VIA Plus: Think the video transporting features of Apple’s AirPlay but instead of iOS devices, this service will hit Vizio products including the just-announced Android VIA Tablet and VIA Phone. According to the short press release, consumers will be able to start watching content on one device and then pick up on another. How? No idea. The techy details will no doubt flow once Vizio’s CES showing gets underway although the presser does make mention that the devices will share a common user interface as shown in the pic above. The newest Vizio hardware isn’t just limited to the 8-inch tablet or 4-inch phone, though. Just like the rumormill stated a few weeks back, Vizio has at least one upcoming Google TV model. Once again, the details are nonexistent, but the GTV is clearly mentioned in the VIA Plus announcement. CES, here we come! VIZIO Announces VIA Plus, The Connected CE Ecosystem That Delivers A Unified User Experience From the Big Screen to Mobile Devices Irvine, CA—January 3, 2011 — VIZIO, America's #1 LCD HDTV Company*, announced today the VIA Plus ecosystem, the next generation of VIZIO Internet Apps™ that will provide consumers with a connected CE experience unlike any other. The new ecosystem will allow for unified on-demand content and application consumption across multiple consumer electronic devices including VIZIO HDTVs, Blu-ray players, SmartPhones and Tablets. "The promise of a unified consumer experience across multiple screens and devices has been unfulfilled until now," said Matthew McRae, Chief Technology Officer at VIZIO. "With VIA Plus, VIZIO is delivering the first true integrated ecosystem across multiple classes of devices and enabling a simple yet powerful interface for consumers to enjoy their applications, services, and content." VIA Plus expands upon the VIA experience and extends it to new devices creating a world-class connected ecosystem that combines the latest technologies and a unified user experience to provide the very best HD entertainment experience. Consumers will be able to begin content consumption from one device and seamlessly transition the content to another device allowing entertainment to be continuously enjoyed anywhere and anyplace without interruption. VIA Plus HDTVs and Blu-rays will incorporate Google TV and feature a premium Bluetooth QWERTY universal remote with touchpad, dual-band 802.11n built-in wifi and enhanced onscreen navigation including search and web browser. The VIA Plus Phone and Tablet will be based on the Android Platform and feature built-in IR blaster with universal remote control app, HD playback with HDMI output, and access to hundreds of thousands of apps in Android Market. “In the upcoming era of connected digital devices, we believe the companies that stand the best chance of success are those that realize the consumer experience isn’t just about hardware. Rather, it’s the integration of hardware, software, and services toward a specific usage model that will ultimately offer a unique and potentially lasting consumer experience,” said Richard Shim, mobile computing analyst with DisplaySearch. “One of the usage models that we believe can be addressed most readily is the consumption of high-quality digital entertainment.” More Freedom with VIA Plus With VIA Plus devices, consumers will be able to search, organize and access their favorite apps more easily than ever. At its core, the VIA Plus experience is a unified, consistent and intuitive user interface that allows consumers in just a few clicks to quickly group favorite apps by categories, customize the dock with their most frequently accessed apps or switch apps with the multitasking bar. "We know we have tremendous interest and support from our current distribution for new VIA devices, but always are mindful of what the end user wants. With the proliferation of platforms and apps now available to connected devices, navigating and learning different interfaces can be frustrating to end users," said Mr. McRae. "With that in mind, VIA Plus presents a simple, consistent, and elegant interface so users can quickly access the entertainment they seek on devices from a 4" mobile phone to a 65" Theater 3D HDTV." VIZIO will be demonstrating VIA Plus devices in their private CES showcase at the Wynn Hotel from Janurary 6 to 9, 2011. |
Sweet Merciful Suckage! New Dyson DC35 Promises Cleanliness For All Posted: 03 Jan 2011 05:12 AM PST In what only can be described as the Dyson Nano, the DC35 gives you the power of an upright vacuum with the guts of the gun-like DC31. The long tube allows you to suck up spills without bending over (and lord knows I don’t want to do that in my house) and the main tube has a spinning brush along with Dyson’s powerful motor. The best thing? It’s cordless. The vacuum is available now in the UK and will sell at Best Buy for $300. And I said CES would be boring! |

