TechnologyTell Review: House of Marley Liberate BT speaker and more

TechnologyTell Review: House of Marley Liberate BT speaker

As much as I love most of my speakers and headphones, sometimes it's easy to tire of all the plastic and polymers. That's why devices, such as the HTC M8 and Apple products, are popular. That metal body gives a little more life and a premium feel to it.

The House of Marley is all about good feelings, which is why most all of their products are made with natural materials. Coupled with great audio hardware and affordable pricing, and you've got some great speakers, right? Well read on and find out!

Design & Connectivity

The House of Marley Liberate BT Speaker is smaller than what online photos make it seem, but that doesn't take away from how cool it looks and feels. There's something about the combination of naked fabric, wood, and metal that surpasses what you get from speakers made of standard polycarbonate or thermoplastic polyurethane. The Liberate speaker definitely wins out by having less total syllables.

Even the packaging is made of recycled material

The construction of material is tight and form-fitting. The wrapped fabric has zero wiggle room, and none of the separate parts are loose whatsoever; pride in craftsmanship certainly shines through. As for the shape, the trapezoidal House of Marley Liberate BT speaker is easy to hold and sits quite nicely. The slight upward tilt of the front speaker grille helps to disperse sound as much as catch your eye.

It's a pretty good looking speaker.

Rubberized buttons for power, Bluetooth, and volume dot the rear of the Liberate BT. The Bluetooth buttons doubles as play/pause while music is playing. You can check the manual if you like, but the operation is simple. Press-hold the Bluetooth button for pairing. Boom. Done. The power is the single-press kind to switch on and off.

Audio sounds indicate powering on/off and Bluetooth connection. They're kind of loud and volume adjustment doesn't work. As such, you wouldn't want to fiddle with it in any environment loathe for sudden bursts of noise.

It's got a great shape and handheld size

The House of Marley Liberate BT speaker has only two LED indicators. The one on the front, which highlights the logo, shows volume min/max and Bluetooth. The second one is this teeny thing right next to the Micro USB power input that glows when the speaker is charging. It's really easy to miss, especially if the speaker is facing you while plugged in.

If you hear a strange telephone-esque ring from the speaker, that's its way of letting you know the internal battery is running low. I swear the first time I heard it I thought it was someone's smartphone ringing. The Liberate BT speaker emits a few of these as a warning before it completely dies out and turns off. Thankfully, it saves on energy by automatically shutting itself off when inactive for over 15 minutes.

The House of Marley Liberate BT speaker has a built-in microphone, convenient for hands-free calling and conversations. However, the mic quality is only OK. Even with the volume all the way up, the Liberate BT speaker doesn't perform as well as some other speakers. It certainly doesn't have the same quality of pickup as…

8 Internet things that will help you Adult in 2015

There's just one resolution worth having for 2015: Be less sh*tty at life than you were in 2014. Here's how!

1. Learn about your privacy policies

I'm not a big believer in the Internet ruining society with its corporate sharing of personal info and unrestricted access into our daily minutia, but I am a believer in cyber stalking. My profession made me really good at learning things about people that you might think of as "inaccessible information" (lol), which means stalkers know how to do it too. Stay up-to-date on your social media's privacy policies or risk "casually running into" Peachfuzz Mustacheowitz, the guy you worked with at Target three years ago.

He can smell your scent for miles, so…

2. Take advantage of all the apps you're missing out on

There's nothing I hate more than finding out about the most awesome app three years after its creation. One time I screamed out loud because Ex-Boyfriend told me about the Starbucks payment app well after the app had gone mainstream. Like, FRAT GUYS WERE USING IT, ALREADY. I'm a Basic Bitch, so this late-to-the-party feeling did not sit well with me.

Every time your life shuffles around a little bit– e.g. you open a new credit card, start traveling a lot, or start investing– make it a point to check your app store for an app that might make the transition a little easier. Since I started doing all of these things, I've created two full folders of helpful apps without which I could not function. Don't miss out on what's good in 2015.

3. Reallocate your…

In ominous twist, Microsoft pulls Lumia 735 from US website

Lumia 735Uh-oh, this can't be good. In fact, it's likely really, really bad. The Nokia Microsoft Lumia 735, which we were pretty certain was headed to Sprint and Verizon stateside at the very least, has just disappeared from Redmond's US website.

Listed as coming soon since September, the budget-friendly, mid-range selfie soldier may have encountered some cataclysmic production…
