When you're in a hurry, it can be a real pain waiting for your devices such as your smartphone, smartwatch or tablet to juice up. Things get even worse when the device in question has almost no battery life left.

Considering how often most of us take a peek at our smartphones throughout the day — according to Tecmark that's 1,500 times per week, or 215 times per day — our batteries can get pretty low. Some people deal with this by charging their phone multiple times throughout the day, whether that be in the office, at home or while they're out and about.

That's all fine and dandy when there are plenty of outlets available. That plan goes to hell in a hand basket when the only way to charge your device is through a nearby USB port, which takes forever. You'll find yourself sitting there, waiting for your phone to charge, wishing you were out on the town, but you can't because you're stuck. It happens to the best of…

Farm Tech: how America's farmers are going open-source

farm siloThe traditional American farm, for most of our country's history, has been mostly devoid of sleek machines and space-age chemicals, focusing instead on what can be accomplished with little more than bare hands. In the grand scheme of things, heavy equipment and space-age chemicals are a relatively recent development. While this classic image lovably hearkens back to our shared past and reminds us how essential farms and their fruitful output have been to the economy, there's a growing indication that even the most experienced farmers will have to face: farming is gradually going high-tech.

These days, farmers are finding that their old-fashioned tools are no competition for the efficiency and ease of their high-tech counterparts. While this has plenty of obvious advantages, the technology also creates potential obstacles. When a particular machine or vehicle responsible for maintaining the farmland experiences a malfunction, it can take several days to have the proper technician come to the farm. The resulting lost time has the potential to devastate smaller farms for whom every minute counts.

Farmers: Natural Engineers

Most of us regard farms with a healthy amount of romanticism and nostalgia, and while there are plenty of rustic farmers out there still, the rise of high-technology in farming reveals a world in transition. It's enough to beg the question: is technology-aided work any less rewarding than its brute-force counterpart? The answer, so far, seems to be no.

Part of it has to do with most farmers being, at a fundamental level, DIY…

Deal alert: No-contract Sony Xperia Z for T-Mobile at $200

Sony Xperia ZDespite what the name suggests, Sony's OG Xperia Z isn't three whole generations behind the times. It's a classic, and we bet…

Americans spend almost five hours a day noodling with their smartphones

ways_to_save_your_marriage_smartphone

If so, look up some relationship advice on your smartphone.

Every day I get on the subway and everyone has their nose buried in a phone. I walk down the street and, again, everyone has their nose buried in a phone, or are blabbing away with someone, somewhere, about nothing urgent. I know, I know, cliched argument, hey you kids get off my lawn, etc.

But it got me…

Microsoft sets up MWC 'ride' for March 2, low-end affair predicted

Microsoft MWC

Microsoft is ready to take on Android's front-line soldiers, it seems, although most likely not with a new flagship Lumia. Not yet, that is, given Windows 10 still needs fine-tuning and pre-release testing. In the meantime, budget mobile audiences are thirsty for novelties, and Redmond is gearing up to unveil one or two at the Mobile World Congress.
