Microsoft: No flagship Windows Phone planned until Win 10 rolls out and more

Microsoft: No flagship Windows Phone planned until Win 10 rolls out

Windows 10 mobileYou didn't really need psychic skills to anticipate yesterday's Windows 10-centric Microsoft event would be all about the platform's evolution on the PC. After all, computer users can already take a Technical Preview of 8.1's sequel for a spin, whereas mobile consumers… can't.

Still, Redmond has said time and time again it's…

HTC M9 Plus stars in its own covert photo shoot, not the same as M9

HTC M9 PlusNow, this is confusing. Just 48 hours or so after the upcoming HTC One M9, aka Hima, showed its familiar curves to Mr. Blurrycam, a separate HTC flagship phone makes its way in the rumor mill, with a set of even hazier pics.

Any chance we're looking at one and the same device? None whatsoever. The visual differences, while subtle to the untrained eye, are striking for us, as this alleged M9 Plus…

Rethinking photography (As a soulless millennial)

I rifled through my parents' basement earlier this week in search of something– I can't remember what– and stumbled upon the proverbial shoeboxes full of pictures. Rows of prints, stacks of Polaroids, and envelopes of negatives filled 10-or-so boxes buried behind the standard pile of old laptops and VCRs.

So, of course, I spent hours sitting on the cold cement floor aggressively flipping through each fistful of pictures, as ya do. And even though I've permanently flattened my once-round ass on that floor and given myself what I suspect is a slipped disk, I had a ton of fun digging through those musty boxes. I found crisp, colorful photos of my own chubby baby face as well as bent, discolored photos of my dad's days as a young pilot/Hawaiian surf bum.

What an incredible mustache.

Digging deeper, I found black-and-whites of my grandmother smiling on her honeymoon, a pint-sized version of my father riding a rocking horse in full cowboy gear, my mother leaning against her first car, hair blowing wildly in the wind, and my aunts and uncle dressed up in their front yard, ready for church and joyfully unconcerned with the camera at all. It was about here that I was overcome with…

Samsung Galaxy S6 unpacked early? Purported leak tips off full spec sheet

Galaxy S6 conceptAlthough a myriad of questionable "inside sources" and a slew of semi-reliable digital publications have slipped us a plethora of alleged intel on Samsung's "next big thing" lately, it's been no easy feat to piece the bits together.

After checking with a separate, independent, "trusted" source, BGR has done just that, even getting the privilege to check the Galaxy S6 out in the flesh. However, they weren't allowed to publicly show the photos, so age-old concept images will have to do…

Deal alert: LTE-capable Motorola Luge for $50 with Verizon prepaid

Motorola LugeForget the Moto E or confusingly numerous Moto G variants. The Luge is, despite its awkward name, by far the most appealing low-cost member of Motorola's current Android roster.

Typically available for $80 contract-free, the LTE-enabled mid-range 4.3 incher has been dropped to $50 on Best Buy. Now, sure, a $30 discount may feel insignificant, but the thing is…

Did Samsung find a way to preemptively detect strokes?

Obviously, you're aware that strokes are a huge problem, afflicting 15 million people every year. And it's even more of a problem because early warning signs are so difficult to detect. So it's great news that a group of Samsung engineers have decided to do something about it by enabling a phone or tablet to warn its user of an impending stroke.

How to change your geolocation online

Geolocation

No matter what you do on the Internet, where you go or how you protect yourself, there's always a way resourceful individuals can find your IP address and gain access to very personal information, such as where you live.

Similar to how your home has an address, every time your computer or Internet-ready device connects to the Internet, it's assigned an IP address. If known, this address can be used to find many things, like where you live, what sites you frequent and even your living habits depending on when and how you access the Internet.

The good news is that there are ways to hide your IP address as well as change your geolocation data.

What is Geolocation and the Data Associated With It?

If you didn't already know, web browsers like Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer include geolocation services on the backend. It works similar to GPS or geolocation on your mobile device. It identifies your local area either through your active Wi-Fi connection, IP address or network location. Once it finds this information and stores it successfully, it can be used in a number of different ways.

For example, every time you post a status update on Facebook or Twitter and it includes your location, the browser was…

Save the date: Samsung Galaxy S6's coming out party scheduled for March 2

Samsung Galaxy A7It's odd, but amidst the deluge of Samsung Galaxy S6-centric reports hanging about today's mobile décor, no official announcement date managed to slip through. Not yet, that is, and not a precise one, as a ballpark has been easy to guess for a while now.

Interestingly enough, Sammy isn't looking to win any early bird MWC attendee war against HTC, with the S6…
