Posted: 12 Feb 2011 11:21 AM PST There is no better feeling on earth than placing a Mentos in a bottle of Diet Coke. The spray, the surge, the feeling of power: it’s very heaven. But what if you want to make special geysers of foam shaped like mushroom clouds? What then? Well you go and get this $25 Mentos/Coke kit from EepyBird. The kit includes Mentos, a set of PVC nozzles, and lab glasses. Coke is not included, but you should be able to supply that yourself. The nozzles are cut in different shapes for extra fun including “thin,” “crossed,” and “tiny pinprick hole that will probably make the Coke hurt as it sprays out at your face.” Fun for the whole family, to be sure. The kit is available now from Make. |
Exclusive: Images And Video Of Rightware’s Stereoscopic 3D Android Interface Posted: 12 Feb 2011 11:04 AM PST Rightware, the same company that does Audi’s MMI interface, will be showing their new Stereoscopic 3D interface for Android’s home screen next week at MWC. The 3D home screen is based on the Rightware Kanzi UI, a platform for displaying complex 3D UIs on mobile devices. Also, developing the home screens can be done on Rightware’s Kanzi Studio design tool with a PC. Tero Sarkkinen, CEO of Rightware, said they have, “The world's first fully functioning stereoscopic 3D home screen for Android…it’s now up and running, and will be show-cased by Rightware at Mobile World Congress." Luckily we were able get ahold of pictures and video first. |
Powertrekk Fuel Cell Charges USB Powered Devices Posted: 12 Feb 2011 10:40 AM PST We’ve been hearing about using fuel cells as batteries since fuel cells existed. So far, nothing too interesting has come out. But if you’re interested in getting in on the tech early, check out the Powertrekk. The Powertrekk is a fuel cell and rechargeable battery in one. Similar to those portable battery chargers, the Powertrekk can charge your devices over USB from energy stored either in the fuel cell or the battery. The battery also acts a buffer between the fuel cell and your device. Check out the video to see how it works. It looks a bit messy, but hopefully they water, battery and hydrogen don’t turn into something explosive. Right now, we aren’t seeing a price or release date. [via technabob] |
AT&T Puts iPad Accessories On Clearance, Gives More Insight Into iPad 2 Posted: 12 Feb 2011 09:15 AM PST We recently learned that AT&T will be offering all their Apple iPad accessories for 50% off starting February 13th. Normally, AT&T doesn’t clearance items unless a new device is closely on the way. The date of the clearance ties very nicely to the to the rumored announcement, due to take place by the end of this month. What’s of interest about the clearance is that it shows there will be a physical change to the iPad. iPad cases will going on clearance; so either we are getting those rumored cameras or a different form factor entirely. We just hope Apple doesn’t do they same thing they did with the 3G-3GS upgrade and give us the same thing, only faster. [via bgr] |
Wenger Nomad LED Compass Watch Hands-On Posted: 12 Feb 2011 07:43 AM PST Wenger showed me this pretty interesting gadget style watch that has an analog display, and a "stealth" LED display in the dial. It is their Nomad LED Compass watch, and has some interesting appeal. The basic watch without using the function is easy to read thanks to the large Arabic numerals and hands - both lume covered. The text around the dial might look a bit excessive, but makes it easy to understand what the watch does. In addition to the time, it has a basic calendar display and a compass. |
10 Reasons To Buy A Tablet (And 5 Reasons Not To) Posted: 12 Feb 2011 07:21 AM PST You’ve held out for months, waiting and watching the market for some sign of a tablet that you think you’d like. But maybe you’re asking the wrong question. Instead of “Which tablet should I buy?” maybe you should be asking why you need a tablet in the first place? We’ve written out a brief guide to deciding whether you need a tablet at all. As for a recommendation, the two devices we can unequivocally recommend right now are the iPad and, if you’re into Android, the Galaxy Tab (although there is some talk of an upgrade coming soon). However, don’t buy right now. The iPad 2 is on its way and the Xoom, Playbook, and TouchPad, are coming soon as well. So before you break out the credit card, let’s talk about a few reasons to buy a tablet… and a few reasons not to. |
Posted: 12 Feb 2011 06:17 AM PST It would appear that Crysis 2 for the PC has leaked in some capacity. A quick look at some of the more popular sites when it comes to this kind of thing suggests that many thousands of people have no problem downloading Crytek’s unfinished game, which is due for release next month. Well, was due for release next month—who knows how this leak will affect development? You’ll find no links here, of course, but the fact that such a big game leaked weeks before its intended release date is certainly worth mentioning as a news item. According to various threads I’ve been reading, the game is absolutely playable and includes the CryEngine 3 editor. Needless to say, this isn’t probably what the folks at Crytek (or EA) had in mind for their weekend. It’s not rare for games to leak a few days before their official release date (and these are usually plain ol’ retail copies), but well over a month? There’s trouble afoot, that’s for sure. |
Samsung Galaxy S 2 Gets Leaked Ahead Of MWC Posted: 12 Feb 2011 06:05 AM PST Look what just got leaked ahead of the announcement. That’s right, it’s the Samsung Galaxy S 2. The guys over at Moveplayer noticed that Korean news site Paran dropped the ball on the embargo and threw up the info. From what was released, the Galaxy S 2 will have Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 4.3-inch display, 1GHz dual-core processor, HSPA+, Bluetooth 3.0, and 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi. Also, the new handset is 8.49mm thick at a weight of 116g. Keep in mind this is extremely thin. [via samsunghub, engadget] |
