Sometimes, smartphone upgrades and accessories are just plain strange. Though you may be interested in hard cases that protect your phone from damage should you drop it, others are more interested in blinging-out their phone in every way possible. If you are considering which accessories are worth your money, savvy buyers beware — as these investments hardly make the purchase worthwhile.

The Cell-Mate

Perhaps your cell phone doesn't have a hands-free headset just yet. Maybe you can't use an in-dash system in the car. If that's the case, The Cell-Mate works well. This headband and attachment device holds your cell right to your ear so you don't need to use your hands.

Though it looks comfortable, you can customize it to fit nearly any phone, even your Droid phones. Of course, this is a good option if you want to keep your bangs out of your eyes and your hands on the wheel as you drive. For most people, that may not be a real benefit, though.


The Tough and Smart Metal Protector

Called an urban-wild design, the Tough and Smart Metal Protector must be a good buy. After all, it clips right to your belt loop and hangs at pocket height. Slip your cell inside it and it's along for the ride. This metal device doesn't have any special features, expect to give you a quick draw opportunity when the cell does ring.
