It looks like the folks over at Rovio Mobile have begun teasing the latest edition of Angry Birds, which is dubbed Angry Birds Space. The teasers have come in the form of a short but sweet 20 second video which was posted on YouTube (see below) and also a newly launched website. The website does not offer all that much except for an image of the moon with a slingshot and reads; “One small fling for a bird. One quantum leap for birdkind.”
That being said, the Angry Birds Space game is set to debut on March 22nd and if it is anything like the Original, Seasons or Rio — we suspect that March 22nd will end up being a day of diminished productivity. Otherwise, nothing specific has been mentioned in terms of pricing or which platforms would be the lucky ones for launch. Via [Angry Birds Space] and [Yahoo! Games]
It looks like Archos has quietly unveiled the latest in their budget Android tablet lineup, the device is the Arnova 8b G2 and it will arrive running Android 2.3 Gingerbread. So far there has not been anything offered in terms of an official price or release date, however based on the price of the original Arnova 8 G2 tablet, we suspect the 8b G2 will arrive somewhere around the $150 price point. Otherwise, lets get back to what we know for sure — the specs. The Arnova 8b G2 will bring goodies to include the following; - 8-inch (800 x 600) capacitive multi-touch display
- Single-core 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor
- 512MB RAM
- 4GB or 8GB of internal storage
- microSD card slot
- Front-facing camera
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g
- Measurements: 8.8 x 6.1 x 0.5 inches
- Weight: 1.1 pounds
And as mentioned earlier in the post, the tablet will arrive with Gingerbread however given the design of the tablet itself — no hardware buttons for Home, Back, Menu and Search — there has been some speculation that an update to Ice Cream Sandwich will arrive. With that, the other item worth mentioning is the support for the Archos 3G USB stick which will allow for on-the-go mobile connectivity (for an additional price). Via [PC Launches] and [Liliputing] Taking a respite from the slew of Android tablets and smartphones that it has been releasing over the past few months, Samsung has announced the availability of its new line of advanced SD and microSD cards. We have seen February 21st pop up as the release date for the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 update a few times in the past several weeks. And well, it looks like the 21st has come up one more time. The latest is coming by way of a leaked image that rather clearly states the release date. In fact, the image reads that the “BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 launches Feb. 21st.” Of course, leaked images have not always been entirely accurate in the past. That said, this all seems official enough, however we are going to wait until we hear something from RIM or to the time when OS 2.0 is downloading on the PlayBook we have sitting in the GadgeTell offices before we get super excited. HTC took some time on Friday to announce it will provide Ice Cream Sandwich updates to a few more of its phones that are currently available in North America. Verizon, Rogers and Bell customers can expect more specific updates on when the rollouts will being within a few weeks time. For now, HTC is only confirming which non-Sensation smartphones will receive the update. For Verizon, customers can expect the HTC Thunderbolt, HTC Rhyme, the Droid Incredible 2 and the HTC Rezound to get Ice Cream Sandwich. An update for the HTC Raider is going to be pushed out to customers on Rogers and Bell in Canada. Unlike the Sensation update, HTC didn’t provide a timetable for these other smartphones. Let’s just hope HTC’s customers won’t have to wait as long as Motorola’s. Via [HTC Facebook Page]
While it’s true Microsoft already has a music service tied to its Zune brand, it may be looking to take another stab at the market. This time Microsoft is rumored to be taking a more modern approach to music consumption. According to CNET, Microsoft is having discussions with unnamed record labels to assist it in starting a new music streaming service. Should the rumors prove accurate, Microsoft will debut the new service on its Xbox and Windows Phone platforms sometime this year. A specific, yet unannounced Windows Phone is believed to introduce this new initiative. HTC and Nokia are rumored to be two of the manufacturers that may take part in creating the phone. Nokia seems to be the most likely candidate considering its reliability on Microsoft. HTC is also rumored to be starting its own streaming music service, so it’s hard to imagine HTC working on a potential rival. Via [CNET]
