Best Buy Brings The Banhammer Down On Its Own Restocking Fees

Posted: 20 Dec 2010 05:33 AM PST

Yay for consumer-friendly practices! Best Buy no longer has restocking fees meaning the following can be returned without incurring any additional cost: iPhones, computers, tablets, projectors, camcorders, digital cameras, radar detectors, GPS navigation, in-car video systems, DJ equipment and lighting, or Pro-Audio equipment. Only special order items will still carry the fee. This isn’t just a holiday promo, either. The policy is good year-round. Yay!

Toshiba’s Green Copier Produces Erasable Documents

Posted: 20 Dec 2010 03:21 AM PST

Toshiba (its subsidiary Toshiba Tec, to be more precise) is working on a “green” copy machine that produces instantly erasable printouts. The way it works is that documents can be turned blank by heating them with a special device. For the copier, Toshiba uses a special toner, which loses its color when heated (and is offered by Japanese company Pilot).

The printouts can be reused at least five times, which results in a 60% cut in carbon dioxide emissions, when compared with using four sheets of paper. The copier can make 20 to 30 copies a minute and will cost about 20-30% more than conventional copiers with a similar performance, according to a report in The Nikkei (Japan’s biggest business daily).

Toshiba says they will start commercializing the copy machines sometime next fiscal, between October 2011 and March 2012, aiming at businesses and government bodies.

Are you suffering from cold hands while using your computer? You don’t think heated, USB-powered gloves are a dumb idea? Then Thanko’s so-called “Ninja Gloves” [JP] might be the right solution for you.

These are not the first USB gloves the Tokyo-based crap gadget maker has on sale, but maybe the coolest. Just plug them into your computer’s USB port and push the “ON” button to warm your hands.

The Ninja Gloves are available on Thanko’s website or on Geek Stuff 4 U for everybody living outside Japan (price: $32.43).

Stocking Stuffer Weekend: Keybrids!

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 09:45 AM PST

The creator of the Keybrid key/keyring hybrid has donated a few for our use. These keys should be cuttable to fit most locks, and as you can see, it is also a keyring. I really don’t know what else to tell you… other than how you can win one.

All you need to do is leave a comment below wishing everyone a happy holiday, merry Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa, Solstice, or whatever. We’re not picky… but we are jolly.

By the way, these keys only cost like $8, so if you want to be really sure you get one for that special someone, you can always just order one — they only just entered production.

  • Entries must be in by December 19th, 11:59pm PST.

Stocking Stuffer Weekend: Mice Galore

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 09:38 AM PST

We’ve got more doodads to give away than there are days of Christmas, so we’re giving away a bunch of good stuff this weekend. I happen to have a big pile of mice on hand, and there’s no way I can possibly use them. Looking for a new mouse, or perhaps a gift for your PC gaming friend or family member? Look no further.

I’ve got a Razer Lachesis, Razer Naga (“Molten” edition), Razer Tron mouse, Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX, Mionix Naos 3200, and a Kensington Slimblade trackball. I know, technically not a mouse, but hey.

Here’s how to win: just leave a comment saying which mouse you want and what game you’re going to play with it! For example:

I really want that sweet special edition Naga, but I won’t use it for WoW, I’ll be binding Quake macros to it like a boss!

The winners will be chosen randomly and receive the mouse they requested.

Stocking Stuffer Weekend: Sena Folio Leather iPad Cases

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 09:33 AM PST

My first encounter with the Sena Folio was a little embarrassing (for the case), though perhaps that one bit coming off was due to my superhuman strength. At any rate, their cases really are sexy and you should want one. Lucky for you they want to give a few away!

There are four to give away: two black Folios, one red Zipbook, and one black and grey Sarach Dockable.

How to win? Leave a comment below saying which you’d like and how much you love leather! For example:

That Zipbook would be great. And I love leather THIIIIIS much.

The winner will be chosen randomly and sent the case they asked for. How fun!
