Motorola recently announced the Android 3.1 update for European based Xoom users and with that came the long awaited support for the SD card slot. That being said, it looks like Motorola has responded (by way of Twitter) to some of the uproar and blamed some of the delay on Google. “Google is refining the SD card solution for U.S.-based Motorola XOOM devices & we’ll share timing info as soon it's available” Bottom…

HTC ChaCha likely to launch as the HTC Status on AT&T

I definitely didn’t like the name ChaCha when it was announced back in MWC 2011 as the name of the upcoming Facebook phone manufactured by HTC.  According to a recent report by BGR, whom is citing a “trusted source,” the actual launch name of the HTC Facebook phone will be “Status.”  I wonder if the other names for consideration included “Like,” “Poke,” “Tag,” or “Chat.”  All kidding aside, it looks like HTC and AT&T wanted a name for the Facebook phone that people could readily identify the association between the phone and Facebook, and Status does the trick.  Just a…

T-Mobile claims over one million iPhones are currently in use on their network

As much as T-Mobile may want to officially carry the iPhone brand on their network, they are actually doing pretty well without it.  In fact, 9to5mac heard from a T-Mobile spokesperson that T-Mobile carries over a million unlocked iPhones on their network, which is a pretty impressive figure considering one cannot buy an iPhone on T-Mobile.  Most of the one million iPhone users on T-Mobile are iPhone 3G and 3GS owners because to use an unlocked iPhone 4 on T-Mobile, the T-Mobile SIM cards must be altered to fit in the iPhone 4.  T-Mobile is currently in the process of…

HP releases TouchPad commercial staring Manny Pacquaio

After getting top boxer Manny Pacquiao to endorse the HP Veer smartphone, here comes HP again letting Manny endorse what could be its most important product to date - the HP TouchPad. In said 31 seconds spot, boxing hero money gets to demo some of the TouchPad’s key features, namely - multitasking with cards, stacks, calendars, and support for Flash through HP’s webOS3. To be honest, it was a creative idea to hire a successful boxer such as Manny who has done so many “unusual” things despite criticisms hurled against him. HP certainly has some of their own criticism but…

Google adds "pull down to refresh" in mobile Gmail

It looks like Google has rolled out a small, but intuitive new feature for mobile Gmail on iOS—the ability to “pull down to refresh” as opposed to pushing a ‘button’ to refresh your mailbox. That being said, we suspect this is in the process of coming down to all users as we can clearly see the screenshot, however we are currently unable to see it on our own device. Needless to say, those who rely on getting their Gmail by way of the browser as opposed to the mail app should be happy. Via [Google Operating System]

CEA Lineshows: Hands-on with the Toshiba Thrive

Are you ready for another Android Honeycomb tablet? Toshiba seems to think we are. The Thrive is Toshiba’s 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet powered by the Nvidia Tegra 2 CPU. There are a few things that set it apart from the others, however. The Toshiba Thrive is one of the least expensive Honeycomb tablets, coming in at $429 for the 8GB base model, and $479 for the 16GB model. That cost is reflected in the feel of the device. The replaceable back feels rather plasticky and a bit cheap, though that could just be because it’s so strange to have a replaceable…

AT&T announces the LG Thrill 4G will launch sometime this summer

Yesterday, AT&T decided it was appropriate to give a vague time frame for the release of the LG Thrill 4G in the form of a press release.  Personally, I’m not sure if AT&T has worked out the release date and pricing for the Thrill 4G just yet, or if they wanted to start creating some buzz around the device, because most of the Android smartphone spotlight is being centered on the HTC EVO 3D and the Motorola Droid 3.  In any case, AT&T is reminding us that the Thrill 4G is going to launch “this summer” in AT&T retail stores…

As fate would have it, a 21 minute and 45 seconds Nokia presentation showing off its first Windows Phone has been leaked. This isn't your run-of-the-mill leak either. Motorola announces 3.1 Honeycomb update for European Xoom users

If you own the Motorola Xoom and live outside of the United States in Europe, then you are likely to receive the Android 3.1 update that will begin rolling out today.  As with most OTA Software Updates, the Android 3.1 update will take “several weeks” to complete.  The main feature being added through the Android 3.1 update is support for the SD card slot.  Most devices these days comes with SD card slot support out of the box, and it is a bit unconventional for a manufacturer to have to issue a OS upgrade just to bring functionality to the…

CEA Lineshows: Hands-on with the Vizio Tablet

By now you’ve heard that Vizio’s first Android tablet is coming to market very soon. Today at the CEA Lineshows in New York I was able to get a few minutes of time to play with the upcoming tablet. Here’s some thoughts after my brief encounter with the device. The first thing you notice about the Vizio tablet is obviously the size. It feels very much like a slightly larger BlackBerry PlayBook with more plastic and rounded edges. Then again, how many ways can you make a tablet? Using the software on the device is a bit strange as it’s…
