Less than two weeks ago, RIM came up with a plan to boost sales of the BlackBerry PlayBook. In addition to releasing a big update for the tablet that includes much desired features, RIM would also work with retailers by offering promotions for the PlayBook. According to a tip to TUAW, Apple will kill off the popular iPod Shuffle and iPod Classic mp3 players this year. While the Classic wouldn’t be a huge surprise, we’re a bit skiddish on believing the Shuffle will go the way of the dodo. Evernote announced the acquisition of Skitch a short while back and almost immediately rolled support for Skitch into their Evernote app. And well, it looks like they are continuing to roll-out additional updates. Amazon today announced its new tablet, the Kindle Fire. The Kindle Fire’s OS is a heavily modified Android, so it makes sense that the browser is also heavily modified. Packed in the Amazon Fire is a whole new web browser dubbed Silk. Amazon calls Silk a “split browser” which means that much of the processing is done in the cloud. Amazon has lowered the price of the original Kindle yet again. This time it comes with what looks like the most drastic design change yet. The new Kindle will be available today, selling for just $79. Amazon’s newest e-ink Kindle loses the keyboard and five-way directional pad to replace it all with a touch screen á la the Barnes & Noble Simple Touch Reader. Bloomberg spilled the beans a bit early in regards to the Kindle Fire. About a half hour before the Amazon.com press conference was to start, Bloomberg revealed the Kindle Fire will be sold for $199. Supplying 3D glasses for movie theaters has become too expensive for Sony Pictures Entertainment. According to Hollywood Reporter, Sony will stop picking up the tab for 3D glasses on May 1, 2012.
