The newest Android tablet to hit the market is the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which has already launched on T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless. The latter carrier was kind enough to send over a review unit of the Galaxy Tab and in the brief time I have had to check it out, I’m pretty satisfied with the device. Android 2.2 works well on the Galaxy Tab and the rear facing camera takes great pictures, while the front facing camera works as billed for video conferencing. Typing on the device is very fast using my thumbs on the portrait view, but typing on the device horizontally is kind of awkward. The screen is, of course, seven inches, but holding it horizontally makes it hard to type with both hands, something that can be done rather easily on the iPad. While I wouldn’t say this is a deal breaker, having a device with a seven inch screen cost the same as a tablet with a ten inch screen is a little bit perplexing.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Tab seems like a nice competitor to the iPad, and I will get into more details in my in-depth review coming soon. For now, feel free to browse through some images I took of the Samsung Galaxy Tab on Verizon Wireless.
