Aqua Tek S could be the ultimate rugged iPhone 4/4S battery case and more

Aqua Tek S could be the ultimate rugged iPhone 4/4S battery case

Snow Lizard Products Aqua Tek SSnow Lizard Products is an accessory manufacturer that you probably haven’t of before that has a pretty cool iPhone case in the works.

The Aqua Tek S is a rugged case for the iPhone 4 or 4S. Snow Lizard Products claims it’s the first ever “battery powered, solar charged, rugged under water iPhone 4/4S case.” It takes the features we’ve seen in myriad other cases before and puts them all into one somewhat large iPhone case. The Aqua Tek S can withstand drops, and is waterproof up to 20 feet. The demo video shows an iPhone in the case being thrown into relatively deep snow and coming out in a working condition.

Technically, the Aqua Tek S doesn’t exist yet, though. Snow Lizard Products has the case up on Kickstarter, and is hoping to raise $75,000 by March 10 in order to make it happen. Normally the Aqua Tek S will cost $129.99, but a Kickstarter pledge of $100 will get you one. Assuming the project reaches it’s goal, of course. It looks like a pretty interesting case. If you have the need something to put your iPhone in while camping, skiing, or snorkeling and you don’t mind the extra bulk, this case could be just what you need. If not, I’d say it’s a bit overkill.

Samsung may have accidentally revealed the Galaxy Note 10.1

Yes, that’s not a typographical error. We mean a Galaxy Note 10.1 which Samsung may have accidentally revealed via the invitation to Samsung Developer Day at the upcoming Mobile World Congress. The mention of the Galaxy Note 10.1 appears right beside the Galaxy Note and two other Samsung phones which are scheduled to be launched during the event. What baffles us though is that the said event was meant for Samsung’s software development kit for the S Pen which as you may know is a feature of the Galaxy Note (pictured above). Was it an error on Samsung’s part to have included the Galaxy Note 10.1 on the invitation or is the tablet already in existence and is just waiting to be launched? Is a larger stylus-capable device in Samsung’s pipeline for this year? How about you, folks? Do you see yourself using a stylus pen on a 10-inch tablet? Anyway, we’ll have more about the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 once more information becomes available.

Samsung launches the Galaxy Tab 7.0 N, but only in Germany for now

It seems that Samsung is not just going to give up on its fight to ward off Apple and its legal pursuit against Samsung. One proof of this is the fact that with legal actions confronting it in Germany, this does not stop Samsung from releasing a new variant of the Galaxy Tab 7.0, this time bearing ” Plus N” on its name. Whether this is Samsung’s ploy to prevent an injuction coming its way courtesy of Apple or not, we can’t just ignore this new Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus N tablet. This new Android tablet will be available in two colors – pure white and metallic gray. Price varies depending on whether the tablet is Wi-Fi only edition costing around $657, or a 3G version which will sell for $749. Other features of the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus N include 7-inch display with 1024×600 resolutions, TouchWiz UX UI, GPS, Bluetooth, 3.2MP rear-facing camera, and 2MP front-facing camera, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, and 1GB of RAM. The tablet also supports microSD card and runs on a 4000 mAh batter. For its OS, the Android 3.2 Honeycomb will come pre-installed. Samsung did promise that the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus N will be upgraded to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 to be released on February 21st?

While we are not all that certain how many people are actually looking forward to this release, one thing is certain — it seems to be getting a fair amount of chatter. That being said, the PlayBook OS 2.0 release is a rather big update and for those who are sporting a PlayBook tablet, it should be a more than welcomed update. Anyway, with that being said, we have heard some rumors in terms of dates as to when RIM was planning to release the update and February 21st seems to keep popping up. Just like that, that date seems to have come into play once again. This latest mention is coming from the folks at N4BB who are reporting that they “have now heard more confirmation from our sources that February 21st is the expected release date.”

