Nokia has just introduced a new feature phone - the Nokia X1-00. Retailing for not more than €35, this phone offers maximum boom-per-buck indeed. Yes, folks the Nokia X1-000 is a music lover’s phone featuring a massive speaker on the back which is even rated at 106phon perceived loudness. An in simple words - the phone’s loudness is simply loud enough. The good thing here is that the frequency response of the sound has been tweaked so that the its sound will not be distorted even at the highest volume.

Since the Nokia X1-00 is a music phone, it naturally has a 3.5mm audio jack where you can plug in either your speakers or headphones. Other features related to its music functionality include - three dedicated player keys, single-key playlist creator, microSD memory card support, and integrated FM radio.

As for its other features and specs not related to music functionality, the Nokia X1-00 features Series 30 OS, calendar, clock and calculator, and preloaded games.

The Nokia X1-00 will be available in either orange or blue color design. It is slated for an early April release in selected markets. Any takers?

T-Mobile looking to merge with Sprint?

Section: Communications, Cellular Providers

T-Mobile Sprint

It’s no secret that T-Mobile USA isn’t in the best of shapes at the moment. The company lost 56,000 accounts last year while it started the year at number four of the top US carriers. All the other carriers gained users last year. So, it’s not too surprising that Deutsche Telekom, the German parent company of T-Mobile USA, is looking for a way to save the company.

According to Bloomberg, one possible way to solve the issues T-Mobile USA is facing is to merge the company with Sprint. According to anonymous sources, the two companies are in talks to form one company, with Deutsche Telekom as a major share holder. It seems the one thing that has been proven an issue with the talks has been the valuation of T-Mobile USA. It seems Deutsche Telekom wants more than what Sprint thinks the fourth-place carrier is worth. On analyst pegged the valuation at “well south of $20 billion, well below what Deutsche Telekom would look for."

Of course, from a consumer point of view, the merger wouldn’t make much sense. Given that the companies use different standards, it’s not clear how they would merge. Perhaps all T-Mobile customers would have to switch over to Sprint, but that would leave all the T-Mobile GSM towers worthless. Perhaps the companies can work something out with the 4G plan (T-Mobile is talking to Clearwire, which Sprint currently uses), but for 3G and just voice, I don’t see how this could work out well for consumers.

Angry Birds Seasons goes green for St. Patrick's Day

Section: Apple, Communications, Smartphones, Computers, Software / Applications

Angry Birds Seasons Saint Patrick's Day update

Rovio has announced the latest set of levels for it’s Angry Birds Seasons game. For March the game will go green to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day. Thankfully that doesn’t look mean you’ll be forced to use the terrible green boomerang bird for all of the levels.

For Rovio, going green for Saint Patrick’s Day means an overall green and gold color scheme. The background will be decorated with rolling hills and four-leaf clovers. The evil pigs will don their green top hats to celebrate the occasion as well. But of course it wouldn’t be Saint Patrick’s Day without pots of gold, which are here as well. I’m going to assume that the pigs exchanged the stolen golden eggs to get ahold of them, or they simply robbed a bunch of leprechauns.

The update to Angry Birds Season should be coming very soon to Android and iOS. Those using WebOS and Symbian will have to wait a bit longer, which I assume they’re accustomed to by now.

Microsoft reportedly paying Nokia $1 billion for Windows Phone 7 smartphone deal

Section: Communications, Smartphones, Mobile

We know that Nokia is going to begin making Windows Phone 7 devices, but what we don’t know are the complete terms of the deal that took place between Microsoft and Nokia. And while these may never fully come out, it now looks like quite a bit of money has changed hands from Microsoft to Nokia. The reports are coming from Bloomberg, who have (according to “two people with knowledge of the terms”) learned that amount of money is “more than” $1 billion. Furthermore, and slightly more interesting is that this deal is said to be going into effect for five years. Given that and assuming this all rings out as true, we are going to have quite a few WP7 running Nokia handsets to look forward to over the next couple of years. Of course, to add to this, and on the flip side while Microsoft is paying Nokia, the same is going back to Microsoft in the form of Nokia paying for software licensing. Bottom line, it sounds like lots of money will be changing hands between the two companies.

Facebook now allows you to rent movies, kicks off with The Dark Knight

Section: Video, Content, Portable Video, Video Providers, Web, Web 2.0 / Social Networking, Online Music/Video

Facebook movie rental

I don’ t know what you’ll find more interesting in this news, but Facebook has started rolling out movie rental via Facebook.com or the fact that the guinea pig for this experiment is again Warner Bros.’ The Dark Knight. In case you forgot, The Dark Knight was recently turned into an iPad and iPhone app with special features here and there plus the right to rent the movie for a specific time. It was an experimental movie distribution strategy, similar to what Facebook and Warner Bros. are doing right now.

So, with the Facebook movie rental, you can now spend your Facebook credits. Yes, the ones you use for in-app purchases on Facebook games. Under the rental gig, you’ll have 48 hours to watch the movie over and over again, on Facebook.com. The Dark Knight can be rented for $3 which is quite cheap. Although, don’t count to much on getting the movie in HD format because it will most likely not be the case especially if you consider the cheap rental price.

Still, if you’re a big fan of the movie, and you want to watch it again, this time in the comforts of your computer’s screen - as it streams online, check out Facebook’s movie rental page then. And please tell us about your experience in case you rent the movie.

Google updates Maps Navigation for Android, brings real-time traffic

Google has once again returned with an update for the Maps Navigation app on Android and this one will be especially welcomed by those who hate getting stuck in traffic. Yup, Google has added real-time traffic data into Maps Navigation for Android. And the best part is, you can continue to navigate like you always have. In other words, enter your destination and begin driving, from there Google will take over and automatically reroute should you find yourself coming into an area that is historically bad with traffic. According to Google;

“Starting today, our routing algorithms will also apply our knowledge of current and historical traffic to select the fastest route from those alternates. That means that Navigation will automatically guide you along the best route given the current traffic conditions.”

With that, the latest update for Maps Navigation can be found in the Android Market and it available for those in North America and Europe.

Rumor: HTC Flyer Android tablet to come available with $600 price tag

Section: Communications, Mobile, Computers, Mobile Computers

The details are still rather light on this one, however DigiTimes is reporting that the HTC Flyer may be priced “around $600” when it comes available here in the US market. Of course, this detail is coming by way of a “Chinese-language Commercial Times report” and not from HTC, which really means things can still change.

Although HTC has not yet made any official announcement about Flyer’s pricing, industry rumors indicate that the Flyer’s price will be around US$600, cheaper than Samsung’s Galaxy Tab’s US$650-900, but higher than Apple’s iPad 2’s US$499, the paper added.

That said, the Flyer is expected to come available in Q2 2011 and bring features to include a 7 inch display, 1.5GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 32GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Android 2.4.

White 64GB iPhone surfaces in Hong Kong

For what it is worth to those outside of Hong Kong a reportedly “confirmed” 64GB iPhone 4 prototype has surfaced in the gray markets of Sin Tak. According to the details given on this device, the phone has the model number of 995-6049LL and it seems to show that Apple was at least considering offering a 64GB storage option in the iPhone 4. Who knows, maybe a 64GB offering will show up with the iPhone 5. But then again, it seems with more and more people moving towards the cloud for storage and streaming for music and videos, that larger storage options may not be quite as necessary. Even myself, in the past I always opted for the iPhone with the largest amount of storage at the time, but this time I happily purchased the 16GB and probably would have went 8GB if I would have had the option. That said, at least for now we can stare at the image of the 64GB white iPhone 4 prototype that we can not buy.
