While you’ll still be charged the full $199 at AT&T or BestBuy, if you head to LetsTalk.com you’ll be treated to a BlackBerry Torch for just $49. The BlackBerry Torch is candybar slider phone that features a slide down QWERTY keyboard. The phone combines the ease of touchscreen navigation with the tactile keyboard BlackBerry users have come to love.
The Torch was launched in August to lackluster fanfare. Despite heavy advertising from AT&T the Torch hasn’t sold like hotcakes. Even a four out of five star rating on AT&T’s website hasn’t helped.
Who cares how it sold? If the Torch is your thing, you can now save $150.

This past week, Apple’s App store reached 300,000 apps according to Mobclix. Right now, there are 206,828 paid apps and 94,147 free apps available to iOS devices, far and away the most apps for any mobile platform. Back in September, Android was said to have 80,000 apps.
Apple’s number includes some 50,468 books, making it the largest category of apps. Games follows closely second with 50,100. The Mobclix site allows you to drill down into the apps to find free vs paid distribution, app type broken down further in genres. The site is well done.
One interesting item: business, news and social networking are the only categories in which there are more free apps than paid. All the other categories show more paid apps. What do you make of that?
