Section: Communications, Cellphones, Cellular Providers, Smartphones, Mobile Just like that we now have more details on an upcoming Palm device. This latest bit comes by way of the FCC and includes a nice little device label for the P102UEU. And yes, that EUE does indicate a European spec’d handset, of course that is not to say we could not see some small changes and also have a US-capable device. With that, and coming courtesy of the devoted PreCentral forum members—there are details. The word is that the P102UEU will feature a Pre-like design and come sporting a 1GHz processor. In addition, the battery is said to be 1150 mAh, which for those keeping track is the same as the current Pre and Pixi. Another similarity with the P102UEU includes the back battery cover, it is said to be the same as that found on the current Pre and Pre Plus, which indicated that the device will be Touchstone compatible but also retain a very similar form factor. With that, the FCC listing that the label came from had a 180 day confidentiality request, which began as of September 8th. In other words, it does not look like a release in time for CES. But on the positive side, maybe a CES unveiling with a March release. Think you have what it takes to join the team? Read on and find out what we are looking for and then how to apply. We are looking for a weekday and a weekend blogger, or someone willing to take on both. A little more specifically; The first being someone who can contribute often, and by often I mean on a daily, or at least an almost daily basis to include weekdays and weekends. I would say this person would average at least 10 posts per week. The second being someone who wants to write primarily on the weekends. Of course, anyone who fills this role will be welcomed to post during the week. But the main focus is for weekend coverage. This person would most likely average about 6-8 posts per weekend. Assuming you are ok with those roles and posting expectations—we really need someone who loves tech/gadgets. You know the type—the person who loves tech so much that other people get tired of hearing them talk because that is all they talk about. Or the person who sits at the dinner table with a laptop, tablet or smartphone because they cannot part with the Internet for even a few minutes. In short, we are looking for the tech obsessed. If you are interested, here is what you need to do to apply. Send an email to robert (at) gadgetell (dot) com and include; - For new bloggers, two sample posts that would fit on Gadgetell. Don't worry they will not be used, but we want to see what you are capable of.
- For experienced bloggers, show us some links to other writing that you have done. These should be relevant to tech/gadgets and should also be current.

As the ongoing lawsuit between Google and Oracle continues to rage on, Motorola has decided to send their busy little lawyers off to the FCC with a stack of patent complaints against Apple. As discussed in a press release early today, Motorola has sued Apple for patent infringements on many of their products. This includes technology in MobileMe and the App Store. In essence Motorola has claimed rights to wireless communication technologies (3G), GPRS, 802.11 and antenna design, wireless email, proximity sensing, software application management, location-based services and multi-device synchronization. Whether or not Motorola has a valid case against Apple is yet to be determined. You can read the full press release below. Read [PRNewsWire via All Things D] LIBERTYVILLE, Ill., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/—Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that its subsidiary, Motorola Mobility, Inc., has filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) alleging that Apple’s iPhone, iPad, iTouch and certain Mac computers infringe Motorola patents. Motorola Mobility also filed patent infringement complaints against Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) in the Northern District of Illinois and the Southern District of Florida. Overall, Motorola Mobility’s three complaints include 18 patents, which relate to early-stage innovations developed by Motorola in key technology areas found on many of Apple’s core products and associated services, including MobileMe and the App Store. The Motorola patents include wireless communication technologies, such as WCDMA (3G), GPRS, 802.11 and antenna design, and key smartphone technologies including wireless email, proximity sensing, software application management, location-based services and multi-device synchronization. Motorola Mobility has requested that the ITC commence an investigation into Apple’s use of Motorola’s patents and, among other things, issue an Exclusion Order barring Apple’s importation of infringing products, prohibiting further sales of infringing products that have already been imported, and halting the marketing, advertising, demonstration and warehousing of inventory for distribution and use of such imported products in the United States. In the District Court actions, Motorola Mobility has requested that Apple cease using Motorola’s patented technology and provide compensation for Apple’s past infringement. Kirk Dailey, corporate vice president of intellectual property at Motorola Mobility, said, “Motorola has innovated and patented throughout every cycle of the telecommunications industry evolution, from Motorola’s invention of the cell phone to its development of premier smartphone products. We have extensively licensed our industry-leading intellectual property portfolio, consisting of tens of thousands of patents in the U.S. and worldwide. After Apple’s late entry into the telecommunications market, we engaged in lengthy negotiations, but Apple has refused to take a license. We had no choice but to file these complaints to halt Apple’s continued infringement. Motorola will continue to take all necessary steps to protect its R&D and intellectual property, which are critical to the company’s business.” About Motorola Motorola is known around the world for innovation in communications and is focused on advancing the way the world connects. From broadband communications infrastructure, enterprise mobility and public safety solutions to mobile and wireline digital communication devices that provide compelling experiences, Motorola is leading the next wave of innovations that enable people, enterprises and governments to be more connected and more mobile. Motorola (NYSE: MOT) had sales of US $22 billion in 2009. For more information, please visit www.motorola.com. Being the first Google TV box, it needs to to at least be more interesting that something like the Boxee Box and the Apple TV, and it’s looking like the Revue might be up to that task. The Logitech Revue, as you’d expect, comes off as a little complicated. It’s a long black box that sits between your cable-provided set-top box and your HDTV, that’s controlled with a keyboard complete with a trackpad and extra media control buttons. For a techie, this seems fine, and will surely be great in practice. In addition to the keyboard, the Revue let’s you control the experience through an iOS device or Android smartphone, which makes the experience even better. The IR blaster for your cable-box means the apps or Logitech Keyboard Controller can control the entire experience. The Revue box complete with Keyboard COntroller will ship for $299, with the Mini Controller selling for $129.99, and the TV Cam going for $149.99. The Mini Controller is a 6-inch wide controller that’s easier to lose and replaced the trackpad with a D-pad. The TV Cam allows you to do HD video calling through your TV to other people’s TVs or computers using Logitech Vid. The whole experience with apps like Netflix and Pandora sounds interesting. The implications of Google TV are exciting, if you want to keep your cable or you really enjoy reading the web on your TV. Being able to access everything without switching between inputs is great, but I think I’d rather just get a Boxee Box or Apple TV and just cancel cable. Or just keep the cable and get a Google TV for all the web features and the ability to watch sports.
