T-Mobile has a sale going on right now for the G2, the carrier’s first 4G smartphone. If you go online to T-Mobile’s website, or call T-Mobile, you can get the G2 for free. The G2 is over six months old at this point, but it is still one of T-Mobile’s better Android phones. If you are aching for a new phone at no cost on contract, the G2 will treat you right. One of the advantages the G2 has over most T-Mobile Android smartphones is its keyboard. The G2 continues to have one of the best keyboards around even though its technical specifications are becoming dated with each passing month. The G2 doesn’t have a dual-core processor like so many phones are shipping with these days, so it probably isn’t the best choice for some of the more processor intensive games such as Shadowgun. If cutting edge technology isn’t a big deal for you, you can’t argue with what the G2 offers - especially for free. If you search “sprint playbook” into Google Search, you’ll notice that the first actual link bears the title “Sprint | Introducing the BlackBerry 4G Playbook Tablet.” However, the link simply leads to Sprint’s home page, and does not announce any further information regarding the 4G PlayBook. I’m sure the same title and link will be in use when Sprint and RIM decide to finally announce the 4G WiMAX version of the PlayBook, hopefully in the coming weeks. Well, today you finally have the chance to get one in the new Evernote beta app. The beta for Evernote 3.1 for Android will actually work on Honeycomb as well as smartphone versions of Google’s OS. The Honeycomb version of the app is the same version that was shown off at Google I/O earlier this month. It is a beta, so there’s a chance that the app will be a bit buggy, but at least there’s an option to use it. To get the app, you just need to download the .apk file from the Evernote forums. You can either download it on your computer and sideload the app, or you can simply download the file straight from your Android device. The UI looks pretty slick, and looks to be fairly similar to the iPad version with some variations. Having a Honeycomb-capable Evernote app makes the Asus Eee Pad Transformer even better.  Section: Communications, Cellphones, Cellular Providers, Smartphones According to a couple of pictures tweeted by Eldar Murtazin, notorious for revealing information about unannounced smartphones, the HTC Mazaa features a 12MP rear facing camera. What looks like the HTC Trophy, the HTC Mazaa represents a smartphone that photo junkies could really get interested in. A 12MP camera is already a step above nearly all smartphones, because they mainly contain 8MP or 5MP shooters. In addition, the HTC Mazaa supports raw image capture. Now, the Mazaa is said to be running Mango, the latest OS version for Windows Phone 7 devices. According to WMPoweruser, the fact that there is an arrow button on the lower left hand side of the screen in the camera application implies that it is running Mango, because such an arrow is missing from current builds of the WP7 OS, but it is present in Mango. Of course, only time will tell whether HTC decides to go mainstream with this device, or if it is only a prototype that won’t see the light of day for quite some time.  Section: Web In an effort to eliminate the dissemination of western ideals into their country, Iran plans on having all of their citizens use a state-censored and completely internal internet within two years according to the country’s telecommunications chief. As it turns out, roughly 60% of the nation’s homes and businesses are expected to be on the localized internet much sooner than that. Iran sees this segregation from the rest of the world as a means to uphold Islamic values and block out any anti-government or independent thoughts from the country entirely. Whether or not the country’s efforts will succeed remains to be seen. Iran has recently seen a rapid growth anti-regime posts on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. The country is planning on implementing the new internet alongside the existing one for a period of time but will eventually make a full transition. To add insult to injury, the 11% of citizens who have internet access will also be forced a non-Microsoft OS along with an alternative to Google simply called “Oh, Justice.” It’s news like this that should make us appreciate the small privileges we take for granted in the good old US of A. Shin wants you to look at the bigger picture before purchasing the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or 8.9. I respect his honesty and willingness to share with the public his plans for the Galaxy Tab, but doing so will probably hurt the impending launch of the Galaxy Tab devices. According to the Wall Street Journal, Samsung plans to introduce the 4G LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab sometime later this year. While some customers may not be inclined to have to keep waiting for a 4G device, because 4G isn’t a major factor, some may patiently wait until it launches. In addition, Shin mentioned that the successor to the Samsung Galaxy S II will also be released sometime in the first half of 2012, and while that may be months away, it’s worth keeping in the back of your mind that Samsung is cooking up another smartphone in the Galaxy S III. Now, thanks to an HP document we have what could be the release date for the first WebOS tablet: June 12. The date comes from an HP QuickSpecs paper acquired by PreCentral. The document covers a lot of the information we already know, like the color (glossy black), the front-facing camera (1.3MP), the WebOS software, and all the buttons on the device. The new information is at the bottom of the page you see above. It reads: Worldwide — Version 1.0 — June 12, 2011
