California court: no ban on violent video games

The Supreme Court on Monday refused the state of California to prevent the sale or rental of violent video games to children. Despite claiming that new video games promote violence and aggressive behavior in youth, the court stated that governments lack the authority to “restrict the ideas to which children may be exposed.” The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Sacramento ruled that the proposed law violated the 1st amendment rights of minors. “No doubt a state possesses legitimate power to protect children from harm,” said Justice Antonin Scalia. “But that does not include a free-floating power to restrict…

Samsung DROID Charge shown running Android 2.3 in video, possible leak imminent

One shortcoming of the recently launched 4G LTE smartphone on Verizon Wireless—the Samsung DROID Charge—is the fact that it’s only running Android 2.2.  As you can probably gather, Samsung does plan on releasing an upgrade to Android 2.3 at some time in the near future, but for now, a video has surfaced from TeamBlackHat and it shows the DROID Charge running Gingerbread.  The first part of the video shows the owner going to the settings page and showing the camera the fact that it is running Android 2.3.3, and after that the user opens up the Netflix app and plays…

The ideal data plan of the future

With all of the gadgets out there requiring data plans and considering the recent expunging of all things unlimited, wouldn’t it be nice to have a solid data plan that consumers could get behind? As of recent, France Telecom's Orange unit has been allowing iPad owners in Austria to share data with their phones. France, the United Kingdom and Spain have also joined the “shared plan” fray with a certain degree of variance. While these plans do differ by country, the basic idea is that users will be able to add an additional device that shares data by forking over…

LulzSec's departure was due to boredom, more document leaks coming

Over the weekend, LulzSec announced it was putting an end to its internet hacks. The group and its six members claimed they always planned to be around for 50 days. Within those 50 days, thousands of personal details from people all over the web were leaked by LulzSec. The group had no real agenda. They were merely doing it "for the lulz." The sudden departure of LulzSec came at a time of intense scrutiny from other hackers who claimed LulzSec was insulting the art true hackers performed. Some of these hackers threatened to expose the identities of LulzSec members. In…

Lodsys accuses more Android developers of patent infringement

Lodsys is not letting up with its constant threat of lawsuits. Lodsys has been targeting developers of both Android and iOS apps for allegedly infringing on a patent it claims to own involving in-app purchases. The latest recipients of Lodsys' wrath are the developers of Star Traders RPG and Age of Conquest. Lodsys' constant nagging of developers seems to be limited to those who are too small to wage a significant legal battle. Apple has stood up to Lodsys in the past and essentially told them to back off. Google has yet to step in on behalf of Android developers.…

The handset is the Samsung SCH-i405, which from what we can tell looks like the Sprint branded Epic 4G. In other words, its an Android handset with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
