Netflix appears to still be making forward progress in terms of Android. Of course, we have long known they were working on something, but the when was always the big question. According to Greg Peters from the Netflix product development team;
“We are eager to launch on these devices and are disappointed that we haven't been able to do so already.”
I guess we can take that as further confirmation that something is being worked on and something is coming. The issue behind the slow release seems to be DRM though.
“The hurdle has been the lack of a generic and complete platform security and content protection mechanism available for Android.”
That said, Netflix is coming and will arrive “early next year.” That is the good, but that comes with a little bit that may be bad—the launch will only be for “select Android devices.”
Bottom line, Netflix may be coming to Android, but it may not be coming to the Android device that you are carrying.

Another one of the many Black Friday offers looks to be with Best Buy and the Samsung Galaxy Tab. And while it would have been nice to see the Wi-Fi only Galaxy Tab come available in time for the holidays, we do have word of a $50 savings on select carrier models. Best Buy will be offering the Sprint and Verizon branded Galaxy Tab at $50 off, which means you can shell out $549.99 as opposed to $599.99. And remember, the Sprint and Verizon branded Galaxy Tab are selling for more as compared to T-Mobile because they are unsubsidized and that means no contracts and long term commitments.

Those Archos branded ‘Internet Tablets’ are proving very hard to come by here in the US. We had seen a few pre-order listings and for a brief time we had seen them come available by way of the Archos website and Amazon. That said, out of the group the only one that remains available is the 2.8 inch Archos 28. The Archos 32, 43, 70 and 101 remain unavailable. Of course, that may be changing soon, at least for the larger two of the group—the Archos 70 and 101. Then again, given these dates have already passed we can take this with a grain of salt. Sadly, though, this information is coming by way of a press release, which should be accurate. Needless to say;
“The Archos Android tablets are competitively priced. The Archos 101 sells for just $299.99 for 8GB and 349.99 for 16GB, while the Archos 70 sells for only $274.99 and $349.99 for 8GB and 250GB, respectively. The Archos 70 (8GB model) is available now through the official Archos store. The Archos 101 will be available the week of 11/8/10.”
So, as a quick trip to the Archos Store website will tell you, the Archos 70 is not available, nor is the Archos 101. But then again, the opening line of that same press release opens as follows;
“Archos 70 Internet Tablet & Archos 101 Android Tablet Available to Purchase on 11/18/10”
Given that we remain hopeful this will still happen. In the meantime, I would love to get my hands on the Archos 43.
