Prepare to jailbreak your iOS devices, Geohot returns with surprise Limera1n release

Geohot has returned to the iOS jailbreaking scene with a rather surprise release of limera1n, which is said to be able to jailbreak your iOS 4.0 or 4.1 device. According to the notes on the limera1n website, this is “6 months in the making” and will work on the iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G. Otherwise the good news is that this is an untethered jailbreak. As for support, as of now limera1n is only available for Windows, however a Mac version was promised as “coming soon.”

I have yet to use this personally, though I can say that the jailbreak tools coming from Geohot have been more than capable in the past. In other words, if you want to jailbreak, then limera1n seems like a good way to go. A few items to mention before you begin—sync your device and force a backup before you begin—just in case. That and, the beta iOS releases are not supported and neither is the iPod touch 2G or iPhone 3G. But perhaps most important, those looking to also unlock their handset using ultrasn0w should not use limera1n.

Samsung Focus Windows Phone 7 smartphone coming to AT&T November 8th

It looks like AT&T will be launching the Windows Phone 7 running Samsung Focus on November 8th. Well, that is assuming that nothing changes in the meantime. The details came by way of some advertising images found on the Microsoft website. And for those looking at the Samsung Focus in the above image thinking that it looks familiar, that is the handset that was once known as the Samsung Cetus. Otherwise, remember that tomorrow is October 11th, which means the official unveiling for Windows Phone 7.

Rumor: Samsung Galaxy Tab will cost $399 on-contract with T-Mobile

Rumor: Samsung Galaxy Tab will cost $399 on-contract with T-Mobile

Assuming that this leaked slide is the real deal, then it looks like the Samsung Galaxy tab will come available with T-Mobile for $399. Of course, that seems to fit the pattern considering we have already seen rumored pricing for the Galaxy Tab with Sprint, which was also $399. In addition, the T-Mobile slide notes that the $399 price tag is AFTER a $50 mail in rebate and the contract free price is $649.99. Personally I am not sure what I expected, but am thinking this is about $100 more than I would like to pay.

Android Market update brings Froyo Automatic Updating To Eclair devices

Android Market update brings Froyo Automatic Updating To Eclair devices

It looks like those sporting an Android 2.1 running device will soon be getting (or have already) an update to the Android Market. This update is sneaky and comes without any effort on your part, thankfully though it brings a nice feature—the ability to automatically update app. The version of the Market is ‘version 2007’ which can be verified by going to Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications and then scrolling down to and selecting Market. Once there you should see the version number towards the top. Or perhaps a little easier is to simply launch the Market and choose an app, any app should do and then look for the “Allow automatic updating” along with the check box. So far there have been reports of this happening on devices to include the Milestone, Vibrant, Moment, myTouch 3G, myTouch Slide and Fascinate. In short, lots of handsets seem to be getting the update. And I can add the Droid Eris (Verizon) to that list.

Sony Ericsson LiveView hits the FCC, are we excited or not?

Section: Communications, Accessories, Cellphones, Smartphones, Mobile, Gadgets / Other, Peripherals, Displays/Projectors

Sony Ericsson LiveView Hits the FCC

It looks like Sony Ericsson is going to reach its target of a 4th quarter release for its LiveView product. The device which we deemed as a a mashup between the new iPod Nano and the Palm Folio has just reached the FCC for approval. We all know what follows after a new device reach the FCC, right? So expect the Sony Ericsson to hit retail outlets soon.

In case you forgot what this little device can do, or if you failed to read about Sony Ericsson’s announcement last month, allow me to remind you then. The Sony Ericsson LiveView is a small device that connects to Android smartphones via Bluetooth. Once connected, it displays all sorts of information and updates from supported apps and services - Facebook, Twitter, RSS feeds, calendar, missed calls and more. LiveView will also let you control music. And when used with SportyPal Pro app, the device will display various data from your Android phone.

It’s a pretty cool new device. Could be useful, although not really groundbreaking. But then, if you’re a Sony Ericsson Android phone user and you want something cool to pair up with your phone, the LiveView could give be a good investment.

Are you excited about the Sony Ericsson LiveView? Are you getting this device as soon as it comes out?
