Section: Communications, Mobile, Computers, Mobile Computers, Wireless It looks like another Android tablet maybe hitting the US market soon. This Android 2.1 tablet was earlier announced but its maker, Creative a couple of months ago. But back then, there was not a mention of its release date. And although, there’s still no definite yet on when it will be arriving on the US market, the fact that it has just hit the FCC says that this might be happening sooner than we can think of. Anyway, based on its FCC filings, the Creative Ziio 7 Tablet sports a 7-inch resistive touch screen with 480x800 resolution, 16GB of storage, front-facing VGA camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and microSD support. This Android 2.1 table packs in Creative’s ZiiLABS HD application processor which is not yet proven as to how it can actually perform on a 7-inch tablet device. In addition, the Ziio 7 Tablet will be available in 8GB or 16GB storage capacity with possible price tags of $315 and $350, respectively. And like other devices that were released right after they were reported to have reached the FCC, expect the Creative Ziio 7 Tablet from your favorite retailers, pretty soon. Verizon Wireless is stepping up to offer a full 24 days of discounts to customers with it’s “24 Days of Seasonal Surprises” promotion. The promotion is simple, everyday you visit Verizon’s site, and connect either Twitter or Facebook to the site. Then you have to send out a promotional message that you can’t change to “unwrap” the deal. Thankfully, you can always delete the message afterwards if you don’t want to advertise the deals for Verizon. Today the deal is 15% off any already reduced price BlackBerry device. Each day the deal will change, but will be the same for everyone. Hopefully the next few deals will be a bit more exciting. Along with the deals is the “Ultimate Digital Giveaway” where Verizon will be giving out a $10,000 package for one winner. Not a bad way to celebrate the holidays. The Eee Note should be out in the US by the first quarter of 2011, with other countries between then and late this year. The Asus Eee Note is an 8-inch eBook reader with a stylus for it’s touchscreen, perfect for note-taking. What sets it apart from other readers is the fact that it uses a monochrome LCD screen rather than e-ink like most other devices. With the LCD screen comes a hit on battery life. The Eee Note will run for about 13.5 hours of continuous use on a single charge. The Eee Reader lasts for about two weeks. That screen also comes a lower price than Asustek’s other eBook reader, the Eee Reader. Both are available in Taiwan now, or will be soon. The Eee Reader sells for roughly US$391, while the Eee Note comes in at about US$228. With the US launch coming early next year, we can expect to see the Eee Note, and likely the Eee Reader at CES in January. Hopefully by that time Asus will have more exact US launch dates and prices. And one of those fun games just so happens to be Angry Birds and sadly those sporting a Windows Phone 7 device are going to have to wait a bit longer before getting to play. The question was posed; “to confirm, no Angry Birds for WP7 this calendar year, right?” And the reply was simple enough; “never say never, but it’s highly unlikely” With that, look for Angry Birds to arrive in the Windows Marketplace sometime in the next calendar year, otherwise known as 2011. It looks like a third party Twitter app has beaten the official Twitter app in the race to offer push notifications. The third party app is called MahTweets and they have announced that push notifications will soon be possible. The support will include mentions and direct messages however the catch is that the app is not yet available in the Markeplace. That said, it has been submitted and it waiting approval, sadly though, it has already been submitted and rejected two times in the past. Otherwise, the MahTweets app seems like a worthy competitor with other features including read only support for Yammer and Tumblr as well as TwitPic uploads, Geotagging, themes and support for multiple accounts. The one drawback comes in with lists, which are not yet supported. But with that, the MahTweets account is available for free so given that, it seems worthy of a download just to see if it measures up for your needs. The news is coming as a result of a question looking for more levels for Android users. “the next thing for Android is the seasonal update…” But with that there is nothing in terms of when that will be arriving. Still, it is nice to see that Android users will soon be playing the seasonal variety just like those sporting an iOS device.
