Stocking Stuffer Weekend: Joby Gorillatorch Switchback

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 05:00 AM PST

Our 12 Days Of Christmas giveaway series is on overdrive this weekend as we fill our reader's stockings with gifts, gadgets, and merriment. All of the contests this weekend run through Sunday night.

It’s both a compact lantern and a high-performance 5 LED headlamp. How awesome is that? We didn’t even mention that the lumens are adjustable from 5 to 130 and there’s even a red LED for improved night vision. The Joby Gorillatorch Switchback retails for $60, but that doesn’t matter for one of our readers who will win this one. Click through for the rules and instructions.

All you need to do is leave a comment below with how you would use the Switchback. For example:

This to me seems like the perfect automotive emergency tool. I would keep it in the pack that’s currently in my car’s trunk that has an extra set of gloves, hats, handwarmers, and Skittles.

The winner will be chosen randomly and awarded the following prize:

One Joby Gorillatorch Switchback

Official rules:

  • One comment per person and yes, we can check these things
  • Entries must be in by December 19th, 11:59pm PST.
  • The winner will be chosen randomly
  • Use a valid email address as that's how we'll notify the winner
  • US shipping addresses only

Be sure to use your real e-mail address! It will not be shared with anyone, period. It's just for this contest. Keep your eyes out for more giveaways over the next two weeks and don't forget about our big Santa item: a gaming rig valued at nearly $2,300. This contest runs through Christmas Eve!

Stocking Stuffer Weekend: WickedLasers Arctic Laser and Tripod

Posted: 18 Dec 2010 05:09 PM PST

WickedLasers likes you. A lot. They want to give you an Arctic Spyder III Pro Arctic Blue Laser with tripod this weekend and you’re going to love it. I’m serious.

How powerful are these things? This is the Spyder II I tested last year.

How do you win? Good question.

All you need to do is leave a comment below with a promise that you will only use this item for good. For example:

I will only use this item to point at distant stars.

The winner will be chosen randomly and awarded the following prize:

It’s Alive! The Notion Ink Adam Gets A Real Hands On

Posted: 18 Dec 2010 04:53 PM PST

So here you go. You’ve asked for it, they provided: live, hands-on video of the Notion Ink Adam tablet in the flesh. While the video is a little fuzzy, it’s fairly complete and shows the flashy interface and multitasking features.

AnrdoidPolice also interviewed Rohan, the great white hope of tablet nerds everywhere, and he’s reporting all kinds of great info:

Rohan: No, the system was based on first come first serve basis and was mentioned in the email which was sent to all. So if you are given a window to pre-order and you take 4 hours to finalize the shipping, you get the shipping date available after 4 hours. We have spruced up all our partners and hopefully we will be able to “pre-pone” all the shipment to January. This specific update will only be sent by the end of December to our February customers.

And here’s this:

AP: How will Adam users obtain technical support? Repairs? Do you have any authorized repair/service locations outside India/China?
Rohan: Same information is also available in the warranty document. We don't have any repair/service locations in India.

Sounds good to me! We’ve pre-ordered one (I think, apparently the card was declined) so I’ll hold off on more judgement for now.

Stocking Stuffer Weekend: Grid-It Organizer Giveaway

Posted: 18 Dec 2010 09:00 AM PST

Our 12 Days Of Christmas giveaway series is on overdrive this weekend as we fill our reader's stockings with gifts, gadgets, and merriment. All of the contests this weekend run through Sunday night.

Technically, the 3-Ring Binder Grid-It Organizer from Cocoon will not fit into most Christmas stockings. It’s big. If that bothers you, please, don’t feel that you have to enter this giveaway. But for everyone else that can get over this little detail, we would like to pass along this fantastic item. Think of Grid-It organizers as a mobile catch-all. It tightly holds all your little gear, which is supremely more efficient than a junk pocket in your bag or desk. This version fits into 3-ring binders, but don’t view that as a requirement. It works just as well outside of a Trapper Keeper too. Do you need a bit of help in the organizational department? Click through for the giveaway rules and instructions.

All you need to do is leave a comment below with the standard contents of your computer bag. For example:

My computer bag’s crap: USB aircard, MiFi, bluetooth headset, random USB cables, pens, business cards, spare cell phone, a dozen or so flash drives, and a couple of Hot Wheels just in case I get board.

The winner will be chosen randomly and awarded the following prize:

One Cocoon CPG25 3-Ring Binder Grid-It Organizer

Official rules:

  • One comment per person and yes, we can check these things
  • Entries must be in by December 19th, 11:59pm PST.
  • The winner will be chosen randomly
  • Use a valid email address as that's how we'll notify the winner
  • US shipping addresses only

Be sure to use your real e-mail address! It will not be shared with anyone, period. It's just for this contest. Keep your eyes out for more giveaways over the next two weeks and don't forget about our big Santa item: a gaming rig valued at nearly $2,300. This contest runs through Christmas Eve!

The First Of the GarbageTablets (TM) Get Recalled: Staples Pulls Viewsonic GTablets

Posted: 18 Dec 2010 08:41 AM PST

The first of the OEM garbagetablets(TM) are being recalled. Staples is pulling the Viewsonic gTablet for manufacturing defects and is “flexing” the laptop display to make it seem like the devices were never there – a very Stalin-esque way of saying these things were junk.

We received this image from a Staples employee. Sad stuff. The Viewsonic tablets haven’t even been out for very long.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: we’re going to see some of the worst junk in the world hitting the shelves in 2011 as makes scramble to release tablets. Keep your wits about you, people.

To be clear, I’m not suggesting the gTablet is the only upcoming garbage tablet. I suspect we’ll see far more of these from far more providers in the next few months.
