Section: Communications, Smartphones, Mobile, Imaging, Digital Cameras Adobe has just updated its Photoshop Express app for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. If you’ve downloaded this app before, you’re aware that this app allows you to do some minor edits to your photos. You can also crop, straighten or rotate your photos as well as apply various filters, digital effects or adjust color settings. So now with the new feature, Adobe has added an in-app purchase option that will bring in more cool features to Photoshop Express for iOS devices. A great feature that comes with the Camera Pack which is very useful especially since photos taken using iOS devices are not that really great is Noise Reduction. The app will automatically detect grainy photos and apply the corresponding corrections. Another nice feature of the Camera Pack add-on is the self timer which allows you to delay the shutter button by 3 to 10 seconds before your iOS device takes the photo. There is also a nice auto review function that lets you review photos right after you’ve taken them, just like how most digital cameras work. Overall, the Camera Pack seems to be a pretty nice upgrade especially if you often use your iPhone for taking photos. If you are willing to spend $3.99 to have those cool features check it out via the in-app purchase option if you have the app already installed on your iOS devices. The clues come in a poem from BlackmanX, who, according to Android Guys, is a “well known and trusted Verizon insider.” The poem seems to hint that the Motorola Droid Bionic could be on it’s way soon. The poem holds a thinly veiled mention of the Thunderbolt, saying there’s another device on the way that will be better. Rather than explain the full poem, I’ll put it here, and some more comments below. His poem “Hypebeast Hangover” reads: When Beer flows in the color of envy and the rainbows are all but empty and you bask in the Thunder so bold… But if it's another device you seek to reach your Peak, then you may yet have several weeks. For in the LiTE a new device shall shine, and perhaps that is fine if dual cores you don't mind… For Stevie Austin moves like a blur, Unless it stock style you prefer… But its calmness we shall seek, And shy away from the Hype-beast So those signing two year choices, don't blame panda forces, But the unknown sources that raise your hopes so high…. Cause at the end of the tweet a Sneaky Panda speaks and he says… YOU MAY WANT TO WAIT TO BUY… So, Android Guys pointed out that Stevie Austin was the bionic Six Million Dollar Man (my mind got hung up there, instead bringing to mind the wrestler with a similar name). Of course, “moves like a Blur” reference some sort of Motoblur, though perhaps with a option of using stock Android (probably through an unlocked bootloader). There’s also obvious reference to the phone’s LTE radio and dual core Tegra 2 CPU. So, it’s not a firm release date, but it’d better than nothing. Perhaps we can expect to see the Bionic in the coming weeks. CTIA would be a great time for such an announcement, and that’d just a few days away. If the Bionic is really just a few weeks away, it would be a great time to wait. It’s very similar to the fantastic Atrix 4G, but without the laptop dock, and the Bionic can actually use 4G. The connection bar is a very useful feature if you check your Gmail accounts using your iPhone’s Safari web browser instead of the default native iPhone Gmail app. Connection bar which appears at the bottom of your iPhone’s screen tells you whether your iPhone has been successfully sent or whether your iPhone’s internet connection is functioning at all. This is particular useful when you are sending an important email because you can be sure that the email is sent or not before you close the Safari browser or leaving the Gmail web app. To avoid annoying users, Google made sure that the connection bar won’t go in the way of your email browsing activities. As such the connection bar appears online on certain conditions - when checking for new email, when your iPhone is offline, when your iPhone is back online, when sending email and when email has been sent. After appearing for a second, the connection bar automatically hides itself away. To see how this feature works, check out your Gmail account using your iPhone’s Safari web browser and visit gmail.com. You might need to clear your browser’s cache or refreshing first if you don’t see the connection bar at once. via [Google Mobile Blog] Full Story » | Written by Arnold Zafra for Gadgetell. | Comment on this Article » Section: Communications, Smartphones, Mobile While we still have to wait and see what Nokia does with Windows Phone 7 the Finnish company still has a few Symbian phones to sell. One of those, the Nokia C7, could possibly be coming to T-Mobile early next month. According to TmoNews, the Nokia Astound (originally called the C7, also known as the Tiger) will be coming to T-Mobile on April 6 for $79.99. That price is after an unspecified rebate. Not only will the Astound be coming next month, but Nokia apparently has four other Symbian phones to launch on T-Mobile this year. TmoNews expects Nokia Windows Phone 7 phones to come in 2012, which seems a bit too far away. The Astound is set to likely be announced at CTIA next week. Seems almost like this is just Nokia trying to keep the brand alive until phones with the better OS start shipping. Maybe someone will want an Astound, but with phones like the upcoming Sidekick 4G on T-Mobile as well, that seems unlikely. Well, as previously announced, the Motorola Atrix is now available for purchase under Bell’s various contract options as well as