iRobot’s Latest Roomba And Scooba Will Help Keep Your Pad Clean In 2011 And Beyond Posted: 03 Jan 2011 04:12 AM PST The march towards robot domance keeps rolling with iRobot’s latest releases that squeezes even more sucking and scrubbing power out of every round inch of the little devices. Just in time for CES 2011, iRobot has taken the virtual sheet off the vacuuming Roomba 700 series and the tiny floor-washing Scooba 230 series. The vacuuming Roomba 770 and 780 models now feature — what else, really? — more power suction, improved dust filtering and up to 50% longer battery life. The physical buttons got hit by the banhammer and were replaced by a touchpad interface up top by the new Full Bin Indicator Light. The Scooba 230 hits the floor looking a bit different than the traditional iRobot cleaning device. At 3.5-inches tall and only 6.5-inches in diameter, it’s clearly part of the ninja robot squad as it can reach more places while still getting the job done. iRobot says the tiny robot can hold enough cleaning solution for 150 square feet of linoleum, tile, or sealed hardwood floors while killing up to 97% of nasty bacteria. It gets the job done using only clean solution so it’s not slinging dirty mop water all over your kitchen. Both new lines hit this coming Spring with three models from the 700 series hit between $450 and $550. The tiny Scooba hits at a bit more affordable $299. iRobot Expands Popular Home Robot Line with the World's Most Compact Floor Washing Robot and the Next Generation Roomba With iAdapt Technology and Innovative Design, iRobot has Every Room of the House Covered 2011 International CES "These new robots represent our ongoing commitment to developing innovative products that make a difference in people's lives" "These new robots represent our ongoing commitment to developing innovative products that make a difference in people's lives," said Jeff Beck, president of iRobot's Home Robots division. "While Roomba is already the world's best-selling vacuum cleaning robot, we continue to make improvements to ensure it is the best on the market and stays at the head of the pack. With the compact Scooba 230, we focused on reducing size without compromising effectiveness and navigability. The launch of Scooba 230 has effectively made one of people's least favorite household chores, cleaning the bathroom, a whole lot easier." Small but Mighty Scooba 230 is a powerful and compact cleaning machine. At 3.5 inches tall and 6.5 inches in diameter, the robot easily cleans in tight spaces, including under and around furniture and bathroom fixtures. The robot's three-stage cleaning system washes, scrubs and squeegees floors, neutralizing up to 97 percent of common household bacteria*. Scooba 230 holds enough cleaning solution to scrub up to 150 square feet of linoleum, tile or sealed hardwood floors in a single cleaning session. Unlike with a mop and bucket, Scooba only uses clean solution to wash your floors, never dirty water. Scooba 230's water management system includes an active reservoir that keeps the cleaning solution and dirty water separate inside the robot. While the robot is cleaning, the active reservoir shrinks in size as cleaning solution is put down on the floor, freeing up space in the robot to hold the dirty water that is picked up. Scooba doesn't move dirt (or dirty water) around – it gets rid of it. Scooba uses a series of lights and chimes to let you know it has successfully finished cleaning. The bottom plate of the robot snaps on and off without tools, making it fast and easy to rinse the scrubbing brushes and the squeegee after each use. Virtual Wall® technology creates an invisible beam that the robot won't cross, keeping Scooba 230 in the rooms you want to clean and out of the ones you don't. Cliff sensors ensure the robot automatically avoids stairs and drop-offs while cleaning. The World's Best-Selling Vacuum Cleaning Robot Just Got Even Better The award-winning Roomba vacuum cleaning robot has been revolutionizing the way people clean their homes since 2002, and iRobot has sold more than five million home robots worldwide. The sixth-generation iRobot Roomba 700 Series includes the same state-of-the-art features that Roomba users have come to know and introduces new innovations that make the robot more effective and easier to use. The newest Roomba robots include an updated and improved three-part cleaning system along with several new features and upgrades:
Scooba 230 plus Essentials Kit and Roomba 700 Series will be available in spring 2011 at www.irobot.com |
