Barnes & Noble could be launching 2 Nook Colors this year

Amazon has an event planned for next week to presumably announce the Kindle tablet, but Barnes & Noble won’t sit idly by as that happens. It seems that Barnes & Noble is planning on releasing not one, but two new Nook Colors this year. According to The Digital Reader, Barnes & Noble is planning two Android-based tablet this year, codenamed Encore and Acclaim. Encore would likely be the successor to the current Nook Color. It would have the same 7-inch screen, but would be updates in terms of specs. It would likely retail for the same $249 price, with the…

Dish Network takes jabs at Netflix, ponders streaming-only service

Earlier today, Dish Network announced the Blockbuster Movie Pass. This is a service that will be offered to all Dish Network subscribers on October 1 for $10 a month. The Blockbuster Movie Pass isn’t necessarily a move that is only targeting Netflix. What Dish Network is offering could adversely affect other cable and satellite providers as well. However, that didn’t stop Dish Network from taking a few swings at Netflix during its press conference. As you no doubt recall, Netflix is spinning off its DVD business as a separate business called Qwikster. Qwikster, though owned by Netflix, won’t tie into…

Amazon holding event in NYC on September 28, could be a tablet

Amazon has sent out invitations to an event in New York City on September 28, presumably to announce it’s new Kindle products. The invitation doesn’t lead much to speculation, but at least we know when to expect the announcement. The date will coincide with the rumors of the Amazon tablet, so keep your fingers crossed that it’ll be there. Whatever comes out of the event, we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we know. I’ll be hoping for some new e-ink devices, or at least some lower prices on the current models. Amazon will hopefully spend some…

Dish Network’s CEO Joe Clayton said the Blockbuster name didn’t mean much to Wall Street, but it still has strong ties to main street. Facebook is also getting a "Read" button

Yesterday, Facebook announced some changes to Open Graph that makes leaving Facebook to consumer content almost unnecessary. For example, we can now watch Hulu videos from within Facebook and listen to music services from MOG and Spotify. Reading is also a gigantic part of internet browsing and Facebook wants in on that too. Within the next couple weeks or so, Facebook will start flooding the internet with a “read” button that goes right alongside the popular “like” button. According to TechCrunch, the “read” button will differ from the “like” button in a significant way. When you “like” something, that specific…

BlackBerry PlayBook prices begin to fall in Canada

The BlackBerry PlayBook has played a significant role in weighing RIM down lately. The tablet just isn’t pulling its weight and are causing RIM’s shares to fall. RIM decided some price cuts were in order to increase PlayBook sales. We saw the first instance of this in a Rogers employee sale which knocked the 16GB PlayBook price down to $249. Now it appears other stores in Canada are doing something similar for regular customers. The online Canadian Best Buy, Future Shop and Staples sites have all discounted the PlayBook by $100, bringing the retail price to $399. Best Buy and…

Its been big news lately for the music streaming service Spotify, not only have they announced integration with Facebook (along with countless others), but they have also recently topped the 2 million paid subscriber milestone. So what next? Well, it looks like Spotify has made a shift in accepting new users. In the past, an invitation had been required to sign up and get a free account. Facebook users hate Timeline already

Earlier today during Facebook’s f8 developers conference, Mark Zuckerberg announced a major change for Facebook user profiles. Over the next few weeks, Facebook will roll out timeline to everyone. Timeline was created to solve what Facebook considered a major problem with shared content as it aged. The problem is that everything except for fairly recent posts get buried on everyone’s Facebook profile. Facebook wanted to come up with a way to make all the information that was shared over the years easily accessible. It’s an interesting concept, but a lot of Facebook users are crying foul. The comments section under…
