Looks like Verizon Wireless is offering a free Galaxy Nexus or Droid RAZR for "loyal" and currently eligible for upgrade customers

We are not all that certain how Verizon Wireless is choosing to send these out, however it looks like some “loyal” and currently eligible for upgrade customers have begun getting some emails with offers for nicely discounted phones. And we do mean nicely discounted. For example, one of the offers seems to be a free Galaxy Nexus. That means a $299 discount, which according to the email breaks down as a $269.99 “exclusive” discount and another $30 “loyalty” discount. But regardless of how the price breaks down — it is free in the end. Well, free on another two-year agreement. Wonder how many would be interested in grabbing one of those? Me personally, I just cancelled a line with Verizon on Friday afternoon and can say with almost certainty — if they had offered me this I would have gladly stayed. Oh well, if you are interested and have not seen one of these emails, a call to customer service may be in order. After all, what is the worse they can say, no.

This Chrome browser extension will let you download APK files from the Android Market — to your desktop [Sideloading]

While we are fairly certain this one is not going to last, we will mention in here in hopes that anyone who wants it will be able to grab it. That being said, it looks like an Android developer has released a Chrome browser extension that will let you download Android APK files from the Android Market without using a phone or tablet. Yup, once this browser extension is installed you can launch Chrome on your computer and download apps from the Android Market to your desktop. Sounds like a wonderful way for a person to do some sideloading. Not to mention, especially nice for those who want an app that is only available in the Android Market and using a tablet without Android Market access. That said, this one can be found at the code kiem com link below. And go, go get it now before it goes away.

Sprint board of directors shoots down CEO's plan to buy MetroPCS

While everyone’s attention was focused on AT&T’s takeover of T-Mobile U.S.A., Sprint was busy hammering out its own buyout deal with MetroPCS. According to CNBC, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse’s plan was to purchase MetroPCS for $8 billion in cash and stock. However, apparently hours before the deal was to be made final, Sprint’s board decided to scrap everything.

Sprint’s foiled takeover plans is going to be a hot topic going into next week. No one knows for sure why Sprint’s board did not back up its CEO. It’ll be even more interesting to find out why the board waited until the last minute to overrule Hesse as opposed to when Sprint first showed an interest in MetroPCS.

If the deal had gone through, MetroPCS shareholders would have owned around a third of the combined Sprint and MetroPCS.

Looks like Samsung is going to be unveiling the 10.1″ Galaxy Note during MWC

Image via: mobile.se

We have heard the rumors about the Galaxy Note 10.1, and we even got a good take from our very own Jeremy about why he doesn’t want one. And well, while Samsung has yet to make this announcement, judging from this sign that was spotted under cover at Mobile World Congress — that announcement is only a matter of time. That being said, there are some missing details still, for one the pricing and release date. But perhaps more to the point, the specs. We do know that it will have a 10.1 inch display and support for the S Pen. And otherwise we can probably assume that it will arrive running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the same as the currently available Galaxy Note phablet.

Samsung goes official with the Galaxy Tab 2 series tablets

Aside from the Galaxy Beam projector phone, Samsung is also bringing the new Galaxy Tab 2 series tablets at the Mobile World Congress. These tablets were actually announced earlier this month and Samsung just want to make sure that we didn’t ignore them since the tablets seem to have nothing much to new offer. Well, except of course for the fact that the Galaxy Tab 2 series tablets will be running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Aside from that, the specs of the tablets are pretty much what previous Samsung Galaxy Tabs have. Anyway, let us remind you also that the Galaxy Tab 2 series tablets will be available in both 7- and 10.1-inch screen display, both 3MP rear-facing camera and VGA front-facing camera, 1GHz dual-core processors, HSPA+ 21Mbps 850/900/1900/2100, and the usual Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.
