It looks like a Samsung employee was actively testing the new device to see how it was working and it’s confirmed the device uses a 7 inch touch screen and features 3G connectivity meaning it should be offered for a subsidized price through mobile carriers. The fact that the device uses 3G gives further credence to the possibility it will be released with Vodaphone in the UK, especially since it was leaked in an inventory screenshot a week ago. In addition, the Galaxy Tab can probably be best described as a larger version of the popular Galaxy S smartphone. Unsurprisingly, the employee using the device described the phone as “awesome” and “different” from the iPad, but he would not comment on the specifics of the device nor about pricing and release information. Hopefully we’ll see Samsung introduce the Galaxy Tab at IFA 2010 just a few short weeks away. Well don’t bother purchasing it from Verizon’s online store or even the local Verizon store because Amazon is offering the Droid 2 for $99 on a new two year contract, which is $100 cheaper than Verizon. In fact, even Wirefly is offering the Motorola Droid 2 for $149, which is $50 cheaper than Verizon’s current price. I don’t think there is any expiration date on the deal from Amazon, so if you’re considering the Motorola Droid 2 you have plenty of time to make a decision. How about the Kyocera Zio? The handset has come available with Cricket Wireless and will set you back $249.99 for the phone and $55 each month. Of course, that $55 per month is contract free and also comes with unlimited talk, text, web and email. As for the Kyocera Zio, the handset comes touting a 3.5 inch WVGA touchscreen display, 3G, Wi-fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3.2 megapixel camera, 512MB internal storage and a microSD card slot. All things considered, it is not a high-end phone, but still a nice offering. The one catch here is that the Zio ships with Android 1.6. Kind of a bummer, but not necessarily a deal breaker either. Well, it looks like you may have another option, that is as long as you do not mind a little bit of work to load up a vanilla Android 2.1 installation. That said, the progress with this build is still early and there are a few items that are not yet working, some of which may be a deal breaker such as the camera. But hey, if nothing else, hit the read link below and follow the progress and wait for the bugs to get worked out before you proceed. If nothing else, the video showing the proof is nice to see. T-Mobile has the Vibrant and AT&T has the Captivate, but what happens if you wanted it the other way. You know, the Vibrant on AT&T and the Captivate on T-Mobile. Well, you may just be in luck thanks to some of the super crafty users over on the xda developers forums. According to the details, the unlock codes for both devices are stored on the phones themselves and they are (relatively) easy to access. That means you can unlock your AT&T branded Captivate and use it on T-Mobile or you can unlock your T-Mobile branded Vibrant and use it on AT&T. And just in case anyone was wondering, the Vibrant owners will be happier with this unlock. It is being reported that once unlocked the Samsung Vibrant will not only work for voice and EDGE date with AT&T, but the 3G is also good to go. Sadly though, the Captivate will not take the T-Mobile 3G, but is still good for voice and EDGE data. Unfortunately there was nothing in terms of a price or release date, however for what it is worth—there were some specs. According to the listing, the T-Mobile G2 Blaze will feature a 3.7 inch Active Matrix OLED display, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, slide-out QWERTY keyboard and Android with the HTC Sense user interface. Ok, so that last one was a bit strange, as far as what had been rumored, the G2 Blaze was going to be running stock vanilla Android. But then again, Walmart is far from the end all be all in terms of these specs. That said, here is a fairly simple way to get access to the full Android Market on an Archos 7 Home Tablet. To begin, download the firmware that you will be loading visiting the ArchosFans user forums (read link below) or you can simply click here. After the file is downloaded; “Load the update.img linked at bottom of thread into the root of your A7HT. Turn off USB sharing and you will be prompted to install an update. Click install and A7 will reboot, install the update and eventually go back to the setup screen. Go into settings, turn on WiFi and connect to your router. Once it is connected, open any of the Google apps (market, Gmail, Calendar) and go through the Google setup screens. After you are complete with that install the contacts.apk and then the GoogleContactsProvider.apk. The GoogleContactsProvider.apk will give you some message about it being a system app that is already installed…. bla bla bla… Click OK and continue. All is well with the world. And yes, I know you will get an additional app called dialer or something like that but that is something you will just have to deal with as it is part of the contacts.” Read [ArchosFans Forum] Via [ArchosFans] Full Story » | Written by Robert Nelson for Gadgetell. | Comment on this Article » More Recent Articles |
