Windows Phone 8.1 first update ready for download over-the-air

Contrary to what you think, we don't only care about iOS and Android software updates. We're also taking note of Windows Phone updates, especially now that the Nokia mobile division is part of Microsoft and that it will be known officially as Microsoft Mobile. For Windows Phone 8.1 users, the first update for your device is now ready. It's actually the Windows Phone 8.1 Preview for Developers and can be downloaded over WiFi.

Two new Windows Phone device manufacturers revealed

Up until now only a handful of companies have worked with Microsoft to release Windows Phone handsets but Thursday, two additional manufacturers were revealed. During the Qualcomm reference designs and Wireless Innovations Summit, VP of Microsoft Greater China, Zhang Yongli, announced that Blu and Amagatarai K-Touch would be coming out with Windows Phone devices.

Sony 4K Ultra HD Media Player now up for pre-order, arriving this July for $700

My significant other and I are on the lookout for a new TV. We want at least a 40-inch Smart LED TV that can play hi-res movies. (Blu-ray!) While I know there are so many models available in the market, we can't decide on which one. I think we'll wait for the prices to go down some more or wait for Black Friday. Or if we can't wait, maybe we'll just buy this Roku-like device from Sony. The Sony FMP-X10 Ultra HD Media Player is a simple media player but it can save and play 4K-res movies.

Google Apps Gmail will add end-to-end encryption

Google Gmail will include end-to-end encryption

Through a partnership with Zix, Google will soon include end-to-end encryption in its commercial Gmail service. Even though Gmail already encrypts and secures messages when they are bouncing between its servers, they usually become less secure upon heading to a different service. To fix that, the Google Apps Message Encryption (GAME) service is being established and will allow people to receive encryption options for $35 per year.
