One great aspect about attending CES for a week is that you get to hear a lot of audio products in action. The only real problem is that you don't really get to listen to them, since there is so much noise and bustle all around. When I met with the team at the Libratone booth, I wanted more and louder, but without all the surrounding noise. So like any awesome company, they let me borrow one. As a larger sibling to the Zipp, the Libratone Live is dwarfed only by the Lounge. So does the Live meet expectations, based on my experience with the Zipp? Pretty much. Design The Libratone Live is sort of shaped like a vertical Toblerone package, yet only as tall as a short lamp. Roughly. I would consider the design to be minimalist, in the sense that the speaker has one shape, one button, one handle, one cover, one switch, and two ports. It's a clean-looking, functional speaker. Rear ports. Nothing fancy. True to Libratone's ways, the Live is dressed in a wool cover. The one they happened to send me was black, but there are other options for those who want color out of their color. Buy another cover and swap them to your heart's content. It's easy to think that having a clothed speaker wouldn't fit so well in modern homes. The fact that they do is a testament to how accustomed we've become to the standard, somewhat stale speaker style. The wool cover is how the Libratone speaker blends in and becomes part of a room's furnishing. It's pretty cool. The speakers within the Libratone Live are set with the primary ones facing out, and lateral ones on the sides angling back. The best positioning is to set the Live parallel to a wall, about a hand's length away. The rear/angled speakers will reflect off that wall to capture more of the entirety of the musical soundstage. Rubber plug. Goes in the rear hole. ^_^ If you don't like shiny metal, the good news is that the handle isn't that noticeable until you're peering at the speaker from the side. It's a good handle with room enough for two hands to grip and hold; it amuses me to watch the kids huff and lug it around as I dictate positioning. Haha. Because of the weight and lack of internal battery, the Libratone Live is a speaker you make a home for. So long as the sweet spot is within range of an outlet, you're good to go. As great as it sounds outside, it's kind of a pain to run extension cords just for that purpose. So indoor movies and music it is, then. This speaker features AirPlay and DLNA wireless connectivity, which is a slam-dunk for Apple devices. If you intend to connect with PC or Android devices, it takes separate steps or apps. After all the fussing around I did while testing out the Libratone Zipp, I decided to stick to good, old fashioned audio cables. The Libratone Live has one such port, guarded by a wee rubber nubbin of a plug. I'm extremely puzzled as to why it's even necessary. Once powered on, the Libratone Live takes close to a minute go… Continue reading TechnologyTell Review: Libratone Live Wireless Speaker The post TechnologyTell Review: Libratone Live Wireless Speaker appeared first on GadgeTell. No matter how advanced or expensive an organization's cybersecurity software is, criminals seem to be able to get around that security without much trouble. The 2014 State of Cybercrime Survey from PcW has found that hackers are breaking into US businesses at an unprecedented rate despite the emphasis that businesses now have on security. PcW gathered its data from 500 executives at companies, law enforcement agencies, and the government. So apparently, HTC isn't done with the One series yet. After the HTC One M8, we've heard about the HTC One M8 Ace, HTC One M8 Prime, a ceramic version, and the One M8 in various colors of red, blue, pink, and even a 24-carat gold. After all these variants, HTC has yet to introduce the "Plus" and "Advance" smartphones. The Prime is expected to be unveiled in the fall as an upgraded version of the One (M8). Samsung may be releasing a 7-inch smarphone in the United States, even though the device was originally expected to be an exclusive to South Korea. An FCC report from Wednesday shows a label for a Samsung product that is using the same number as the 7-inch phone was in South Korea, meaning that a US launch is at least being planned for. It's not yet known how consumers will actually respond to a 7-inch phone with a premium price tag, especially since 6-inch "phablets" have even struggled at times in the United States.
