Arnova 7 enters the 7-inch tablet market for $99

When we think of budget tablets, we tend to think of $349 devices such as the Vizio tablet, The Acer Iconia Tab or to a lesser extent, the Impression 10. Archos has shattered our vision of budget tablets by revealing the pricing for the Arnova 7. At only $99, this 7-inch tablet could go over well with those who aren't too much into the latest technology. For the rest of us, the Arnova 7 may not be up to snuff. The 7-inch screen size does make the tablet ideal for one-handed use, but it packs some specifications that we aren't…

Gadgetell review: iPad 2 sleeve showdown: Timbuk2 vs G-Form

You’ve seen these two interesting sleeves and realize that to be truly mobile, you can’t be holding your iPad 2 all the time.  The simple solution?  A nifty sleeve.  Here’s two popular ones, let’s see if they fit the bill. Timbuk2 Envelope Sleeve Sleek, good looking and trusted are three words I use to best describe this sleeve.  Drawing on their years of making messenger bags for the rough and tumble urban bike messenger crowd, the envelope sleeve uses the classic 3 panel construction of their “ballistic fabric.”  Going further into the sleeve you find “high impact foam” and a…

RIM doesn't expect to sell as many BlackBerry PlayBooks as it hoped

The bad news streak continues for RIM. The company's products aren't doing so well in the United States due to stiff competition from the likes of iOS, Android and Windows Phone 7 devices. BlackBerry smartphones are coming off as relics of a bygone era. The BlackBerry PlayBook definitely had the potential to be one of the top selling tablets in the market, but glaring omissions such as a native email application set the PlayBook way back. Due to falling PlayBook sales, RIM has decreased the number of tablets it expects to sell. According to Taiwanese supply chain makers speaking to…

HP's love affair with NFC technology builds up steam

A report last week stated that HP was considering adding NFC chips to its upcoming smartphones and tablets. The industry is betting on NFC to be widely used in conducting monetary transactions in stores around the world. Even though Zoosh has the potential to seriously disrupt the demand for NFC chips, HP is moving forward with its plans. The company is currently looking for a RFID/NFC design engineer. The responsibilities for the job include designing NFC components for HP smartphones and tablets. It could be a little while before we see the first HP devices packing NFC technology. HP has…

Smartcase showdown: Apple vs. Mophie

This review should have been a slam dunk.  I expected to absolutely hate one of these.  The result?  I can’t stop using one of them for a rather simple and unexpected reason.  Let’s take a look. Apple Smart Cover There’s not too much to be said here that our Kirk Hiner hasn’t said. I chose not to give Apple another $39 when I bought my iPad 2.  3 days later, I am busting down Best Buys door to get one.  You’ve seen the demo, it “magically” connects to the iPad via magnets allowing the screen to wake/sleep when the cover…

Vizio confirms release window and pricing for its upcoming tablet

News about Vizio's tablet has been leaking out a lot lately. We've seen a picture of its price tag in a Walmart store in addition to a leaked Walmart release schedule that gave the tablet a release window of "week 26." All that information has been confirmed by Vizio. The Vizio tablet will run on Android 2.3 and will be on sale in July for $349. It is capable of running Honeycomb, but Vizio is holding out on updating the tablet until it feels Honeycomb is stable enough. Vizio has also seriously customized Android 2.3 with its own user interface.…

iPhone Blood Pressure Monitor goes on sale in US

One of the most anticipated accessories, by me anyway, is the Withings Blood Pressure Monitor which is now shipping in the US for $129.  Earlier, we were under the impression that this was the Euro price, but here we are with a fine USD marking.  So what is this thing? The blood pressure cuff plugs into your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and along with the free app, allows users to monitor and keep track of readings.  Additionally, the company provides the data via a unique URL that is protected and can be shared (like, with your doctor).  The app…