If true, we’re less than two weeks away from the worldwide release of HP’s first WebOS tablet. That launch would be on the Sunday following WWDC and E3. That’s not a whole lot of time for HP to announce the date without getting swallowed up by news from Apple with iOS and Lion, Sony with the NGP and Nintendo with the next Wii. Hopefully we’ll find out if June 12 is the real date sometime soon. It’d be a shame for the release of the TouchPad to be overshadowed by the announcement of other hardware and software. Snakebyte is known for creating gaming peripherals such as controllers and headsets for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. At E3 2011 next month, snakebyte will debut a new kind of HDMI cable that is infused with Darbee Visual Presence technology. This technology is said to convert 2D images into 3D images. The new 3D images don’t require a new 3D TV or 3D glasses to view. Snakebyte’s press release makes sense of this technology in very fancy words. The HDMI cable “utilizes the neurological and biological principles that underlie human vision to add a three-dimensional component to two-dimensional images.” That basically means the HDMI cable gives images more depth that what human eyes are accustomed to. Snakebyte says the video resolution of the converted images will be 1080p HD at 60Hz. The cable can also be used with various devices such as game consoles, DVD players and computers. No price or release date has been set for the snakebyte 3D HDMI cable. When it does release, snakebyte will make it available around the world.  Section: Computers, Mobile Computers, Hardware Gigabyte’s entry to Computex is by way of two new products namely, the Gigabyte S1080 Windows 7 tablet and the Gigabyte M2432 Booktop. Let’s take a look at the Gigabyte tablet first. It’s a 10-inch Windows 7-powered device running on a 1.66GHz dual-core Intel Atom N550 CPU and loaded with 2GB of RAM, 320GB of HDD, GMA 3150 graphics with VGA output, Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0. The tablet also sports a 1.3MP front-facing camera, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, Ethernet, and SD card reader. One simple way of looking at this tablet is by considering it as a new netbook minus the keyboard.  Moving now to the second tablet announced by Gigabyte, we have the M2432 Booktop featuring a Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost 2.0. It also sports a 14-inch LED backlit display with a 1366x768 resolution, integrated Intel HD 3000 GPU, USB 3.0, THX sound, multi-touch trackpad and chicklet keyboard. Staying true to its teaser, the new Asus product which is now officially called - the Padfone is about to break the rules. Specifically the rule that a tablet and a phone should not be together. By together we mean physically. But then, Asus just broke that unspoken rule and introduced - the Padfone. So what are we looking at here? According to Asus, the Padfone is simply the convergence of the smartphone and tablet. The Padfone is composed of a regular tablet and smartphone the docks inside it. Now, once the phone is docked inside the tablet, it doubles up as a charger as well. And since the phone is loaded with a 3G SIM, the tablet can then use this for Internet connectivity. Sounds like a pretty cool device to have, right? Gathering what Asus has shared with the folks at Computex 2011, the Padfone’s tablet part sports a 10.1-inch display while the phone part sports a 4.3-inch display. Both devices will run Android OS but as to what version, we still don’t know yet. Another cool thing about the Padfone is that all of the data stored on the smartphone is accessible on the tablet’s display. Of course, the interface will be tweaked and enhanced to fit the larger display of the tablet part.  Section: Communications, Mobile, Computers, Mobile Computers We had told you over the weekend that the Android 3.1 Honeycomb update for the Eee Pad Transformer was expected to come available this week. And well, it looks like it has, though truth be told—at this time it has come available unofficially. That being said, if you are sporting a Transformer and cannot wait any longer to get 3.1, hit the via link below and begin the update process. - 1. Extract EP101_SDUPDATE.zip from the above .tar file (download available on the Android Central forums)
- 2. Place it on your SD card
- 3. Make sure the Transformer is plugged in or has at least a 50% battery charge.
- 4. Power off
- 5. Press the volume down key and power key at the same time and continue to depress both until you notice a ROM Boot screen that advises you to press the volume up key within 5 seconds to start the ROM update process.
- 6. Press the volume up key and the unit will update and reboot. It should take about 3~5 minutes
- 7. After a reboot, a user notification should arrive in five minutes or so that the docking station has a firmware update available to version 0209. Please follow the instructions and update the docking station and then complete another reboot. The 0209 firmware offers improved typing speeds, mouse tracking and USB compatibility.

