We’re still waiting for AT&T to finally rollout LTE, but we won’t be waiting too much longer. Well, we won’t be waiting much longer for devices, at least. AT&T has announced that it’s first LTE devices will hit stores later this month on August 21. Like Verizon, AT&T’s first LTE devices will be a USB dongle and a mobile hotspot. The USB dongle is called the USBConnect Momentum 4G, while the hotspot will go under the moniker of Mobile Hotspot Elevate 4G. Both devices will be able to use both LTE and HSPA+, just in case you’re not in Atlanta,… Full Story » | Written by Shawn Ingram for . | Comment on this Article »

Scosche Industries wants us to know that their latest portable media speakers called the boomCAN is now available for sale. For just $24.99 you’ll get a nice, portable speaker which is slightly bigger than a film canister. But don’t judge this speaker by its mere size because it can really pump out big sound despite its small footprint, thanks to its 40mm driver. The boomCAN goes well with your smartphones, tablets, netbooks and other machines that can accomodate its 3.5mm headphone jack. For power, the speakers rely on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with up to 7 hours of music playback.… Full Story » | Written by Arnold Zafra for . | Comment on this Article »
When Pottermore launches we’ll finally get a chance to buy Harry Potter books in eBook form, but it seems that might not happen until 2012. For the rest of 2011 there’s a chance that in order to buy Harry Potter eBooks you need to buy a new Sony Reader. According to The Register, Sony is planning on releasing a new Sony Reader this year packed with all of the Harry Potter eBooks. That device will also have a letter from JK Rowling, a subscription to Pottermore, and a special wizarding-themed carrying case. This would be the only way to get… Full Story » | Written by Shawn Ingram for . | Comment on this Article »
Fox has made good on its promise to begin delaying new episodes of its shows by eight days to viewers who aren't subscribed to cable, satellite or Hulu Plus. Attempting to watch the latest episode of Hell's Kitchen on Hulu will result in a 90 second preview video unless you sign in with your Dish Network credentials. Dish Network is the only television provider Fox is working with at the moment. I questioned how long it would take for other content providers to follow AT&T's lead and delay access to its shows as well. It turns out ABC may be… Full Story » | Written by Jeremy Hill for . | Comment on this Article »

RadioShack is only weeks away from removing all T-Mobile products from their retail stores as the giant manufacturer is going to drop the carrier. As a result, RadioShack is looking to move as many cell phones, smartphones, and T-Mobile related products as swiftly as possible. Through August 21st, most of their models will be available for free on a two year contract. The reason I say most is because the myTouch 4G Slide is notably missing from the list (possibly because it is still new), but the HTC Sensation is available for free. Samsung began rolling out the TouchWiz user interface update for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 earlier in the month and it looks like things have since come to a halt. And while that would normally be disappointing news, the update seems to have been stopped due to users complaining of issues after they installed the update. In other words, if you did not update yet, you may be the lucky one. Anyway, the details coming from Samsung include that they have “temporarily halted” the update so they could "assess progress and ensure it’s a positive experience for customers." Furthermore, the update was also… Full Story » | Written by Robert Nelson for . | Comment on this Article »

Google shocked us all yesterday when it announced it was acquiring Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. We certainly didn't see that coming, but we could have just as easily replaced Google with Microsoft. According to GigaOM, Microsoft had eyes for Motorola Mobility as well. Motorola Mobility apparently had other potential buyers other than Microsoft and Google. Microsoft and Google just happened to be the two front runners. Microsoft was interested in purchasing Motorola Mobility to gain ownership of its thousands and patents and patent applications. Microsoft could have done some real damage to Android with those patents, so Google had… Full Story » | Written by Jeremy Hill for . | Comment on this Article »
Based on a recently leaked T-Mobile presentation slide, it looks like the Samsung Hercules and HTC Ruby will be launching in a few months. The slide notes that “both the Hercules and Ruby are scheduled to be the feature devices launching together the 26th of October.” Sounds like a good release, although given the specs that each will be sporting, we only wish the release would come a bit quicker. That being said, the Samsung Hercules (Galaxy S II) features a 4.5 inch Super AMOLED Plus display, dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, front facing camera, 8… Full Story » | Written by Robert Nelson for . | Comment on this Article »

Yesterday, Google announced it was trying to purchase Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. I try "trying" because the deal is not done yet. With acquisitions this massive, the two companies must get the approval of regulatory committees and stockholders. If for any reason the deal falls through, Google will owe Motorola Mobility $2.5 billion. According to Bloomberg, Google and Motorola haven't publicly revealed this detail. The breakup fee is said to be so unusually massive because Google is confident the deal will go through.
