TechnologyTell Review: Nyrius Songo HiFi Bluetooth music receiver and more

TechnologyTell Review: Nyrius Songo HiFi Bluetooth music receiver

It can be very tempting to get caught up in the craze of audio upgrading. The latest speakers look great, can come in a variety of colors, and almost always have Bluetooth wireless. If you have an older system, it's that last feature that feels the most missed. Today's mobile lifestyle, with variety of sources to stream music, practically necessitates wireless connectivity.

But you don't have to trade out your powerful, beloved speaker system. A Bluetooth upgrade is an efficient and affordable way to enhance what you already own.

Design & Connectivity

The Nyrius Songo HiFi Bluetooth music receiver weighs in small, discreet, yet with a touch of style when you're looking at the top. But this is only after you remove all the residual glue from peeling back the sticker. Bad form! I hate unnecessary scratches as much as I dislike adhesive removal (it wasn't so terrible – thumbs rubbed it off and a few wipes with Pocket Toddy gave it proper polish).

All you need, power and audio cables.

If you took an Altoids tin and squashed it down to more of a square shape, then it and the Nyrius Songo would share similar form. The size is nice, which doesn't really matter that much once it's been connected to some speaker. The Nyrius Songo is tethered by power and audio output cables, so it's likely to blend in the background and be forgotten. As long a it works flawlessly, right?

What's cool about the Nyrius Songo is that it has an optical connection…

Verizon dispatches Android 5.0 Lollipop for HTC One M8

htc-one-m8-verizonAnd then there was one. Just one US carrier lazy or foolish enough (or both) to refuse its customers their HTC-given right to Lollipop smoothness. On the M8, we mean, first updated stateside by T-Mobile, then Sprint, and now Verizon. Bad AT&T!

Granted, Big Red was itself a little late to the party, but all's well when ends… relatively early. And since…

HTC 'keeps working' on its elusive first smartwatch, no new ETA offered

htc_smartwatchFor a typically very secretive company, HTC has been unusually candid about its smartwatch entry plans for the past year or so. As you'd expect from the architects of such phone beauts as the One M8 and M9, a lot of thought is put into the design of this "One Watch".

The same goes for its selection of…

HTC One M9 To Cost $599?

HTC-One-M9Not too long ago, HTC unveiled their latest flagship device, the HTC One M9, at the Mobile World Congress 2015. The information was revealed from the rules of the HTC One M9 sweepstakes where a user could just enter a chance to win the latest flagship device from the Taiwanese…

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet price revealed: €559 and up in Europe

Sony Xperia Z4 TabletJust when we thought Sony had a bona fide hit on its hands, and maybe Android's best shot at challenging Apple's dominance in the slate landscape, the Xperia Z4 Tablet went up for pre-orders in France.

That's obviously not the bad news. The bad news is the ludicrous "bounty" put on the 2K res-capable, 6.1 mm slim 10 incher. The "entry-level" configuration, sans 4G LTE…

Alcatel intros Pixi 3 phones and tablets, Hero 2+ phablet with Cyanogen OS

Alcatel Hero 2+Knowing Alcatel, and its typical "quantity over quality" M.O., it was obviously surprising to see the French mobile manufacturer keep the MWC 2015 announcements to a minimum. Even more uncharacteristic, the upper mid-range OneTouch Idol 3 handheld pair stood out from the crowd, albeit with a decidedly gimmicky feature.

Not to worry, though, as the traditional onslaught of interchangeable affordable gear continues in 3, 2,…

Gionee plays in the big leagues now, bringing 5.5 mm thin Elife S7 to MWC

Gionee Elife S7A bigger name in India than its own homeland of China, low-profile Shenzhen-based smartphone manufacturer Gionee made waves in recent years chiefly with affordable, uber-skinny gear. Remember the early 2014 world's thinnest handheld, the aptly dubbed Elife S5.5?

While you were looking elsewhere, Gionee broke that record again and lowered the slimness bar to 5.2 mm last fall, before realizing this quest was…