 Section: Business News, Web, Online Music/Video  It looks like that Lady GaGa promotion was a huge success for Amazon, which is strange to say when you consider it cost them nearly $3.2 million dollars. The numbers are coming by way of Billboard, who have it figured like this;
Here’s the math: For every unit it sells at 99 cents, Amazon will lose about $7.40, according to Billboard’s calculation. At $7.40 per unit and 430,000 units (10,000 shaved off total digital sales to account for some sales of the deluxe edition), the Gaga-related loss comes to $3.18 million.
Of course, while they may have lost money when you consider it selling a Lady GaGa album, however in the same respect what they have really done is put their Cloud Drive and Cloud Player in the eyes of that many more people. And hey, but those estimates, there are nearly 430,000 people with Cloud Drive and Cloud Player access just because of the Lady GaGa sale. Granted, some likely had that from previous purchases, but in the end—it is still safe to say that there are plenty more who now know about Amazon MP3 in general. Of course, the cloud based storage lockers are just kicking off now and people are going to soon have to pick a favorite. Will they go with Amazon, Google or the yet to be announced offering from Apple. Me personally, so far my favorite is Google, however Apple could change that. The latest emulator apps were all from developer yongzh and are the ones that most if not all have been using (or at least have heard of). The emulators included Nesoid, Snesoid, Gensoid, N64oid, Ataroid, Gearoid, GBCoid and Gameboid. Of course, this follows the removal of the banning of a few Sega emulators last month. That being said, thanks to sideloading on Android, there is still the option to download and run emulator apps. And in this case, yongzh has since moved his apps over to SlideMe where for a limited time they will be free. Of course, you will still need to find some ROM’s to actually use them.  Section: Communications, Mobile, Computers, Mobile Computers A few weeks back we saw what appeared to be the pricing for the HP TouchPad with Walmart and as of today it looks like there are some details in terms of availability. Granted, these are not yet official from HP, however they seem to follow suit with what we have been seeing in the past. That being said, these latest availability details include Walmart and OfficeMax and have arrived by way of a tipster of PreCentral. In terms of Walmart, it looks like select locations will begin receiving inventory and product displays sometime in the first week of June and then the tablets will go on sale sometime closer to the middle or end of June. In terms of OfficeMax, this one is coming a bit later as compared to Walmart, however according to the leaked documents OfficeMax should have the TouchPad available on July 17th. And interestingly enough, the OfficeMax docs make mention of both a 3G capable and 4G capable TouchPad. In other words, maybe we will see a TouchPad 4G come available with AT&T alongside the Veer 4G smartphone. In fact, one company has already gone official and released their first official press release, ViewSonic. And the tablet or tablets? They have two actually, the previously leaked ViewPad 7x, the one which was touted as the first 7-inch Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet. Pretty much everything that we told you about this Android tablet came true. Feature include an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, HSPA+, 7-inch LED capacitive touchscreen display, DLNA support, SRW TruMedia, front and back camera and HDMI port. Expect the ViewPad 7x to be released sometime this June.  The other ViewSonic tablet is the ViewPad 10Pro which you can easily guess is a 10-inch tablet. This tablet is pretty interesting for the simple reason that it dual-boots between Android 2.2 and the new Windows 7 Pro OS. It packs in an Intel Oak Trail Z670 1.5GHz processor, 32GB storage, 1080p video playback, and a 3500mAh battery pack. Google recently redesigned the mobile web version of Google Maps so that it could mimic the desktop version more closely. It’s a nice alternative for anyone who doesn’t want to use the Google Maps app, or in the case of iOS devices, don’t have access to the app. Google doesn’t appear to be stopping there because someone may have accidently stumbled upon an entirely new Google homepage for mobile devices. An iPhone user sent screenshots to Phone Arena of a Google homepage we haven’t seen before. The user claims that after viewing the page for a while, it reverted back to normal. The changes are more than cosmetic. The changes seem to optimize the desktop version of Google’s homepage for mobile devices. The words “Images”, “Places”, and “News” on the mobile page have been replaced by colorful icons. It’s a nice touch, but there’s more. There’s another option on the page called “Apps.” When touched, this page showcases some popular Google applications such as YouTube, Google Maps and Google Talk in a manner that is similar to the Android menu. On the surface it appears that Google intends to make its services easier to access from the browser.