Back To The Future iPad game series gets a temporary price cut

While we try and leave the gaming coverage to the good folks at our sister site GamerTell, there are times when a game related item catches our fancy. And well, given some of us at GadgeTell like the simpler games, you know, the ones we can play on our tablets and smartphones — this one falls perfectly into that category. The game is Back To The Future for the iPad. More specifically, the Back To The Future series of games for the iPad — of which there are five in total.

Anyway, according to a recent posting over on the Telltale Games blog, it looks like the series has been discounted in price. Though we should clarify that this price cut will only stick around for a limited time. The pricing is as follows; BTTF Episode 1 is free with BTTF Episodes 2 through 5 coming in at $2.99. Lastly, for those who feel the need to know the discount, these games usually go for $6.99 each.

No Samsung, I don't want a Galaxy Note 10.1

Earlier today, an alleged invitation to Samsung’s Mobile World Congress Developer Day supposedly ousted the Galaxy Note 10.1. There was also a listing for a casting call for a commercial that “will show a Galaxy Note 10.1 used for education, financial planning, and art.” The commercial is believed to take place in southern California and requires a “teen student” to use the Galaxy Note 10.1. If this product is real, I can’t state enough how unnecessary it is.

Let’s just call out the Galaxy Note 10.1 for what it really is – a Galaxy Tab with a stylus. I for one am tired of Samsung debuting tablet after tablet with minimal changes outside of screen size. Think about it. Samsung already announced the Galaxy Tab 10.1, 7.7, 8.9 and the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. The Galaxy Tab 2 was also just announced this week. Does Samsung really think it’s a good idea to take the Galaxy Note, which hasn’t even proven itself to be a success, and super size it?

There’s a reason why Android tablets have been largely unsuccessful. Manufacturers keep releasing half baked and uninspired tablets instead of focusing on one or two tablets. If OEMs would just be patient and build a quality product, the tablet landscape would be much different. Samsung is making things worse by confusing the heck out of customers who could be staring at several tablets with the Galaxy moniker.

Samsung, I don’t know who told you styli are cool, but they’re not. Stop throwing money around and focus on quality, not quantity.

Charge, protect and light your Amazon Kindle with this "Solar Leather Lighted Cover for Kindle 4″

Every once in a while you find a gadget accessory that you simply must have. And well, while I am not really sure what this one will say about myself I will go on record as saying I need to pick up one of these “Solar Leather Lighted Cover for Kindle 4″ cases. Just as the name would imply, this is a cover for the latest-generation Kindle and it has a light and is powered by the sun. It looks like this has been kicking around Amazon for about a month or so, however that being said — it was new (and interesting) to me and I thought it may also be new (and interesting) for you. This case does not come cheap. In fact, it is priced at $79.99 which is $20 more expensive than the regular leather lighted cover from Amazon. Needless to say, you sometimes have to pay a bit more when it comes to additional features which in this case happens to be solar charging. With that, while I go and check my PayPal account to see what the currently available balance looks like I will leave you with this — the feature list;

  • The first Solar Lighted Cover for the Amazon Kindle E-reader in the market.
  • GREEN solar power with the eye catch leather cover integration.
  • It comes with durable solar panel and integrated solar charging circuit to reach the best system efficiency and collect renewable energy effectively for extending mobility.
  • The dual-charging (USB/solar) reserve battery greatly extends reading time, and powers a built-in LED reading lamp having the best illumination and coverage available for the Kindle. These features allow users to continue reading comfortably for as long as they wish, day and night, indoors and outdoors.
  • One touch releases and turns on the LED reading lamp.
  • Optionally the integrated reserve battery can convert and transfer its energy to the Kindle main battery and extend reading time.
  • Integrated solar panel collects and converts solar energy “on the go”. One hour under direct sunlight can provide up to 3 days reading time.
  • High efficient solar panel providing the fast charging to the Kindle
  • Eco solar charger with lightweight cover
  • Efficient solar charger with light
  • LED indicates battery power level and status of charging and discharging.
  • 3 month+ unplugged power, charge free your kindle
  • Double Illumination, best reading light coverage