a no contract. Bell is offering the Motorola Atrix for $599.99 on contract, $574.95 on 1-year contract, $549.95 on two-year contract and $169.95 on a three-year contract. The last option comes with a Smartphone plan which will cost you $50/month or more. Pricing-wise, it seems that the differences between the no contract, 1 and 2 year contracts are not that big so if you don’t want to get tied up to Bell for two years, the no-contract or 1-year contract option sound like a nice deal. Which ever plan you choose, you’ll still be able to score the Motorola Atrix smartphone. And as a review, this phone features Android 2.2 which is upgradeable to Android 2.3 later on, 4-inch qHD touchscreen display, 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 Dual-Core processor, 1GB of RAM, Flash Player 10.1, a 5MP rear-facing camera and VGA front-facing one, microSD card support, 16GB of internal memory, Wi-Fi, and Biometric fingerprint reader. via [MobileSyrup] Full Story » | Written by Arnold Zafra for Gadgetell. | Comment on this Article » Section: Communications, Smartphones, Web, Google A full nine months and two versions after it’s initial release Android 2.2 Froyo is clearly the most popular version of Android at the moment. If not the most popular, it is at least the most widely used version. According to Google, of all the Market-capable Android devices out there, 61.3 percent are running on Froyo. The next most used version is Android 2.1 which is used on 29 percent of devices. So, if you have an Android device, there’s a 90 percent chance that you’re running on 2.1 or 2.2. That’s not bad at all, though it would be a lot nicer if the full 90 percent was on 2.2 given the vast improvements made to the OS between the two versions. On a less positive note, Gingerbread has a very small share of the market. Android 2.3 and 2.3.3 combined have a total of 1.7 percent of the Android market. It’s sad that the most recent version of the smartphone OS is less used than two of the oldest versions. Android 1.5 and 1.6 have shares of 3 and 4.8 percent, respectively. Going on to tablets, we can see just how unsuccessful the Xoom has been so far. Honeycomb is one 0.2 percent of Market-capable devices. Maybe that will improve as the OS gets more refined and gains more apps. For now, though it seems Honeycomb is slow to gain traction. The G-Slate is a 10 inch tablet that has 3D features and will be running Android 3.0 Honeycomb while the GX2 is the T-Mobile version of the Optimus 2X and will feature a dual-core processor and Android 2.2. I mean, what could Asus possibly do? After all, netbooks are almost of the same functionality as tablets but consumers seem to be more vent at getting tablets instead of netbooks. How about, coming out with an Asus netbook at dirt cheap price? As in - $200-$250 cheap? Well, that’s what Asustek is reportedly planning to do according to Digitimes. Said sub $200 netbook, which has been the dream of many netbook fans might finally come into fruition by June. According to the report, there is a huge chance that this might push through since Asustek wants to achieve its goal of shipping six million netbooks this year. At the rate that they are going right now, it looks like this might be difficult to achieve. And so the need for the dirt cheap Asus netbook. So what do you think, folks? Can Asustek pull this one off and re-established itself in the netbook market again? According to the details coming from the Windows Team Blog, they manage to serve up 2.35 million downloads in the first 24 hours. “That is over 27 downloads every second, or over 240 downloads every 9 seconds.” Granted, it may not the world record setting 8 million that Firefox once achieved, but 2.35 million for a browser that seems to be hated on a rather deep level by lots and lots of geeks is not all that bad. You’re best bet will be to check out Costco.com. Costco is offering up the WiFi XOOM for only $589. That’s $10 off from the offer of other retailers including Amazon.com, Best Buy, RadioShack, select Sam's Club location, Staples and Walmart. But that is of course if these other retailers will not follow Costco and reduce the price of their Wi-Fi XOOM. There is one hitch to this though. And well, according to this DigiTimes report, it looks like Asus may be one of those who will be rolling out a Chrome OS based netbook. Based on the information that is available at this time, the device will be a netbook and feature a 10.1 inch display, single-core Intel Atom processor and thanks in part to using Chrome OS—it should come in priced as low as $200. That said, if Asus is able to offer a 10 inch netbook running Chrome OS—I will pick one up from day one. That is unless you really need the GPS chip in your iPad. Now we have evidence that if you have an iPhone you shouldn’t even need a GPS chip in your iPad. It seems that if you put your iPhone into Personal Hotspot mode you can get your GPS coordinates sent right to the iPad. The coordinates apparently don’t update all that frequently, but they are present, which is definitely better than nothing. It could be valuable for using Google Maps on a larger screen while traveling, as shown in the video from Tablet Monsters below. So, now there really doesn’t seem to be much of a reason to buy a WiFi + 3G version of the new iPad 2. If you have an iPhone 4 you can get everything you could want out of the WiFi version of the iPad 2. Sure, you lose the option of spending only $14.99 a month for a minimal amount of data. But, you save $130 when buying the iPad 2. I’d say that’s a pretty good trade, especially considering you can use Personal Hotspot with almost any other device as well.
