Section: Communications, Mobile, Computers, Mobile Computers Another bit of yet-to-be-confirmed BlackBerry PlayBook information has come available, and this time it comes in the form of a release date for the US market. Well, more specifically, a release date with Staples. The details are coming by way of CrackBerry who have an image of when PlayBook “promo signage” will be going on display in the stores. Anyway, the sign is apparently set to be displayed in Stapes locations as of April 17th and given that it is likely to assume that the tablet will also be available for sale. Still, something a bit more official from RIM or even Staples would be nicer, but while we wait for that we are going to hope the April 17th date is accurate so we can put another series of release rumors to rest. According to the details, the PlayBook will be available on April 10th and they will begin accepting pre-orders as of today. Seems a little strange that we would get this little tidbit from Sears Canada as opposed to from RIM, but then again, stranger things have happened in the past. That said, if you are living in Canada and wanting a PlayBook (and are an affiliate with Sears) then you may want to see if you can actually pre-order. Otherwise, we here at Gadgetell are going to remain on the lookout for something a bit more official. In short, they did not announce a release date or even mention the now-missing-message from Imran, however they did note that the phone was coming “soon.” Of course, it seems like we have heard that before. Anyway, for what it is worth, here is what HTC had to say in regards to the Thunderbolt; “There is a lot of excitement about the first Verizon LTE device, the HTC ThunderBolt. HTC and Verizon will officially and publicly announce the Thunderbolt launch dates soon. Please stay tuned for the debut of this great new device.” Via [HTC on Facebook] Full Story » | Written by Robert Nelson for Gadgetell. | Comment on this Article » Section: Communications, Cellular Providers, Smartphones, Mobile I can honestly say that I am not sure if this is fun or just sad at this point, but it looks like we have ANOTHER bit of rumor in terms of when the HTC Thunderbolt is going to be released. The date is March 17th and has come by way of an HTC sales manager who posted the following message on Twitter. “Are you ready to call down the HTC Thunderbolt? The first 4GLTE Smartphone on the Verizon Wireless network is launching on March 17th! Yes!!” Of course, coming directly from someone within HTC does lend some credibility, but what lends even more credibility is that the tweet has since been deleted from Twitter. That said, until we here something from Verizon in the form of a official press release we are going to try and keep the excitement in check. And just as a little giggle, the Tweet had been sent using HTC Peep. Via [Twitter @ImranHTC] Update: Tweet has since been removed. Still, it kind of seems strange that it has been rumored as coming for so long. After all, at this point the Galaxy Tab (though still more than capable) is starting to feel like its getting on in age. Anyway, the details suggest that the Wi-Fi only Galaxy Tab will be dropping on April 4th and it will come with a $399 price tag. Of course, the big question is, do people still want a Wi-Fi only Galaxy Tab or have they already given up and picked up a 3G capable Galaxy Tab? With the launch of the iPad 2 the group took a trip from the West coast to the East coast to get the tablet and disassemble it as quickly as possible. So if you already have an iPad 2 or are holding off for some reason you can see just what;s inside the device. For those wondering, iFixIt found a slightly improved battery inside the iPad 2. The difference is only .2 Wh (up to 25 Wh from the original’s 24.8 Wh), so Apple didn’t have to pack in a ton more battery to get the same battery life this time. The rest of the internals should come as no surprise from what we’ve heard already. There’s 512 MB of RAM, the A5 CPU, and Toshiba NAND Flash storage. The back camera is proven to be the same 0.9 MP one you’d find in the iPod touch. It’s obvious by the design of the iPad 2 that Apple doesn’t want you to get in it, and it seems iFixIt warns against it as well. The group gave the iPad 2 a 4/10 repairability rating. A lot of that is because you need to use a a heat gun to remove the screen from the tablet because of the adhesive used. The screen is also thinner than before, making it easy to break the screen while taking it off. For more info, check out iFixIt at the link below and watch this video.
