I remember watching the Today Show about a decade ago. They were hyping a huge innovation in transportation to be revealed after the break. As a much younger, more optimistic gadget enthusiast, my expectations soared.

This could be one thing and one thing only: a jetpack. Jetpacks for everyone. Safe and efficient jetpacks. No more traffic. Heck, no more need for roads. This was it. I was about to witness history. My life would never be the same.

To be fair, my life never was the same, but not really in the way I hoped. For one thing, I didn't get too excited about big announcements anymore. Expecting jet packs and seeing a couple of dorky scooters was a disappointment I never quite got over.
