our futures

If you were to ask someone what is the worst thing about Hulu Plus, they'll probably complain about the ads. Advertisements in the free version are understandable because Hulu has to make money somehow. Ads in Hulu Plus on the other hand are a bit harder to swallow. For $7.99 a month, one would think that money would be used to remove the ads. There still may be a chance that Hulu will offer a subscription that is completely ad-free. The Twitter account for Hulu Support mentioned a few days ago that Hulu is "looking into the option of a…

Google updates Calling from Gmail, includes 38 more languages

Calling from Gmail just became a lot more accessible and widespread, as Google is in the process of rolling out the neat little service within Gmail to an additional 38 languages.  To make the service even more popular and budget-friendly, Google is lowering the cost of making calls in some select markets as well.  It is worth noting that calls taking place in the United States and Canada to phone numbers within those countries are going to remain free at least for the remainder of 2011 and possibly into the future.  In addition, users have the option of buying credit…

New Android malware can record your outgoing calls

Android smartphones are hot targets for malware. Malware creators can embed their malicious code into seemingly normal applications without the victim knowing. Infected applications can be commonly found in third-party app stores, but some manage to slip into the official Android Market. One of the latest Android malware discoveries was found by CA Technologies. This particular malware has the ability to record entire phone conversations. As with any application, the user has to give the app permission to install. If the phone-call-recording malware is present within an app, it will install a configuration file once its permissions have been granted.…

Less than 1.5 million WP7 devices shipped in Q2

In a recent report from Canalys, fewer than 1.5 million WP7 devices shipped in Q2 accounting for a mere 1% of the total global market. Not such strong numbers for the Windows team considering last year, they accounted for 53% of the market. As Windows is still trailing the big boys, they will really need to step their game before they have to forfeit this market as well. Hopefully, the upcoming Mango update might just breathe new life into the WP7 devices and help the company sell more units. However, they will be facing some serious competition with Apple’s new…

Microsoft looks to have changed the logo for Windows Phone Mango

Ah, the ever important logo. And while we have seen a few companies change a product logo in mid-stream, it always seems surprising when it happens. Needless to say, this latest logo change is coming by way of Microsoft and looks like it is being rolled out in conjunction with the Mango software update. In other words, this new logo is something that you should be seeing moving forward. The new logo for Mango appears to have a simpler, slightly more minimalist look which was first (quietly) unveiled during the Fujitsu event for the IS12T which took place last week.…

We had already knew that a Skype app would be available for the iPad, though we are still unsure as to when it is expected to arrive. Yesterday we told you how it looked like Samsung was being blocked from selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia due to a complaint that Apple had filed. And well, despite those reports coming from a reputable source, it looks like there is more to that story. Thankfully the latest comes from a statement that was released by Samsung in which they say that the model Apple filed the complaint about was not the model they were planning to sell in Australia. In other words, while Apple has filed a complaint, it should not be affecting Samsung’s Australian release plans…
