Section: Communications, Cellphones, Smartphones, Mobile Dell is appeasing those who ordered the Dell Venue Pro earlier and are expecting to have their phones shipped on Dec. 16. These so called early adopters will receive a free Plantronics Explorer 240 Bluetooth headset because they have to wait some more before they would receive their Dell Venue Pros. This headset will be automatically delivered to the address you’ve specified when your ordered the Dell Venue Pro on or before Dec. 14. Expect to receive your headset in 4 to 6 weeks. So what happens now with the Dell Venue Pro you’ve ordered? According to the Dell Blog, Dell is trying their best to ramp up the production of the Dell Venue Pro. Dell also confirmed the slight delay in shipment times affecting not all but some customers who ordered the handset. They also pointed out that the reported January 6 delivery is not at all true to all early adopters - shipment time varies from one customer to another depending on the date and time that they placed their orders. In fact, Dell is planning to put out more deliveries by Friday and throughout next week. And then in addition to the free Bluetooth Headset, Dell is also offering free overnight shipping upgrade for all orders for the Dell Venue Pro that were placed on December 14. So this means that if you ordered on that day and Dell has your device read for shipment, you’d get it in 24 hours free of charge regardless of whether you choose overnight shipping when you placed your order. So what do you think? Are those freebies enough compensation for exercising your patience? Did you order the Dell Venue Pro, anyway? That was fast. Just a few hours after the Google Nexus S goes on sale both online and on Best Buy’s brick and mortar stores, we now have reports coming in that Google’s second Android phone was already rooted. iFixit has examined the Nexus S’ innards and found out what the phone is made of. And the folks at XDA Developers have rooted the phone. Aren’t we rushing things up a bit, folks? So, what did the folks at iFixit found out about the internals of the Google Nexus S? a 3.7 V, 5.55 watt-hours 1500 mAh Lithium ion battery and the front- and back-facing cameras sharing the same connector on the motherboard are just some of the neat stuffs they’ve found. It looks like there’s nothing interesting to report about the insides of the Nexus S, so we might as well proceed with what the XDA Developers did. XDA Developers have rooted the Nexus S running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, how cool is that? How I wish they’ve worked on making the OS available for currently rooted phones first so that I can try it on my Nexus One already. Anyway, you can find the procedure for rooting your new Nexus S from the XDA Forum link below. Anymore juicy stuff that you can share about the Nexus S? Did you order this latest and greatest Google Android phone, already? I really love to buy one but unfortunately the unlocked version is not available for sale online. No, the LG B will not feature a dual-core processor (at least as far as I can tell). However, it does outshine both the iPhone 4 and Galaxy S in terms of screen brightness. Yes, I did just make that pun. In addition, it is even thinner than the thinnest smartphone in the industry—the iPhone 4. If you take a look at the image above, you’ll notice from left to right the iPhone 4, LG B, and the Samsung Galaxy S. Right away, you can tell that the LG B boasts of a brighter and higher quality screen than the fabled Retina display and the Super AMOLED display. The LG B’s screen is expected to be four inches with a 700 nit brightness rating. If you take a look at the picture below of the iPhone 4 and the LG B, you will notice just how thin the latter device is. For those who want an unobtrusive cell phone that fits comfortably in the hand, the LG B with its ultra-thinness is definitely one to consider. These details and images were provided by one of Phandroid’s “trusted tipsters,” and since they decided to go ahead and publish the information and images, there is a good chance we will see this phone launch in 2011. Hopefully we will even see a prototype on display at CES 2011. No word on what Android version it will launch with, but Gingerbread seems a likely candidate. Now when I say simple, I mean that this thing is bare bones, ladies and gentlemen. The device comes devoid of any of the numerous features we’ve learned to take for granted from our mobile devices. This means the John’s phone lacks text messaging, a phone, internet access or “and endless number of ringtones.” I mean come on, who would want to diversify a device that they use every day of their lives? Sorry, I got a little carried away there… This is the cellphone for your grandmother. Heck, it could also be for your young ones that you want rummaging through the web all day long. We can hold off on that until they’re 12. Anyways, The phone comes unlocked which allows you to use just about any SIM card. Here’s what you get out of the box: - unlocked out of the box
- energy efficient 1200 mAh battery
- ringtone and vibration function
- address book and pen built-in to the device
- speed dial
- earphones included for hands-free operation
It almost makes me wonder if this phone was devised as a gimmick. Really, a notebook that pops out of the back of the device? Although the world’s simplest phone may be a cute and straightforward device, its lack of common features proves that different isn’t always good. John’s Phone is currently available in 5 colors that range roughly from $115 - $156 a pop. Overall smartphone ownership of all ages finds the US to be 55% male. Why are females leading the smartphone charge among young adults? The app will now let you browse your Google Reader folders as well as your friend’s shared items. The app will also allow you to star, share, and comment on stories.
