Section: Communications, Cellphones, Cellular Providers, Smartphones, Mobile It looks like Verizon is going to be making some changes in terms of 3G capable feature phones in the upcoming quarter. The news is coming by way of a leaked Verizon document and clearly states that; “New Feature Phones launching during Q4 will not require a data package.” Of course, that does not mean you will not get the hard sell from overeager Verizon employees when making a purchase. After all, they are still expected to make the offer all the same. Otherwise it looks like a few new devices that will be hitting the feature phone category in the coming months will include the Pantech Crux and the LG Octane. And for those sporting a 3G Multimedia Phone, the $9.99 data package will still be required. And while some of this list pertains to Verizon only, (number 7 deals with “exclusive apps aplenty” and number 1 deals with the “must-have network”) the remaining features are fairly general to the Galaxy Tab as opposed to Verizon. Interestingly enough, the Galaxy Tab from Verizon will include a 16GB microSD card with purchase. That said, check out the list, which comes complete as a rather large image file below… Via [Droid-Life] Full Story » | Written by Robert Nelson for Gadgetell. | Comment on this Article » Section: Web, Websites This morning photo sharing giant Flickr surpassed the 5 billion photo mark as reported by Media Culpa. According to the site’s numbers, Flickr is pacing around a billion uploads a year from users over a three year span. Flickr hit it’s one millionth upload back in October of 2004 and it’s first billion sometime between July and October of 2007. The user that contributed as the 5 billionth upload was Aaron Yeo's (user: yeoaaron) image collage of the Woodward's Building in Vancouver with notation “I am Mr. 5 Billion, and there ain’t nothing you can do to stop me.” And well Aaron, there really isn’t. Comparatively the site is lagging behind Facebook who claimed 15 billion photos uploads back in April of 2009 and sees that number climbing at an estimated 2.5 billion a month. But when considering the types of photos and photo quality uploaded between the two sites, we will happily accept Flickr’s pace over Facebook’s. According to Verizon, “3G pushed the boundaries” and “With Verizon’s 4G, there are none.” Sounds good, but while we wait for the coverage to actually come you can head on over to Verizon and sign up to get some more information. Just remember, while 30 cities will be covered with Verizon LTE goodness by the end of the year, the remainder of the US is going to see a gradual roll-out that is not scheduled to be completed until the end of 2013. In other words, most of us have a long time to wait. Of course we saw the GV Connect app come yesterday, however today brings the one that we here at Gadgetell have been waiting for—GV Mobile +. This app comes courtesy of Sean Kovacs, who has already shown in the past that he can offer a quality app. And on top of offering up front quality, his apps are taken care of into the future. You know, just in case Google decides to make some changes to something simple like the login process. That said, this is a full featured app and it has landed with a $2.99 price tag. While the app is well worth the price, Sean has mentioned on his blog that he will be announcing a special offer via his Twitter account. In other words, you may want to follow @seankovacs on Twitter, and maybe get GV Mobile + for free. Download [GV Mobile + (App Store link)] *Note: If the above download link is not working just yet, be patient, it will show up in a short while. This app has just come available and the servers apparently need some time to do their thing. Sometimes, however these feelings can get in the way of how we are perceived in the work place. Let’s get this out of the way: using terms like Winblows, Microshaft, M$, Windoze, and the like make you look unprofessional at best and an idiot at worst. It’s a basic human instinct (or so it would seem) to hate the man. I get it. However, I’ve run into too many tech folks that use this in conversation and emails that raises everyone’s eyebrows, especially in management. Fostering a distrust of Microsoft isn’t productive for large organizations. They are the man, both in a good sense and the bad. Chances are pretty good your jabs at the man are not going to bring about a change to Google Docs or (sorry, what are the other alternatives again?). We all need to blow off steam now and then. Windows does make you jump through hoops to accomplish even the simplest of tasks. But, there’s a time and place for everything. Work isn’t the one where you want to show off your bitterness. Have you seen or heard these phrases in the workplace? How are the non-techies reacting to these attitudes? Let us know in the comments. According to a Boy Genius rumor, it could be 36 days. Launched on August 12, the Droid 2 may be headed for obsolescence in favor of a yet-to-be-launched World Version. It is expected the World Version Droid 2 will cost the same $199. The World Version, as you might expect would include radios to work overseas. While it’s just a rumor at this point, if true it could upset the army of Droid 2 users who thought they were purchasing the latest and greatest. Perhaps Droid 2 customers won’t mind, as they knew what they were getting into and if world travel was high on the priority list, the Droid 2 might not have been the right choice. Any Droid 2 users want to share their feelings on this? Let us know in the comments. Except he left us for greener pastures. And it looks like one of those pastures has just recently turned green and come in the form of a new video podcast for home-owning geeks. His latest is called “This Old Nerd” and as the description reads, will show “you how you can have the most tech-forward house on the block if you’re willing to do it yourself.” So far there have been two episodes posted (I believe they come out every Thursday) which covered setting up a wired home network and setting up a home media server. And if you ask me, both have been worth watching. According to the latest rumors and chatter on the interwebs, AT&T may be launching the Motorola Flipout this weekend. Of course, given the (lack of) success of the other uniquely designed smartphone they were offering, the Backflip, we are not sure how many are going to be all that excited. Either way, the Motorola Flipout features a 2.8 inch (320 x 240) touchscreen display, 3 megapixel camera, 512MB internal storage, microSD card slot, aGPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, a 3.5mm headphone jack and is running Android 2.1 with Motoblur. No word on the colors that will be available or the price, however this one should be relatively affordable considering the specs.
