There are always apps to alleviate the pain, apps like MagikMail from YouMail. YouMail’s MagikMail brings visual voicemail to Windows Phone 7 for $1.99. There’s also a “lite” version that’s free and ad-supported. The apps give you push notifications to let you know you have voicemails, and will transcribe the messages so you don’t even have to listen to them. Pretty useful if you’re in a situation where you don’t want to or can’t use your phone. That is, of course, assuming the transcribing get’s everything right, and if it’s anything like Google Voice it will be wrong quite often. After reading the transcription you can reply to the voicemail via SMS, again useful if you can’t or don’t want to talk on the phone. The app will even let you forward voicemails to email so you can share them with others if you’re comfortable with that. Doesn’t seem like a bad deal at all. At least it;s better than waiting for Microsoft to do something about it, but it’s efforts would be better served in getting multitasking working on the platform. That feature is one we’ve seen in a few Google products before now: speech to text. The latest version of Chrome beta is able to take speech and put that into text via HTML5. All you’d have to do is speak into your computer, and Google sends the speech to it’s servers to be translated into texts. The feature isn’t available in every text box as is has to be enabled, but it can make for some interesting applications once it is pushed to the stable build for everyone. I can imagine Google implementing the API into it’s own properties once it is available for everyone. If nothing else this could easily make YouTube comments a bit easier to read. It wouldn’t make the comments easier to understand or more enjoyable to read, but at least the words will be spelled correctly. If you have the beta release of Chrome you can test out the functionality here. If not, you can always download the beta release or just wait a few weeks for it to be implemented into the stable channel. The LG Optimus 3D just passed through the FCC and you know what happens next after this, right? But that’s not what makes this news interesting but the fact that the FCC document reveals that the LG Optimus 3D will support T-Mobile’s AWS (1700 MHZ) network. This information gives us a hint that the LG Optimus 3D might actually be released through T-Mobile aside from AT&T which is also planning to release the said smartphone. However, AT&T has just announced the LG Thrill 4G which is said to be its own version of the LG Optimus 3D. But we’ll know for sure in the coming days whether T-Mobile is really carrying the Android-powered LG Optimus 3G despite the fact that it recently launched two other Android smartphones - the LG GX and LG G-Slate. To pu that into perspective, Internet Explorer 9 was launched a week before and holds less than 1 percent of the market according to Statcounter. As of this writing Mozilla’s latest version of Firefox has just over 9.5 million downloads since launching yesterday. That’s quite an impressive number, though it’s not as impressive as the 8 million Firefox 3 saw on day one almost three years ago. It certainly beats the 2.35 million Internet Explorer saw on it’s first day. It wouldn’t be too surprising if the numbers are smaller because some of the users who downloaded Firefox 3 back in the day have switched over to Chrome, I know I have. A lot of the reason for Firefox 4 having such big numbers compared to IE9 is that Firefox is available on more platforms. The largest part of that is Windows XP which a lot of computers are still running on. There’s also Mac OS X and Linux, but those numbers aren’t nearly as big as XP. It makes sense for Microsoft to somewhat ignore XP to get users to upgrade, but until then Mozilla can take advantage by giving users of the outdated OS a more modern browser. But wait, don’t get too excited immediately because this offer is good for Microsoft employees only. Unfortunately Verizon is not saying as to when the device will be available for public consumption but the fact that it is still offering the HTC Trophy to lucky Microsoft employees might be an indication that the device’s public release might be soon. So if you’re a Microsoft employee, you have until April 1 to avail of this attractive deal. All you need to do is ask Verizon to extend the service contract for another two years and then you will get $100 in billing credit on your account. You will then need to wait for Verizon’s email informing you when the HTC Trophy will arrive . Once you have the information you just pay $199 and you’ll get your HTC Trophy. After using the HTC Trophy for some time, you’ll soon be reimbursed by Microsoft with the $199 you paid for the device. Sounds like a great deal, right? Lucky you, because the HTC Trophy will also now be featuring the NoDo update plus you’ll also enjoy what is touted as the HTC Wildfire counterpart for the Windows 7 Phone platform.
