Now, you’d think that HP would try putting to mobile OS on just a few computers to start, but it seems HP has a much bigger plan than that. In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, HP CEO Leo Apotheker said that the company plans to bring WebOS to all PCs it ships next year. The platform will run on the PCs in addition to Windows. The idea is that with such a large number of users with WebOS developers will start to make more apps for the platform. That would give HP not only a boost in smartphone sales, but also printers and PCs if successful. The move has potential to greatly increase the number of apps in the App Catalog which currently holds 6,000 apps. I doubt that even putting WebOS on PCs would entice people to buy a Pre 3 or Veer over an iPhone or Android smartphone. It is great news for those who are fans of the platform already, though. Given how the Pre 3 will work with the TouchPad, it stands to reason that those who buy a Pre 3 and and HP PC with WebOS will be able to handle all they’re messages on the PC as well as the phone. You’ll be able to do many of your day-to-day tasks without having to drastically switch environments. That seems like a nice idea to me, and it’s something no other company can replicate, no matter how many cool iOS tricks Apple brings to Lion. Well, here’s one - TELUS. Well, after its CEO openly stating that he was a bit “bullish on the PlayBook” before, here comes TELUS sending out invites to its SMB customers. For what event? Well, the invite says it’s the TELUS-Blackberry event for Playbook.” I’m pretty sure the invitation is not about the launching of some children’s book boys and girls. It’s definitely the BlackBerry PlayBook. The said event is scheduled on March 22 which shall also be a venue for RIM not only to launch the PlayBook under TELUS’ wings but their other products as well. Soon after that, expect TELUS to make an announcement on when and how you can grab one of the most anticipated tablet device this year. Unfortunately, no other details about TELUS’ PlayBook plans are available yet. via [MobileSyrup] Full Story » | Written by Arnold Zafra for Gadgetell. | Comment on this Article » Section: Audio, Portable Audio, Communications, Computers, Mobile Computers Research in Motion seems to be positioning its upcoming tablet, the BlackBerry Playbook pretty much as an all-around device. It just snag a deal with 7digital Music Store, a London-based digital media delivery company for the 7digital Music Store to come pre-installed on the PlayBook during launch day. If you’re planning to get the BlackBerry PlayBook, this means that you’ll have access to 7digital’s catalogue of more than 13 million high quality MP3s. With the music store, you’ll be able to search for tracks, albums, and artists as well as preview tracks before buying them. You can also find new music through 7digital’s music recommendation service. Now here’s a bit of good news - prices for BlackBerry PlayBook users will equally match the prices of MP3s on 7digital.com including individual tracks and albums. Now, if you’re attending the South by South West conference in Austin, Texas this week, be sure to check out the BlackBerry PlayBook running the 7digital Music Store at the event. Hopefully, this gets you excited for the upcoming release of the BlackBerry Playbook sometime in April. Yesterday I brought you the news that HP was selling the Pre 2 for $29.99 with a two-year contract. I also posited that it wouldn’t be too long before the smartphone was knocked down to free on contract. I didn’t expect it to take just 24 hours for that to happen. On HP’s website you can now purchase the Palm Pre 2 for just the price of signing up for a new contract. The Pre 2 is probably the best smartphone you can get for free on Verizon if you want to buy a new phone. A quick look on Verizon Wireless’ website shows that the only other unused free smartphone is the Motorola Citrus. For pre-owned phones you can also get the LG Ally and BlackBerry Curve 8530. Sure, WebOS isn’t as popular as Android, but at least the Pre 2 should be a bit faster than any of the other options. As with yesterday, know that the Pre 2 was outdated before it was even launched. As an introductory smartphone you could do much worse, though you might want to upgrade when the Pre 3 is finally launched. The details suggest that the April event would focus on iOS 5 and also detail the changes that are to come with MobileMe. So far the details are still light (read: unconfirmed and rumor) however it is being suggested that this event could take place on either the 14th or 15th and at the Apple Campus. Also worth noting, having an event like this would be fitting in with previous years history in terms of iOS updates. At the time it was referred to as the Samsung SCH-i520, however it was rather quickly found to be the Samsung Stealth and it is heading to Verizon. Well as it turns out, the Stealth has not been so stealth as of late and has been caught and captured in several in-the-wild style images. The pics (which can be seen above) show off the front and backside and also clearly show the Verizon branding. Of course, we already knew it was heading to Verizon. That said, we are still not sure on the release date or pricing. In the meantime, lets offer a recap on those specs which include a 4.3 inch (480 x 800) Super AMOLED Plus display, 1GHz Hummingbird processor, A-GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, 3.5mm headphone jack, 1500 mAh battery, microSD card slot, 1.3 megapixel front facing camera and an 8 megapixel rear facing camera. In addition there will also be HDMI out, Mobile Hotspot and Android 2.2 Froyo. The device is expected to be the HTC Flyer, however it is said to be coming as the HTC EVO View. Either way and naming aside, the EVO View tablet will be 4G capable and this speculation is coming based on the recent HTC trademark filings for the “HTC EVO VIEW 4G” name. Of course, the Sprint speculation comes into play because they are the only ones using the EVO brand. That said, it seems to go without saying that Sprint is going to release a device called the EVO View, but it also looks like we are going to have to wait and see if that is the Flyer or another device entirely. And while there is not all that much to go on, we do know that Samsung will be showing off the complete “78910” Galaxy Tab lineup during the event, with the 7 being the 7 inch (currently available model), the 8.9 inch (still mysterious) and the 10 inch (still unavailable but not as mysterious). That said, the image that Samsung recently posted on their Facebook page does have us more than a little curious, not only does it look like this tablet has a carbon fiber exterior design, but it appears to be rather thin. In fact, the headphone jack seems to have been rounded out to accommodate for the thinness of the actual tablet. This latest brings the version up to 10.2.1 and it is believed to contain bug fixes. Of course, we can only say believe because if you read the change notes for 10.2.1, they are the same as 10.2 and include the ability to “sync with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 4.3” as well as “improved Home Sharing” which gives the ability to “browse and play your iTunes libraries with Home Sharing on any iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 4.3.” Given that, this small point one update must be fixing a bug or two and while maybe not quite as exciting, if this is what it takes to keep things running smoothly or finalize the prep work for the iOS 4.3 roll-out then we can deem it welcomed. And as always, the iTunes update is available by way of the iTunes section of the Apple website or by Software Update on your computer.
