TechnologyTell Review: AAXA P450 Micro Projector and more

TechnologyTell Review: AAXA P450 Micro Projector

As fun it is to go out and see a movie in the theaters on opening night, making a habit of it tends to get expensive. Real expensive. Plus, you have to deal with parking, people, and a bad seat if you don't arrive early enough.

Thankfully, the internet abounds with movies and TV shows you can stream directly to televisions, computers, and mobile devices. Besides, at home you can make any seat the best seat in the house. But if you want to pair that movie-theater atmosphere with personal creature comforts, you'll appreciate a projector.

It doesn't matter if you already own a great TV. Projectors evoke a unique sense of awe, especially when you throw an image even bigger than your flat panel telly. And when they're compact enough to move easily, almost any blank surface can be a movie screen.

Design & Connectivity

When it compares to mobile gadgets, such as smartphones, the AAXA P450 micro projector is on the upper end of being considered palm- or pocket-sized. But then when you think about the common projectors one has ever been around – classrooms, conference rooms, seminars – it's pretty darn small. By itself, you can safely tuck the AAXA P450 micro projector in a bag or backpack for carrying.

AAXA P450 micro projector contents

See how the accessories take up more space than the P450?

This projector fits in one hand and is also very light. In fact, the included power brick and cable weigh about as much, at slightly more than half the size. The AAXA P450 micro projector also comes with VGA cable, AV cable, tripod, and a remote. Toss in a short HDMI cable, and suddenly the projector is far easier to pack than all the accessories!

One thing to be careful with is the array of rubber feet. They excel at keeping the P450 in place on surfaces; they're even better at plucking off with a gentle nudge. Even though the threaded hole on the bottom opens up many mounting options, it's still convenient to set the projector flat when you can. Don't lose them.

With exception of the top, each side of the AAXA P450 micro projector is ventilated. All of the ports and switches are interspersed around three sides, but with clear labeling. It doesn't matter much if you have little experience with projectors. The AAXA P450 auto-detects inputs and practically sets itself up.

Palm-sized and very convenient to move around

If you need to switch inputs or make settings adjustments, both the on-board and remote buttons click well and are effective. Just make sure the remote is aiming in the general direction of the projector for the best response.

The menu system for the AAXA P450 is simple to understand once you spend a few minutes poking around. There are adjustments for color, brightness, and contrast as well as…

T-Mo is the last of the carrier big four to get a piece of the Galaxy Tab S action

Galaxy Tab S 10.5As much as we appreciate the way T-Mobile's no-contract "UnCarrier" policy has revised (for the better) how service providers on the whole do business, there's no hiding the fact Magenta is hardly without a flaw.

For one thing, T-Mo's LTE tablet portfolio tends to always be one step behind Verizon or AT&T's lineups. Case in point, probably Samsung's all-time best Android slate rolled out with LTE support on Big Red and Ma Bell…

20 years of Stephen Hawking, with many thanks to Intel

When it comes to scientist celebrities, Bill Nye and Neil Degrasse Tyson likely come to mind first. Both of them have been very public as of late on important topics of human-generated climate change, evolution, and science in education. Each have guest-starred on the hit television show, The Big Bang Theory, and Bill Nye even had his (brief) moment in the spotlight on Dancing With the Stars.

Of course, we can't forget Stephen Hawking (also guest-starred on The Big Bang Theory), who very

Microsoft Lumia 1030 tipped for early 2015 launch with beastly 50 MP camera

Lumia 1030Microsoft has long been rumored to have a revolutionary Lumia smartphone in the pipeline, endowed with some sort of Kinect-like "3D Touch" technology. But all recent signs seem to point to Redmond having abandoned the "McLaren" project.

At the very least, the flagship was put on hold, with a slightly less groundbreaking "hero" device eyed to carry on Lumia 1020's baton. A fairly advanced Lumia 1030 prototype reportedly posed for…

Samsung Galaxy S6 to be joined by curved S6 Edge early next year

samsung-galaxy-s6-conceptDesperate for a change of pace after disheartening Galaxy S5 sales and lukewarm Note 4 critical reception, Samsung is said to be working on "Project Zero." This undertaking should see the Android kings rethink their mobile strategy as a whole, and give birth to a new breed of super-phones.

Though technically top-secret, the program's details have started trickling out to the…

Verizon launches Red LG G3 for World AIDS Day

LG G3

Verizon and LG have partnered to launch the Red LG G3 to create awareness on World AIDS day. The handset features a blazing red color, but other than that, it's exactly identical to the standard LG G3 which launched earlier this year. We've seen several companies promoting their products in Red to create awareness, Apple has done it, and even many game developers as well. As for the RED LG G3, the purchase is also paired with a free LG G Pad, provided you sign up a contract with the Big Red.

HTC One M9 speculation calls for 5.5-inch QHD screen, 16 MP OIS camera

HTC-One-M9-ConceptI guess it's that time of year again, with the big fall releases well behind us and Christmas way too close for mobile big kahunas to even consider further 2014 product intros. It's time we start digging into next year flagships, relying on "insiders" and seemingly well-connected "sources" to throw us a juicy bone while we play the irritating, age-old waiting game.

HTC is perhaps the OEM we look forward to seeing in action…

Not again: Android 5.0 updates for HTC One M8, M7 Google Play Editions delayed

HTC-Android-LollipopIt looks like Google and HTC aren't ready to quit playing games with our hearts yet, and the stock Android-running versions of the One M7 and M8 are still stuck on KitKat. Mo Versi, the HTC official that's tried (and failed) to keep us posted every step of the way, once again took to Twitter to disclose the ominous news of the latest delay.

Interestingly enough, Versi…
