Section: Communications, Smartphones, Mobile, Web, Google Google has apparently installed a Nexus S ‘smartphone’ with a 42 inch display in a San Carlos California Best Buy. According to the details, the larger than life Nexus S is fully working. And by fully working, this thing reportedly has a working camera, connectivity and is actually being powered by a connected (and regular sized) Nexus S. I guess this is certainly a way for Google to attract some attention to the phone and in turn to Android. With that, hit the ‘via’ link below to check out a video of this thing in action.y Via [TechCrunch] Full Story » | Written by Robert Nelson for Gadgetell. | Comment on this Article » Section: Computers, Laptops, Netbooks Assuming this information is accurate, and we have no reason to believe it is not considering where it is coming from (macles)—Acer is going to be launching the Aspire One 522 netbook with a dual-core 1GHz AMD C-50 Ontario processor. Other specs look to include a 10.1 inch display with a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and ATI Radeon HD 6250 graphics. In addition there will be Windows 7 Starter, 2GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth + EDR and a 6-cell battery that is said to be able to offer up to 6 hours of run time. In terms of the pricing, this is not solid yet, however a product listing in Thailand is showing 12,829 baht, which is about $425 in terms of US dollars. That said, this looks to be a nice netbook, and a nice step in terms of processing power and the improvements it should have on the battery life. Anyway, that seems to be the case with the BenQ R100 tablet which is said to be running Android and set to arrive sometime in “early 2011.” Needless to say, there is nothing official and no mention of what the price may end up being. On the other hand though, there are some specs and those include a 10.1 inch touchscreen display at 1024 x 600, 833MHz Samsung ARM processor, 8GB internal storage, SD card slot, mini-USB, mini-HDMI, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Oh, and a battery that is said to be able to offer up to 12 hours of run time. Lastly, while the R100 is going to be Android, there was nothing given as to which version that would be. Or for that matter, things are not looking good for Google TV. According to the latest internet chatter, Logitech has halted production of their Revue Google TV set-top box until an updated version of the Google TV software arrives. “Logitech has reportedly informed Gigabyte Technology to temporarily suspend shipments of Revue set-top boxes (STBs) for the period from December 2010 to January 2011 waiting for Google to complete updates or to launch a new version of its software for Google TV, according to industry sources.” Of course, the units are still able to be found, at least while there is remaining stock. That said, given the company is not comfortable enough to continue production, I am not sure I would feel comfortable making a purchase. And well, it looks like a 7 inch Streak is coming sooner rather than later. Of course, none of this has been officially announced, but that aside we do have some mounting evidence. Just recently a “Mobile Internet Device” from Dell was spotted having received its Wi-Fi certification and while that is far from proof—it is sporting a model number that fits in with the original 5 inch Streak. The 5 inch Streak had the model number of M01M and this new device is dubbed the M02M. Granted, not proof, but certainly suggestive. Moving on and perhaps more important—leaked images that have come from a commercial for the Dell Streak, a larger Dell Streak 7. Just maybe we will see something announced during CES. Any thoughts on a 7 inch Steak? Lastly, there was one interesting slide, and this could just be a case of nothing, but there was a Netflix app logo in one of the images and as many will likely realize—there is not a Netflix app for Android. Is this a case of the commercial team getting sloppy or a hint at something to come? Maybe Netflix is going to make a splash and launch along with the Dell Streak 7. Or at least that is what we can assume after seeing this latest invitation for an event scheduled to take place during Mobile World Congress. And as many remember, MWC is the big mobile conference which takes place in Europe. The Sony Ericsson event is scheduled for February 13th and promises “new members of the Xperia family.” That said, this is certainly reading into an image, however the person in the above pic does not look like a gamer—in other words, we are thinking this is a no on the PSP phone. In fact, according to an interview between Senior Director of Engineering Mark McDiarmid and Mobilized, T-Mobile will up its HSPA+ network to theoretical speeds of 42Mbps. In addition, new Android smartphones and tablets will be marketed to take advantage of such insane mobile speeds. Unfortunately, no specific 4G smartphones or tablets were mentioned by name in the interview. It’s safe to say 2011 will see its fair share of 4G capable devices from T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless and probably other carriers. It’s probably also safe to say Android users are soon going to have a lot to be excited about.
