Google's net nutrality ad of 06'

I couldn’t watch this without chuckling just a little bit. It’s always good to see how quickly a company can turn its back on their ideals. The video below aired four years ago and was made prior to the vote on the Internet Freedom Preservation Act of 2007. What I can’t really get a grasp on is why the media feels the need to backup Google during this debacle as if they are our virtual savior of some sort. On the same token, I also can’‘t understand why some of the media feels like this is the worst thing to have happened in the history of the internet. Although the implications could have negative effects on the common internet user, it is still simply a proposal. (Seriously though, I hope I’m not going to look back on that last sentence and regret saying it). Take a look for yourself; it not evil.

Oh, how cheap words can sway the most incredulous of us into believing anything. It’s pretty obvious that the future will be completely wireless. With that said, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the big boys will be trying to make their mark on the future digital media. Get ready to kiss those ethernet cables goodbye.

Samsung looking to optimize GPS performance on Galaxy S phones

Section: Communications, Cellphones, Cellular Providers, Smartphones

Carla Saavedra tweet

Many Galaxy S users (the Samsung Captivate and the Samsung Vibrant) have expressed issues regarding the GPS functionality of their smartphone.  It looks like Samsung is well aware of the problem and is working on a fix as we speak.  According to a tweet by CarlaSaavedra:

“Samsung is testing software to optimize #GPS on Galaxy S phones. Look for updates in September. Details & download instructions to follow.”

Maybe the GPS fix will be offered in the Android 2.2 Software OTA update?  Probably not, but it’s nice to know that Samsung has a solution to the GPS problem that should be ready to go in the coming weeks.

HTC Leaks: Bee, Lexikon, Spark courtesy of Chinese blog

Section: Communications, Cellphones, Cellular Providers, Smartphones

HTC Logo

Ready for some more Android and WP7 phone leaks?  According to Chinese blog 911sniper, HTC has three new phones under wraps - two of which run Android 2.2 and the other runs Windows Phone 7.  I recommend you take this rumor with a grain of salt because we don’t have any images or videos to go along with the phones, and the only information provided comes from three spec sheets.

The HTC Bee operates on Android 2.2 with HTC Sense UI, 528MHz processor, 5MP camera, LED Flash, 3.2 inch QVGA touch screen display, and 2GB onboard memory in the form of a microSD card.  No word on availability or pricing of this device, but it sounds like a solid, mid-range device.

The next HTC smartphone to run Froyo is the HTC Lexikon.  The Lexikon features a 3.8 inch touch screen display, 5MP camera, QWERTY keyboard, 800MHz processor, 4GB onboard storage, and HTC Sense as well.  This device should probably cost more than the Bee as it comes with slightly better features and specs.

The last HTC phone from the Chinese blog is the Spark, which is set to be a Windows Phone 7 device.  It features a 3.7 inch WVGA touch screen, 1GHz processor, 1,350 mAh battery, 5MP camera, Proximity, Light, and G senor, and comes with 512MB of ROM and RAM.

If these phones happen to be legitimate, I’d imagine more leaks and rumors to surface over the coming weeks in anticipation of a fall launch.  Feel free to check out the spec sheets below.
