Whirlpool reported net earnings available to common shareholders were up 141% to $164 million or $2.13 per share compared to $68 million or $0.91 per share in the year ago period.

    Heavy equipment manufacturer Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) released their quarterly earnings numbers this morning prior to the opening bell. The company reported net income attributable to common shareholders of $233 million or $0.36 per share compared to $112 million or $0.19 in last year's corresponding quarter.

    A former Moody’s executive said that Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) had hid the information about their collaboration with Paulson & Co. Eric Kolchinsky, a former team managing director at Moody’s, said, “I did not know that and I'm fairly sure that my staff did not know either."
