Section: Web, Online Music/Video, Google A talented Stanford student by the name of Feross Aboukhadijeh has created an instant search for YouTube. This creation comes shortly after the implementation of Google’s new instant feature. Luckily for Aboukhadijeh, his hours and hours of work caught the eye of YouTube CEO Chad Hurley. Upon finding YouTube instant, Hurley Tweeted to Aboukhadijeh with his accolades of the instant feature as well as a job offer. A tad bit skeptical at first, Aboukhadijeh replied back asking if this was a serious proposition to which Hurley replied that it was. Aboukhadijeh posted his baby on Y Combinator's Hacker News feed which works exactly the same way as Google Instant with the caveat that videos will begin to play automatically as the engine guesses what you type. It’s times like these that make me want to learn programming. Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Tab at its event on September 16, and if this rumor by WSJ pans out, Samsung should announce that AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon will each launch its own version of the Tab. Interestingly, Samsung would have to create a GSM version Galaxy Tab for AT&T, a WiMAX version for Sprint, and a CDMA version for Verizon. But Samsung doesn’t have a problem with creating various devices as evidenced by the Galaxy S launching on all four carriers. In Samsung’s mind, the more carriers selling the Tab means more people having access to a great product on their preferred carrier. In case you’re wondering what happened to T-Mobile, the first American carrier to launch the Galaxy S in America, a person familiar with the matter says a deal hasn’t been worked out yet. Again, we’ll have to wait until Samsung’s special media event on September 16 to see what is announced about the Galaxy Tab. Since Rovio Mobile never publicly announced a timeframe for the full version launch, we are left replaying each level trying to beat our high score. However, in an interview with TalkAndroid, Rovio Mobile did promise the full version of the app to launch in the next two - three weeks. Here is the exact answer given by Rovio Mobile: We are currently working hard to ensure that Angry Birds on Android will offer best game experience for as many people as possible. The expected release date is within 2-3 weeks. In addition, it is worth noting the app does not run on devices with QVGA screens, but Rovio Mobile is working “to add support for QVGA devices.” No word on pricing for the app at this time, but Rovio Mobile does promise additional information will be announced at the time of the launch. Even though Archos calls its device an Internet Tablet, I consider it more of a Portable Media Player as I reserve the label tablet for devices with larger screens. Naming issues aside, the Archos 32 comes with some solid specs and its price tag of $150 is pretty reasonable. The Archos 32 features a 3.2 inch touch screen, Android 2.2, 800MHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, built-in video camera, WiFi, and Bluetooth. In terms of storage, the Internet Tablet features 8GB of onboard memory and offers support for a variety of formats. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with access to the Android Market, instead, it comes pre-loaded with several essential apps. Expect 24 hours of battery when listening to music, 8 hours for web surfing, and 6 hours for video playback. If you are interested in purchasing the Archos 32, the Archos online store is currently selling the Android Internet Tablet for $150. The idea, of couse, is to raise money for cancer research. Sure, you could call in to donate money, or wait donate via the website, or you can pay via Facebook. The telethon seems to mark the first real use for Facebook credits aside from buying virtual corn or cows. Through the event’s Facebook page you can donate your Facebook credits to the cause, with “100% of your donation benefits cutting-edge cancer research.” So Facebook is going to put all of the money you spend on those credits to cancer research, rather than taking a cut for itself aas it would normally do. Be warned, however, that if you donate using credits you received for free, the value of you donation will b reduced by those credits. So for every free credit you use, your donation will diminish by $.10. That’s a shame, as I was hoping to donate my free credits towards the event, but apparently Facebook doesn’t want to donate it’s money to the cause outside of the money it would normally get for the credits. It is also worth noting that on the Facebook page for Stand Up To Cancer you can watch the livestream of the event when it airs at 8 p.m. ET.
